The Seductress Trap is an lgbtq rom com.
The premise is that a gay woman, Angel, is interested in straight women as a way to avoid being hurt.
She seduces a woman with a very jealous fiancee who then creates a rather twisted plan for revenge.
Romance blooms in the end.
I wasn't crazy about this. Ok. The plot was convoluted and the characters weren't well developed.
That said, I am always glad to see another book about gay women
Angel lost her wife several years ago and she has been able to keep it together by having no strings relationships with straight women. Seducing them is a game and she has done very well in her game. That is until she seduces a woman who is engaged to Mike who finds out and is furious. Mike talks to his friend Chris who he wants to get his fiance back and teach Angel a lesson.
What Mike nor Chris expect is that Angel and Chris will connect and possibly Angel will change her no string policy.
I would recommend.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novel, particularly due to the amazing chemistry between Angel and Chris. I will admit that I really liked the first part of the novel but then it felt as though it lost traction and direction.
I actually quite enjoyed the weird revenge-plot storyline, but in the end I felt really badly for Angel and although the author sets us up to dislike her as she's a 'womaniser', I felt sad at how she was treated by the majority of the cast. She got a lot of flak and I couldn't quite understand why. It was Addie's decision and it takes two to tangle. Mike was such a big baby and I really disliked the big chunk of the novel that he featured in. He was aggressive and I would've loved for him to have been taken down a peg or two by the end of the novel. (This part of it remained unresolved for me to be honest!) The way Chris handled her friendship with Mike and relationship with Angel irked me, but I still enjoyed the novel overall.
All in all a good debut and I'll definitely be reading what Jac Sherry releases next.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bella Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't take this book too seriously, instead enjoyed the ride of the characters, the storyline, and the fun. I enjoyed it, but I can see that if you took the whole story too seriously, you couldn't like the characters, or find it a relatable read at all. This was a great rom-com, light, plenty of fun. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Maybe I should give a disclaimer for this review. I read this book at a bad time and it likely has affected my enjoyment of it. As some of you know I had to let go of my beloved cat a couple of days ago. Working fulltime from home for almost two years now means that I saw my furry friend 24/7 and he was very big on cuddling, so I was (and still am) extremely sad over losing him. That said, I’ll do my best to give an honest and fair review and actually this book provided a good distraction. It was a light and easy light read, and I found the writing style very appealing. The downside of the book for me was that I could not connect with the characters in the book.
This book has serious over the top characters and some humor. Humor in books is a hit or miss for me and when I read some early reviews I expected the combination of humor with the over the top characters to be a miss, but surprisingly, I enjoyed most of the light humor in this book, but I struggled with the over the top characters.
Flaws can make characters real and endearing, but in this book, it appeared to have the opposite effect for me. Especially their reasoning did not make any sense to me.
To give an idea about strange decision making, let’s talk about the plot of the book. There is the lesbian seductress, Angel, who only seduces straight women that are preferably in a relationship. She seduces Maddie, Mike’s fiancé. In reaction to this, Mike and his best friend and business partner Chris come up with a plan for Chris to seduce the seductress. You would think this is about revenge, but it is not, it is all about distracting Angel, so she loses interest in Maddie and then Maddie will -of course- automatically run back to Mike. This was the first head scratching moment for me. Why would she run back to him, and why this elaborate trap instead of wooing Maddie to get her back?
Then there is Mike himself, and I know I’m not the only one here, but what an asshole. One moment he’s sobbing like a baby and the other moment the police is called because he’s ready to assault someone. A bad guy in a book is ok, but Chris, Maddie and Lucy were constantly defending him, saying he’s all talk but doesn’t really do anything, but why then do they run to the scene every time he has a temper to calm him down? Honestly, what do they see in this guy? And how can I like them if they like Mike?
Clearly, several characters start out with questionable character traits and they do have some character development, but it wasn’t always convincing.
