Ok, I loved this one.
It was so fun and is inspired by the queen Agatha Christie and her classic mystery novels so obviously I had to check it out.
In relation to the mystery aspect, it's very much an average ya type mystery. It's not too dense and isn't very risqué. It's a cut and copy whodunit but it's also very enjoyable and keeps you wanting to know more.
The clues were there from the start if you know what to look for.
The characters could've been elaborated on because I kept forgetting which one of the girls was the blonde but it didn't hinder my enjoyment.
I hope there is a second installment!

I loved the cover, title, and concept of this book: a pair of teens, Alice and Iris, form an unlikely bond when the best friend of one of them is murdered. Together, they try and solve the mystery of who the killer is, as well as clear their friend Steve, who is a suspect. Quotes and references to Alice’s Agatha Christie novels add a nice layer to the story, although I think the novel’s length could have been cut. An appealing read for young adult and adult mystery readers. The storyline includes domestic abuse and suggestions at the end for how to get help for readers who may be in similar situations.

The Agathas is a cool thriller that gives credit to the OG of the genre, Agatha Christie. Two high school girls are thrown together for tutoring, but discover a common interest in solving crimes when one of the town's richest girls goes missing. This is a multiple POV story told from each of the teen sleuth's, and they each have their own secrets intertwined in the mystery.
YA readers who like One of Us is Lying and The Amateurs will appreciate the mystery and the twists and turns. I will be recommending this in my middle school library for 8th grade and up.

While I felt this book was enjoyable overall, I felt like it was longer than necessary, very slow, and a bit mediocre. There wasn't much character development or anything to get me to care about the main characters, I felt that there was so much that just didn't get delved into like it should have been, and some things thrown into the story that didn't need to be there at all. I felt like it could have been done in a more concise way, with the important aspects getting more attention and being more fleshed out. The final showdown at the end was also pretty unbelievably "quirky," and I suspected the murderer from the beginning so there wasn't much of a surprise there. Overall enjoyable but quite a lot that could have been improved upon!

The Agathas follows Alice who was once one of the most popular girls at her private school in the town of Castle Cove before she pulled an Agatha Christie and disappeared after a devastating heartbreak. Alice teams up with Iris, her classmate turned tutor, to solve the murder of her former best friend, Brooke. Given how small Castle Cove is, the book has a very insulated feel, similar to the ones by Agatha Christie, where the book gets its name. I absolutely ate this book up. You won’t be able to put it down. Iris and Alice make for an interesting pair who are there to stand up for Brooke when no one else will. There’s something very powerful in their effort to find out what happened to Brooke, despite the fact neither of them were close to her when she died. This book felt like a mix of Riverdale and Scooby Doo. It’s very Scooby Doo to have teenagers solving a crime, though I’m sure Scooby and the Gang never solved a case quite like this one. Then you add rich teenagers? A match made in heaven. Pick this book up! I have a feeling it’s going to be the book of the summer.

I couldn’t clap harder for those brilliant duo who wrote something even better than One of us is lying series and helped me find a new addiction after the end of A good girl’s guide to murder trilogy!
I fell in love with Agathas! Such a fantastic tribute to one of my all time favorite authors!
I truly devoured Kathleen Glasgow’ previous works: angsty, emotional, realistic young adult novels: including Girl in pieces, her best work: “how to make friends with the dark” and” you’d be home now” that lately I reviewed with five blazing stars !
I also read Liz Lawson’s brilliant, heartfelt debut “Lucky Ones”.
I’m so happy those aspiring authors who ripped my heart several times with their extra angsty, traumatic, realistic words and admirable characters teamed up to create something special. They wrote in different genre and they absolutely nailed it!
This book is unputdownable, exciting, definitely heart throbbing- nail biter- Hercule Poirot’s little grey cells burner- mysterious- entertaining gem!
I am a big fan of YA mysteries and this book gave me everything I need;
Such a great plot, sarcastic and smart storytelling tone, adorable detective duo: Alice ( unconventional, bold, impulsive, smart, famous Gone Girl of school) and Iris : nerdy, intelligent, insecure, tough, resilient, mature. )
Alice belongs to Mains: popular group of the school till she’s dumped by boyfriend who starts dating with her best friend Brooke. After she confronts with them, she disappears and five days later she comes back as if nothing has happened!
Iris; belongs to Zones, dealing with more serious problem, raised by her mother who is bartender, barely making ends meet, tutoring Alice to earn enough money to get the hell out of the town because some THING is out there to threaten her family.
When Alice’s ex friend Brooke who is boyfriend stealer gets missing, two girls teams up to solve mystery. Alice has concerns about her friend’s well being and Iris needs reward money to solve the case and get the out of town!
The pacing, character development, the Zoners ( least popular group of school) as side characters were perfectly developed. The ending was foreseeable but at least there was no plot hole and we got all the answers we need!
I think I need at least 5 more Agathas books! I’m craving right now! I wish there were more books! I already got addicted! I can sing Robert Palmer’s popular classic with new lyrics; “ Might as well face it, I’m addicted to this series”
I cannot wait to read more adventures of Agathas! I already missed them!
Millions of thanks to NetGalley and Random House Children’s/ Delacorte Press for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

