I thought that this book was good for the right person.
The characters were fun and loveable which was the main reason I kept reading. I found it to be funny, but slightly overdone that it became un-believable. I don't think anyone realistically thinks in the same way the MC did in this book.

I also found the title to be misleading.

This is not one I'd recommend to my bookshop simply because it is not the right market for the Uni bookshop.

Such a lovely book. The story and the main characters were a treat and I just can’t wait to read more from this author. I recommend it to everyone who likes a good book and a fun story.

I expected a romance based on the title and the cover but instead got a story about a girl that had so many boyfriends she wonders if she’s allergic to men.

Lucy Callaghan is a struggling actress, working part-time as a fairytale princess for children's birthday parties. In a rush to get to a job, she takes a dare from a perfect stranger to ride a bike across the Waterloo Bridge during a traffic jam wearing her Frozen Elsa costume. But then she inevitably gets hit by a bus. Weeks later, she wakes up from her coma with no memory of over ten years of her life. As her parents and her four sisters come together to help her recover her memory, her cringeworthy past comes to light. Always the wild child of the family, she now looks at her life in a different light and struggles to find anything good that's she's done.
I love the close relationship of the sisters, especially when they come together to live like when she was a teenager to spark her memory. Lucy's humor, at times hilarious, other times crude and annoying, kept her going and made the story less depressing. Although I thought it was funny, I really disliked the main character Lucy. I can't imagine being part of her family and taking her anywhere in public!

This book was a great escape from reality! I loved the characters and I found the main character extremely funny. I love the beginning too! It reminded me a lot of my own 18th birthday.

Definitely would recommend!

I was so surprised when I learned that this was book FIVE in a series! Rest assured, this reads almost like a stand alone.

Let me set the stage for you:
A starving artist (actress)
An upcoming woodstock-ish 30th birthday bash
Getting run over by a bus
Waking up thinking you’re 17

Without the characters, there is no story here. Lucy is about to turn 30 and is the youngest of five girls. The fact that their father lived in a house with six women is hilarious all in itself! Poor guy! When Lucy wakes up after suffering a brain injury after she tried to take on a bus, she is overwhelmed with having lost more than a decade of her life.

I loved the sister’s interactions. Their willingness to drop absolutely everything to help Lucy travel down memory lane looking for that one thing that will trigger the flood of memories and experiences to come back. The pain the sister’s feel for Lucy is tangible.

While I thought the book was light hearted, and funny there were only a few places where I would say it was laugh out loud funny. The humor lands more in the off the wall, absurdity of Lucy’s character. She definitely was living her best life!

The plot itself was well paced and kept to the pace of Lucy’s crazy lifestyle. I enjoyed traipsing through her past with her and her sisters as they revisited and relived all that was important to her. Meeting several of the many people she has slept away her 20s with was at times pretty uncomfortable for everyone, adding to the humor.

I love the importance of family, accepting everyone without judgment, and ultimately being true to yourself and not pretending to be anyone other than yourself. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a fun and funny story about a crazy off the wall family, you will definitely enjoy this one.

After an accident 30 year old Lucy wakes up with no memory of her life since she was 17. With the aid of her sisters and friends she tries to patch up her missing memories and to find a mysterious Oscar.
To be honest I don't think that I would have liked Lucy, although if I was nearer 30 maybe I would have appreciated her more then. Grown up Lucy is very promiscuous and always speaks her mind, something that the younger version struggles to understand how she turned out that way. It is interesting to see how she tries to recover those memories, plus how much her real friends appreciate her. This gradually changed how I saw her and I began to appreciate her true character and changed my review score to a 5*. So not a true laugh a minute romcom but a deeper story about love, friendship and a reminder not to take people at face value.
I received an advance copy of the book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

I went in blind, the title is what intrigued me and I can't wait for more readers to discover this book. Wow! What an experience!

This was my first book by this author and I was disappointed. The main character was not likeable to me and made it very difficult tu get invested. I did not complete this book, but does to the end. It was just too much chaos and thigh it claimed to be funny, I didn't find it so.

Am I Allergic to Men is a good fun. But not entirely rom-com material like the blurb or title might suggest.
Like I mentioned this was fun and I enjoyed aspects of the story, it had a good hook.
Lucy was hit or miss for me because of her personality.
The writing was very good, and I might want to give the rest of the books a try.
The humor was great and I enjoyed that aspect.
Overall this would have benefited form a different cover because I do feel like a lot of people will be going into this thinking it’s a romcom.

Ugh, that is the full review for this one. The writing was horrible and the story was crap. I really need to stop grabbing books because of titles.

I would say that the cover and title of the book do not fit the story. THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE BOOK!
If there was humor, I didn't recognize it and it seemed dry to me. Just not my kind of humor.

