I received an ARC of this book from both NetGalley and Orbit Books in exchange for my honest review.

For the Wolf was my favorite read of 2021, so I had high hopes for For The Throne. I wasn't disappointed.

I will admit, I wasn't a fan of Neve in FTW, and even through the first half of FTT, I struggled to connect with her. But toward the end, I finally started to understand her more, and I really like the way Whitten crafted her: as a horribly broken individual who still, after everything, has a capacity for good. As the 3rd act wrapped up, I came to appreciate Neve, and felt a much stronger connection with her.

One of my favorite aspects of FTW was the relationship between Red and Neve, and that held true in FTT as well. Whitten did an excellent job painting them as reflections of one another. And of course, this book had the romance as well. I loved the page time Red and Eammon got (they're my favorites still), and enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Neve and Solmir. I do wish Solmir hadn't gotten so much hate from the other characters. If anything, he and Neve are equally guilty. But I loved the epilogue!

Whitten's beautiful, atmospheric writing captured me once more, and the epic finale was on the same level as FTW. If not better. I absolutely blazed through the last quarter of this book.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed FTT. I was hesitant at first, but the final act bumped up the rating. It was a fitting and satisfying end to the Wilderwood duology. I can't wait to see where Whitten goes next!

Fantastic conclusion to this duology. Neve must align herself with an enemy to ensure the kings are truly ended while trying not to lose herself in the process. The unlikely pair of Neve and Solmir come together to try to stop the kings while also becoming drawn to eachother. This story was dark and twisty and the writing was impeccable. I liked the deeper look into their characters throughout though heart wrenching at times. Will definitely read more by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for the chance to read this ARC. Tried to post review to GoodReads but unable to.

Hannah Whitten really has a way with writing! For the Throne picks up where For the Wolf left off. Red’s sister Neve, who I loved in book 1, is trapped in the Shadowlands, an inverted dark kingdom, with only a man who she thinks to be her enemy for comfort—only Solmir wants to end the Shadowlands and needs Neve’s help. Meanwhile Red will do anything to help save her sister. First, I loved getting more of Red and Eammon—their relationship is so good and full of passion, I was swooning all over for the broody Eammon and Red is just wonderful. She’s full of spark and tenacity and devotion to the people she loves. And I just love the complexity of Neve too. She so wants to be good while constantly struggling with the idea that she’s actually a villain. Plus I loved the budding trust with her and Solmir. I loved the gradual change in them and their dynamic. The magic in this book feels so unique too. I loved the power of sisters and self and fate and choices that fuels the story and it’s movement and I love the prose. This book isn’t necessarily bingeable—and not in a bad way. There are so many wonderful unique ideas and story pieces that it’s a lot to take in. It’s a beautiful story of sisterhood and choice and I really enjoyed the world that Hannah Whitten developed to make the story come alive. There were some bits of predictability and I think the ending was a little too pretty for some of the grit this book has, but that didn’t take away at all from the sweeping journey this book takes the reader on. I’d definitely recommend this fantasy read!

After "For the Wolf" ended, I had no idea where this story was going to go. Your basic little red riding hood tale was all wrapped up, and there were so many left open questions about Neve, the Shadowlands, and what came after Red's story.

I loved getting to really dive into Neve's story and find out what was going on on the other side. While "For the Wolf" is Red's story, "For the Throne" definitely belongs to Neve, and I loved every minute of it. The storytelling is so rich in this book, and even though it follows alternating POV's, we get to see how everything wraps up for every major character from both books in the duology.

Hannah Whitten has become a new instant purchase author for me, and I'm super excited for her next series!

For the Throne
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ HAPPY PUB DAY!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the sequel to For the Wolf!!! I was so glad that we got to experience more POV from Neve. This book really surprised me since I wasn’t a huge fan of For the Wolf.

This book has some amazing enemies to lovers banter, slow burn romance, and an ending that just fit so well to the entire theme of the book.

