Hanna's father has been convicted of beating his girl friend to death and setting her home on fire. Although he was a drunk, she cant imagine him doing this and she starts investigating the case again-she is a police officer. A case Hanna and her partner, Erik, are working on is the disappearance of Thomas and his 14 month old son. There are many characters and plots and subplots and at times it is hard to keep track of everyone.
I really have enjoyed this series so far. I honestly didn’t expect the ending of this one, or of The Night Singer. Lots of intense family crises and realistic scenes throughout this one. I could relate to Lykke’s disappointment in her family life, and I cheered for her near the end. Loved this one, just like the first.
I have just finished The Shadow Lily The Shadow Lily by Johanna Mo by Johanna Mo and have found that The Last Day was the final answer to Hanna Duncker's problem with her case against the killer of Thomas. It was not the answer to Hugo's being missing but they finally got a lead that found him. Lykke was Tomas's daughter from a previous arrangement and they had problems with his abandonment of her as a young girl. He was not ready to take her on at that time. Johanna takes her time to arrive at all the issues that she has for Hanna but she keeps the noir by letting her brother come into the picture at the end. This lets you know nothing of what happens but it is what happens in the end. I like the way Johanna treats people, with them being honest in haw they feel.
Thank you NetGalley for this book. This is a sequel to The Night Singer. Thomas and his son Hugo are missing. Thomas has recently lost his job, or has he. He’s involved in a smuggling ring, right? Hanna and Erick do their best to find Hugo after Thomas’ body is discovered. This is a well thought out book. In the background, is Hanna’s desire to find out if her father really was guilty of murder.
