Charlotte Barnes' "The Break Up" is such a fun and surprisingly thoughtful read! It takes the classic romantic comedy vibe and gives it a twist. Instead of diving into the usual post-breakup sadness, we follow Edi as she takes a "break" from her long-term relationship with her fiancé, Rowan. This unique setup leads to a journey of self-discovery that’s both heartwarming and super funny.

Edi’s transformation is truly inspiring! She starts off as a bit unsure and passive but ends up embracing her own wants and needs. You can’t help but cheer her on as she navigates the dating scene, explores her sexuality, and learns to prioritize her own happiness.

And let me tell you, Edi’s friends are absolute treasures! Their unwavering support, hilarious banter, and reality checks make the journey even more enjoyable. The strong female friendships really shine in this story.

Barnes does a fantastic job of handling Edi’s exploration of her sexuality with sensitivity and realism. It’s so refreshing to see a character work through these questions in a way that feels genuine and relatable.

The author has a talent for witty observations and comedic moments that will keep you laughing! The humor is seamlessly woven into the story, giving you plenty of laugh-out-loud scenes.

Now, while Rowan’s actions definitely spark Edi’s growth, I felt he could be a bit one-dimensional at times. Also, the middle part of the book loses a little momentum, but don’t worry—it picks up again as Edi’s journey becomes clearer.

Overall, "The Break Up" is a charming and uplifting read that will resonate with anyone who has ever questioned their path in love or life. It's a sweet reminder that sometimes, ending one chapter can lead to an exciting new adventure. I absolutely recommend it to fans of romantic comedies looking for a story with depth, humor, and a wonderful dose of female empowerment!

My expectations for this book were high as the blurb sounded interesting but unfortunately this book was not for me and I ended up not finishing it at 30%

Sadly, it was a DNF, I'll probably try to get through it at a later time but it's going to be a long time from now

The premise was really good but I just didn't like the characters nor the writing, they annoyed me greatly. It is such a shame because I really wanted to love this book and I tried reading it several times hoping it wasn't just the right time, but it seems it just wasn't the right book for me

After trying to read it over 10 times and always DNFing I think is safe to review it for now, if I ever end up picking the book again and finishing it I'll change my review

I really didn't get on with this book. I found the characters underdeveloped and kind of annoying. There was so much potential with the characters and plot but it didn't come through. I liked the writing used and thought it was clear and there were some interesting sections but i feel like the quality of the writing and the characters didn't match up. I would try another book by this author as there were some good elements in this.

I received this book in exchange for a honest review.

I really enjoyed this, it was a light quick read. The dynamic of the FMC girl group were fun and often hilarious. The MMC was a bit of a douche but it made a good story. The ending was perfect and I wouldn’t mind reading a few more books from the other girls in the group, their characters were great.

An engaging story that sometimes lacked in tone/voice. I would have loved to see more authorial style shine through!

I was expecting a sapphic rom com from the marketing of this book and unfortunately this wasn't that

Could not really get into it. The plot was not the issue but rather the style of writing for me. | DNF

The blurb of the book sounded good and interesting but it was quite disappointing. The book was confusing with the way the conversation switches between Edi and her friends and the characters are all annoying. The story itself is slow and drawn out.

Edi and Rowan have been childhood sweethearts and she is ecstatic when he proposes but is shocked shortly afterwards when Rowan suggests that they start seeing other people for a short time just so they can find out "if they are missing anything" before settling down.

Edi reluctantly agrees and an agreement is set up on what is acceptable but when she meets Fred, her own thoughts about the relationship are thrown into confusion.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC for this book in exchange of my honest review.

Sadly I think this book was a miss for me. I was extremely interested in the blurb but somehow it didn't delivered what I was expecting.

DNFed at about 20%. The story is really dragging, and I'm only getting more and more frustrated with the main couple. I find the characters annoying and I don't think that's something that will change.

I appreciated how the affection amongst friends underlined the significance of self-love and self-worth. I enjoyed the writing style, and I really appreciated the small prior sections that offered the reader extra information.

so I had the audiobook for this one. and I have to say, unfortunately I dropped the book, only duo to the narrator. no emotions or voice acting for male and female characters what so ever! I had to wait for the he or she pronouns to find out who is who or who's talking. I couldn't understand when characters were sad, happy, excited, etc...

Thanks to NetGally for providing my copy.

I just finished reading The Break Up by Charlotte Barnes and I must say, it's an incredible story of self-discovery. Edi Parcell is in a long-term relationship with her childhood sweetheart when he suggests taking a three-month break to date other people. This proposal takes Edi by surprise and throws her back into the dating game.

The book follows Edi's journey as she navigates the dating scene and discovers what she really wants in life and love. From hilarious first dates to sweet meet-cutes, the book is filled with entertaining and relatable experiences. Edi's best friends provide comedic relief and support as she explores her options and finds herself.

Charlotte Barnes did a great job of capturing the essence of self-discovery and the difficulties of navigating love. I found myself rooting for Edi and her happiness throughout the book. The ending was a perfect mix of closure and open-endedness, leaving room for readers to imagine Edi's future.

Overall, I highly recommend The Break Up to anyone who enjoys a good romance novel with a twist. The story is heartwarming, relatable, and a perfect escape for anyone who wants to be swept up in a feel-good tale of self-discovery.

Very disappointed that this was a straight romance when the cover is marketed as a sapphic one. Yes there is a sapphic romance in it but it's not the main plot... Also the transphobic comment ? No. I didn't finish it.