I absolutely loved this book. One of the main characters quotes Agatha Christie and follows by her example which makes the book extra good. Basically a highschool girl end up dead and 2 other highschool girls (unlikely friends) team up to find out whodunnit! This book was flawlessly written and kept me reading until the early hours of the morning. I would recommend to anyone who loves a great who done it / mystery. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for a honest review.

This is a solid mystery with two distinct protagonists with two distinct voices. The clues and twists are just enough to keep the reader engaged without it feeling over the top. The references to Agatha Christie's work will surely intrigue a few additional readers along the way (and won't they be pleasantly surprised to find how prolific Christie was!) There are also some fantastic, but not didact, lessons about the power and dangers of social media.
The book also includes notes and resources at the end in acknowledgment that the dark aspects of the story, such as the domestic abuse, can be mirrors of reader's experiences. This is done with honesty and respect to both the story and the audience.

Alice and Iris channel their inner Agatha Christie to figure out what happened to Alice's former BFF who's gone missing. Just a few issues- Alice is the one who was missing last year so who is going to listen to her and what if Brooke is more then just missing. What if she's dead? I can't wait for the sequel to see what the Agatha's will get up to next

I loved this book! Alice and Iris and their team were so well written. The storyline and the twists and turns were great. So many Agatha Christie references! If you liked Truly Devious or One of Us is Lying then definitely check this one out.

I love a good mystery and this did not disappoint! I also really need to check out some Agatha Christie books.
You are dropped right into the middle of high school drama where a girl goes missing and is found dead.
Two girls decide to team up to figure out who is responsible.....is it the boyfriend, the father, the friends, the former best friend......will they discover the truth?

First of all, thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for the advance copy of this book. The Agathas intrigued me based solely on the idea that teenagers would love and try to emulate the queen of mystery, Agatha Christie. Though the market is saturated with whodunits and teen sleuths right now, I do think this one stands out, and the name recognition of the authors will help this one move.
In terms of story, I thought I had it figured out early on; however, the authors guided me right where they wanted me as the plot progressed. I think the twists and turns will satisfy my avid mystery/suspense readers, A definite purchase for my library.

Alice and Iris form an unlikely friendship to solve the mystery of who murdered Alice's former best friend. Sounds simple, however whenever you thrown in teenage drama, huge wealth disparity in an imaginary town, potentially corrupt police, teenage social groups, and more you get a most engaging YA book. Alice's knowledge of Agatha Christie's books and life help frame the narrative. This book has incredible potential to be the start of an engaging YA series. Let's hope the authors are already working on the second book. Thank you #NetGalley.

Fun mystery story centered on two teens who form an unlikely friendship when the best friend of one of them is murdered. Alice and Iris both have issues that they are keeping close to their chests. But when they are thrown together so that Alice can pass her senior year, they slowly learn to trust each other. A trait that is important when they try to solve the mystery of their murdered friend and classmate. Channeling the Agatha Christi mysteries that kept Alice sane over the summer, the two set out to prove their friend Steve is innocent.
Humor, some undertows of abuse, and friendship make this an appealing read for middle school and above.

3.7, really. The plot was a bit meandering and the characters a smidge wobbly, but if you're looking for a quick Christie esq mystery: Gosh, do I have the book for you.

Though fans of One of Us is Lying and Agatha Christie mysteries may enjoy this book, I found it to be a little lacking in character development. The main character., Alice, enjoys reading Agatha Christie, but there's not much depth to this, and the other main character does not read them at all, so it's a bit of a stretch to call this book "the Agathas." From the description and title, I assumed both characters were fans of Christie and would use what they learned from the books to help solve a mystery. A decent enough read, but did live up to other similar YA murder mysteries.

Twisty, full of high school angst, and serious topics; this one covers it all. The Agathas is a fun novel, yet readers will find some important takeaways. I loved it and I’m hoping for a sequel. I’m not finished with Alice and Iris! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my review.