This book wasn’t the best match for me, and this also depends on my reading preferences and the timing of reading it. Especially the over the top characters is not something I easily like, so perhaps others will like this better. I did enjoy the quality writing and the flow of this book (especially considering this is a debut) and I’m curious to see what Sherry will write in the future.

Oh, I loved Chris's character. I wish I was as cool as her. Angel's character, on the other hand, felt like such a predatory creep. I couldn't get over it after the opening scene. Mike definitely got the bleep end of the stick. This plot was just so messed up on so many levels...which made for a pretty interesting read. There were moments where I was excited to find out what happened next, so overall I enjoyed the read.
Angel sleeps with straight women as a way to keep her heart protected. She ends of sleeping with Mike's fiance and a plan to have Chris, Mike's best friend and a lesbian seduce Angel so that Amber runs back to Mike is hatched. Chris pretends to be straight but soon finds herself falling for Angel and doesn't know how to come clean without losing her.
I will look for future books from this author. I think she shows a lot of promise. There were certainly flaws in this story but the potential is there for Jac Sherry to be a very good romcom writer. I didn't love how Angel used straight women to take care of her needs while not thinking about how her actions affected others. And I didn't like the plan to get revenge on Angel by having Chris pose as a straight woman and how Chris didn't come clean sooner. The two women fell hard really fast and there wasn't enough build up. And then there's Mike, who was a complete stereotype of the jealous, obnoxious male. He was difficult to sympathize with. I probably would have slept with Angel too, if Mike was my boyfriend.
I actually liked both lead characters, even though I didn't love some of their behavior. They were both intelligent women who worked hard and were clearly missing something in their lives that they found in each other. And Elizabeth, the wedding planner, who came in near the end and was like an all-knowing Wonder Woman, intrigues me. Feels like we haven't seen the last of her. All in all this is a promising debut. Some of it didn't work for me but that doesn't mean it won't be exactly the read you're looking for.
A fun, light hearted read with relatively angst free romance and wacky side characters.
Book opens with Angel Lux on the prowl in a bar. She is unabashedly committed to her mission and set her sights on someone who would not only land her in a hot mess, but be the cause for her heart to be played instead.
Chris is skilled; in the literal carpentry and working tools sense. She has no business in sexy, impractical clothes and killer heels that could seriously maim her. Coerced by her best friend Mike and his sister to entrap the seductress who enticed Mike’s fiancé, she managed to trap Angel but lost her heart in the process.
The synopsis was a draw and the book was pretty hilarious (I can still remember some of the conversations and laughter inducing moments)! Being a big fan of romance, if more loving was written in the pages and their connection given more time to bloom, it’ll be a truly neat and balanced debut book.
I just reviewed The Seductress Trap by Jac Sherry. Thank you NetGalley and Bella Books for the ARC.
A great rom-com, The Seductress Trap was so much fun to read. I highly recommend this and as it's the first book I have read by this author - I cannot wait to read more in the future! Great job!!
𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘁.
This is a rom-com with some flaws but I also think it's quite entertaining if you don't take it too seriously. The plot is a little crazy and the side characters are cartoonish. There is no romantic build up before the main characters get some action and I'm not sold on the love they claim to have for each other at the end. But the story is lighthearted and interesting enough that I wanted to finish it.
Angel is a womaniser with a penchant for seducing straight women because it's easy to keep the dynamics casual with them and to me, that's a little warped, no matter what reason she has for doing it. She doesn't care if the women are available or not even though she does care if somebody is hurt in the process. But she's a genuine character and I like her. Chris finds herself embroiled in a middle of a revenge plot to seduce Angel after Angel's rendezvous with Chris' best friend's fianceé is exposed. Chris is a little harder to like even though she's the least complicated character. There's a lot of half truths coming from her to Angel and to Chris and she doesn't seem to feel bad about any of it until she's exposed.