I would say she isn't allergic to men she's just trying to be herself and find herself again. Being a free spirit, free bird. At one point I find the main character seeking attention and just being rude. I didn't connect with her at all. I know it's difficult when you don't remember anything about yourself, but no, just no ...
The dialogue was also written very weird at times that it was difficult to know who was talking if there was more than one person around.

I hadn't realised it was the last book in a series, and hadn't read the previous books so felt I was missing quite a bit of the back story.

Not going to lie … I read the first chapter and hated it. I ended up putting the book down and almost had my first DNF… Then I got stuck in isolation 😷 so figured I’d give it another shot - and I’m so glad I did! This is why I always give books the benefit of the doubt!

This ended up being super funny and somewhat wholesome (if you can consider sexual positivity and free spirited choices wholesome). As someone with three sisters, I know the bond between siblings and the things I would do for them (and all the things we all continue to over share with each other). At 30 myself I would confidently say that my sisters are my best friends ,and I’m sure they say the same- so I loved seeing those bonds translated to the page!

The title of this book is misleading. Almost none of the plot is spent talking about being “allergic to men” … matter of fact most of it is spent talking about having plenty of men (and women) with many great relationships that came out of them albeit short lived.

I loved Lucy’s humour. Every time she made a little joke or comment I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Her humour reminded me a lot of Fleabag, so if you enjoyed that then you would love this!

It was nice reading about a MC who might not have had life figured out fully but was doing their best and, as quoted in the book, “living their best life”. Her zest for life was intoxicating. She had no shame, and while it may seem like she was all onboard the hot mess express, we slowly see that she leaves positive impacts everywhere she goes. It was a good reminder to have fun and carpe diem.

Had the book ended on the final chapter I would have been pleased. The addition of the epilogue kind of killed it for me. There’s mention of Beyoncé and JayZ and it made no sense, I don’t think the story needed it. But it was nice to see Lucy still out there thriving!

After a rocky start, I still give this 4 ⭐️

The description and title of this book bear no resemblance to the book itself.
Lucy has lost her memory from a bike/bus accident and she and her four sisters are trying to piece it back together by tracking down her numerous exes.
It's billed as being so funny that my abs will hurt from laughing. Nope.
Lucy is NOT trying to cure her singledom. She's quite satisfied with her free spirit lifestyle.
She's not allergic to men, she's allergic to any sort of relationship or commitment.
On the one hand, it's positive that Lucy is so confident in herself that she unabashedly seeks out pleasure.
On the other hand, it's sort of sad that she unabashedly seeks out pleasure without any thought to consequence.

I'm usually a bit hesitant to pick up a book from a series, when I haven't read the previous parts. The title and the blurb of Am I Allergic to Men got me curious, however. So, although I hadn't read the stories of the other Callaghan Sisters, I dove into the story of the youngest one: Lucy.
And although it was a nice concept: a girl who lost her memory of the last ten years of her life, the story is okay-ish. It is a bit funny ,but not like don't-read-on-or-you'll-pee-in-your-pants kind of funny. And sometimes it is all a bit over the top. When we follow Lucy trying to retrace her life, we meet some interesting characters. But the whole story just kind of flowed from one event to the other. There was no rapid river, no breathtaking view, no big waterfall, if you catch my drift... So yeah, likeable but not totally awesome. I think I'll pass on the other sisters' stories, although the titles are very promising.
In all, three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Am I Allergic to Men is Lucy Callaghans story. Lucy has an accident suffers amnesia leaving the family desperately trying to find a trigger to bring back her recent memories... who is this Lucy?... was this really her people are reminiscing about?... and will her memories ever return?

A great read, makes you laugh, smile, sad at times, a mix of emotions. I've read all the Callaghan sisters stories, all definite should reads if you haven't already. Each book could easily be read as a standalone book, but you'll be missing out if you don't read them all. Would be an interesting read if there was a book based on Mrs Callaghans story, seems their Mum would have a great story to tell.

This was a disappointing read for me, I haven't read the previous books about the other sisters but Lucy's story did not pull me. I wasn't even attached to her character or amused by it. Skipped through the chapters till the end just to know how it will end. The only thing that was lovely the strong relationship between the sisters and how they are always together to support one another no matter what.

I also thought it sounded super interesting and I was excited to read it. Unfortunately, that’s where it ended. From the first page I was frustrated with it. Lucy was ridiculous, even as an 18yo. I tried to cut her some slack but you can only do so much. Things were so all over the place throughout the book and there were times I was left confused by what is happening. The dialogue was also written very weird at times that it was difficult to know who was talking if there was more than one person around (like in the club in the beginning).

I’m sure there are a lot of people that won’t agree with me and will 100% love this book—and that’s great! It just wasn’t for me.

The only part I wasn't a huge fan of was how she got her memory back but overall I enjoyed it!