I loved the character development and grew so attached to each of the characters! A well done ending to this duology.

I struggled with the magic system a lot throughout these two books but the world building was absolutely fantastic!

For the Throne is the outstanding sequel to For the Wolf! I really enjoyed For the Wolf, but I have to say that For the Throne somehow got a tighter grip on my heart! Neve and Solmir are two morally gray characters who have made questionable decisions in the past. When they are unexpectedly bound together, they go on an epic journey for redemption to save the world as they know it. Yet in the worlds of the Wilderwood and the Shadowlands, magic always comes with a price. Neve and Solmir’s romance and quest is a twisted, dark journey with echoes of Hades and Persephone. Needless to say, I loved it! It was wonderful to see Red, Eammon, and the supporting cast again as well.

Hannah Whitten’s writing is lyrical and mesmerizing. Every sentence is filled with vivid descriptions that bring the scenes to life. For the Throne tackles redemption, what it means to be a monster, lovable villains, and the bond of sisterhood. Each careful detail of the book is stunning, from Solmir giving Neve his jacket to only calling her Neve when she is truly in danger. Deeply flawed though he may be, Solmir’s protective instincts and mysterious secrets make him serious book boyfriend material. And Neve is equally swoonworthy - always choosing to search for a way back to her sister and take on darkness so she can find the light.

For the Throne is a beautiful conclusion to the Wilderwood series, though I hope we see this world and characters again someday! I already can’t wait to reread it. Readers who enjoy epic sequels, great world-building, twisted magic, and spellbinding romance will love For the Throne! For the Throne releases June 7, 2022. Thank you to Hannah Whitten, Orbit Books, and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

For publisher: My review will be posted on Instagram, Goodreads, Amazon, Storygraph, Wordpress blog, and Barnes & Noble etc

When I read the first book in the duology, For the Wolf, I was absolutely blown away by the atmospheric beauty of the Wilderwood. I was worried that For the Throne wouldn’t live up to my high expectations. It turns out that I didn’t need to worry because it took my feelings for the first one and amplified my feelings by ten. In other words, I loved every minute of For the Throne.

Every bit as elegantly written, For the Throne is a work of atmospheric beauty that I could not put down. I was so excited to see the conclusion of Red and Neve’s stories as they find a way to save the world from a terrible future. I enjoyed watching Red and Neve explore the love they had for one another and the people who became an important part of their individual journeys.

One of the only complaints I had with For the Wolf was that I didn’t understand Neve’s decisions. While I can honestly say that I still don’t agree with her decisions, For the Throne helped me understand her character so much more that it at least made her decisions in the first book make more sense. I ended up really appreciating how much she developed as she contemplated her humanity.

I was thankful that this book also gave me a dose of Eammon. I loved him in the first book, and I loved him in this one. That’s all I really need to say in the matter.

A huge thank you to Netgalley and Orbit Books for the absolute honor of reading this book in exchange for my honest review.

5/5 stars. Even more stars if I could!

Thank you Orbit Books and NetGalley for this Arc.

This was a spectacular sequel to For the Wolf! The story begins with Neve who is with Solmir searching for her sister. One of the most creative approaches in this novel is the different points of view narrating the story. I really enjoyed how the author of the Wilderwood novels creates these dark, lush forest scenes with their word choice. I also was mesmerized by the magic rules within the story and how beautifully dark the tone and imagery was while reading.

I enjoyed both Red and Eammon and Neve and Solmir's relationship and interactions throughout the Shadowlands. The story from the beginning of the book ,with the fantastic dedication, to the end was enchanting. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a dark, adult fantasy series.

4.5/5 Stars!

I was surprised by how much I loved the first book in this series, and was excited to get my hands on this one. I didn't like this quite as much as the first, though I thought it was just as well-written. I just didn't get on with the shadowlands/underworld setting as much as I did with the Wilderwood of the first book, and I didn't connect with Neve as much as I did with Red. This did alternate perspectives between Red and Neve, but I wanted more Red (just my personal bias). This is a dark fantasy so content warning for some death and some pretty intense magic stuff. Overall, this is a solid dark fantasy about the love between two sisters and the way that love shapes the world.