When I say the side characters are cartoonish, I have two of them in mind. Mike, who is Chris' best friend, is like the cartoon villian whom we already know is going to be the largest obstacle in Angel and Chris' blossoming relationship. And Elizabeth, who is the wedding officiant, is like a cartoon hero who appears out of nowhere to save the day.
This is a great debut by this author, so much so that it’s rather hard to believe this is a debut novel in terms of writing style.
Let me start with the things I didn’t like. Mike, he’s an awful character and doesn’t deserve redemption. He’s a huge dude and he has an awful temper that easily ignites and almost leads to violence a couple of times. He’s ridiculous. And I don’t like the trap, basically how Angel and Chris get together. I think Chris should have been honest sooner. Also, the womaniser act by Angel isn’t that believable when you get to know her and how she interacts with Chris. Oh and the focus on Chris’s bottom, please stop it.
On to the things I do like. The writing style, it’s great, the story flows easily. There is humor in this story and it’s such a nice and light read. And I do like these characters, flaws and all. A chef and a carpenter, great combination. And I am very interested in the British woman, the wedding officiant, Elizabeth Bentley. She comes into this book very late but she leaves a mark. I like how Angel and Chris get to know each other by working together and keeping it platonic. For as long as they can manage at least.
Overall great debut, with some issues, but in the end very enjoyable read.
Angel only seduces straight women to avoid any long term attachments. Her heart was shattered when she lost the love of her life a few years back. Chris has trust issues stemming from the revolving door on her mother’s boyfriends. This keeps Chris from giving her heart away.
The plot involves Chris pretending to be straight to get Angel’s attention away from her best friend Mike’s fiancé. As you can imagine all sorts of trouble ensues but in a light and entertaining way, for the most part.
Chris, Angel and the secondary characters are diverse and quirky except for Mike who comes across as thuggish at times. His hostility towards Angel is over the top in some incidences and physically threatening in others. This removed the fourth star in my rating, unfortunately.
The dialogue has humorous moments and moves the story along at a pleasant pace. If there was one character whom I would like to know more about, it would be Ms Elizabeth Bentley. She comes into the last quarter of the novel like a stormtrooper with attitude. Her backstory would make a great novella.
I received an advance review copy for free from Bella Books and NetGalley. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is such a light read and honestly there's a lot of humor in it which I loved. I don't think i disliked any character, that in itself is a miracle. I was interested in Elizabeth I don't know if the author is planning to make something for her in the future or this was just there as dialogue but I felt like a hint that she and the happy couple will be back in another book. I won't be against it since Elizabeth was great i'd like to know more about her. Moreover, I really liked the fact that the author did not make all characters gay as many books do ( she, her friends, her neighbors, her co-workers... the guy who's car broke in the meddle of nowhere) and that's so disconnected from the reality, leading the story to balance quite nicely IMO.
Highly recommended. that's for the author and her team for the trust in exchange of honest opinion.
A cute cover draws your attention to this new romance. Angel Lux doesn't want a relationship. Instead she finds it easy to seduce straight women who want to experiment. Her latest conquest happens to have a very large fiancé, Mike. His partner in a construction business is Chris Karner. Mike convinces Chris to pose as straight to attract Angel drawing her attention from his future wife. Of course things go sideways.
This is light reading with some funny moments. I actually liked Angel more than Chris because she never was deceptive in what she was doing. Truthfully, the revenge plot didn't make a lot of sense to me. It seems silly, when Mike should have been either dealing with his cheating fiancé or wooing her back. I did like the honest conversations when Angel opens up to Chris about her past and plans for her restaurant. I didn't feel like I got to know Chris very much other than she's been lifelong best friend of the crazy Mike. I was also confused by Elizabeth the wedding officiant. I can see her being interested in using Angel's restaurant for future events but didn't understand her interest in getting Angel and Christ together.
I will look for future books by the author. This one just had some plot points that didn't entirely work for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Bella Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