The way Hannah created the magic system in FOR THE WOLF and FOR THE THRONE was amazing. There was enough detail to really imagine what Red and Neve were experiencing without making it feel overwhelming. Their personal character traits really fit well with their magical ones as well.

I pretty much will read almost any fantasy book with an enemies-to-lovers trope and enjoy it. However, it was hard for me to relate to Neve. A lot of what I felt I liked about her character were parts that I had to pull from FOR THE WOLF. For me, it was tough to get into her POV chapters, which were most of the book.

When in Red’s POV, I flew through reading. Maybe it was the comfort of knowing her and her character arc, or maybe it’s just how I relate to the twins differently.

Hannah also added a POV for Raffe, I think to get closer to the Kayu storyline, which I felt was odd, and added something that didn’t fit into FOR THE WOLF at all. Part of me wondered why some of these details weren’t there and if they filled some plot hole in some way. It felt forced, and I wasn’t a fan.

Overall, a book needs two things for my enjoyment, magic & love. This book has both, and so I enjoyed it. However, I was a bigger fan of FOR THE WOLF with Red & Eammon’s storyline than FOR THE THRONE with Neve and Solmir’s.

I got this eARC from NetGalley. Thank you to Orbit Books and Hannah Whitten for allowing me to read and review FOR THE THRONE before its release.

An outstanding sequel to an already wonderful novel! I loved For the Wolf, and For the Throne had me just as enthralled. The character development and progression had me consistently yearning for more and I look forward to Hannah Witten's next adventure. Her writing continues to grow and For the Throne showed her growth as an author and universe creator so well. I would recommend these novels if you liked The Winternight Trilogy!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

I read the first one last month because I had heard good things about this series. So when I was approved for an ARC of this one, I was excited to dive into the world of Wilderwood!

I really loved the premise and atmospheric idea of the duology, but honestly did not enjoy the first one. (You can see my full review here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53418394)

However, I was really hoping for an improvement in the characterization in the second novel. I actually did think this one was a bit better as it was focused around Neve who was a bit more complex. However, I still did not outright love this book and I honestly could have skipped it.

I just think that even though the premise of the story was good, it didn’t suck me in enough to really have any attachment to any of the characters. It just wasn’t for me.

I love a good character driven book where I’m left wondering what the characters are up to long after I’ve finished the book, and I just didn’t get that from this one.

Really enjoyed this continuation of FOR THE WOLF. I did need to go back and freshen up some details from the first book, but I appreciated that the author did not make me go through a ton of “remember when I told you this”, so I didn’t mind. I did find Raffe’s chapters a little harder to buy into for some reason, but loved getting to see the next part of the story play out for Red and Neve. I will certainly recommend this book to others.

This book was absolutely amazing. I believe this book was better than For the Wolf, which is one of my favorite reads. Hannah Whitten is amazing with story-telling and world-building. I was definitely impressed with how well this plot was developed. Neve's relationship with Solmir is intriguing and engaging. I believe Neve was better represented here than in For the Wolf. The only reason I rated this a 4 out of 5 was because I believe that the book could have been shorter. This is such a beautifully dark book that will be sure to capture readers.

I loved this book and didn't want it to end! The story was beautiful and I loved that we saw more of Neve in this book. The world-building is great I couldn't recommend this book more!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC I. Exchange for my honest review.

I was so excited for this book, because I enjoyed the first one so much. The atmosphere and darkness these books exude just makes me LOVE them.

This book was good, but not great. It wasn't exactly the sequel I was hoping for, but I still enjoyed it.

3.5/5 ⭐

*Thank you so much to NetGalley and Orbit Books for an eARC !!

For the Throne is the fantastic conclusion to the Wilderwood Duology. For the Wolf is one of my favorite reads of 2021 and Hannah Whitten does NOT disappoint with this sequel!!

Whitten’s writing is nothing short of lyrical, dark and so so stunning. I love her characters and the world she’s built. It’s a slow burn but the last 20% had me in a chokehold. I could not put it down! She’s definitely an auto but author for me.

I loved, loved, loved this book and duology. I can't wait to add the physical copy to my shelf.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting multiple povs. It was dark, but I enjoy dark fantasy and this is definitely a duology I will be recommending to friends and fellow fantasy lovers.

You know a book is going to be good when the dedication makes you tear up. I almost feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief now that I know what has come to pass in The Wilderwood.

It feels like a millennium has passed since I finished For the Wolf, one of my favorite reads of 2021, and I’ve been so anxious to find out what happens next in the lives of Neve, Red, Eammon, and the rest of the gang. I’ve been anticipating this sequel so much that when I was approved for the ARC, I didn’t even think to do a reread of the first book before diving right into this the second I received it. I had forgotten way more than I expected! Oops. I truly thought that my memory would be perfect and I’d recall everything that transpired at the beginning of the story. So much for that.

Due to the nature of the first book’s ending, this one picked up right where the last left off. If my memory had served me better, this wouldn’t have been an issue whatsoever. Sadly, because I was struggling to remember the more complex details, I had a tough time getting into the opening chapters. I just couldn’t fully grasp the importance of some of the themes. This is entirely my own fault and does not take away from the utter masterpiece this book is. But, it does help me to state that this duology is best when binged!

The further I read, the more that I was able to recall character names, events that occurred, and why certain plot points were important. This helped me to really immerse myself in the story once I was about 15% of the way in and from there, it was smooth sailing. The chapters are relatively long, which is typically not my favorite, but because of the nature of the story, I was never bored or impatient to reach the end. Each moment held such weight and there were so many intricacies within the magic system that absolutely fascinated me.

I really have to applaud Hannah’s ingenuity when it comes to the magic system for these books. I’ve never in my life read a book where someone could be wolf, wood, and (in)human – and while I’ve seen my fair share of fantasy novels with shadow magic, the way that Neve and Solmir control it was unlike anything I’ve witnessed before. It makes this duology stand out among the other fantasies. I found myself on the edge of my seat multiple times, waiting to see what might happen next, thinking that I had something figured out, and then being pleasantly surprised when it didn’t go the way I expected!

And my anticipation went beyond the magic. These characters are phenomenal. I think that anyone can relate with at least someone in these books. While Neve wasn’t someone who I related with as much (I found myself much more drawn to Red), I still understood the darker parts of her and some of the challenges she faced. Just like Red, she’s a really powerful character, so there’s certainly no lack of “strong female leads” in these books, and I love every second of it. Their strength doesn’t just lie in their ability to battle or wield magic, but also in their heart and the choices they make to sacrifice for their loved ones.

The ending. Oh. My. Gosh.

Okay, that’s not all I have to say, but it could be. The final moments had my heart racing! I think I even began to sweat a little bit. So much happened and I was beyond surprised with how the story wrapped up – in the best way possible. No spoilers here, I’m just going to say that you’ll love it.

I can officially say, without a doubt, that Hannah is now one of my auto-read/buy authors. I’m hooked. I was hooked after For the Wolf, but now that I’ve read For the Throne, there’s not even a drop of doubt in my mind that she’s a favorite. I love the dark, gritty nature of these books and how they’re so beautifully woven with romance, heart, and depth. I can’t wait for whatever comes next (and I want a spin-off about Arick – please and thanks).

This duology is a dark fairytale for anyone who wanted a little more eldritch horror in their Disney princess movies. I’m slowly savoring THRONE and adoring the Hades & Persephone vibes from Solmir & Neve, while every scene with Red & Eammon makes my heart flutter.
