I loved this serial killer thriller. I had to read it immediately after Elaine Murphy’s first novel. Although I know this was probably the final chapter in Becca and Carrie’s journey…I would love a third book!
I didn't realize this was the second in a series. I think it'd be best to read them in order, as I had trouble connecting with the characters, and that might not have been the case if I'd read the first book. I found the book to be "meh" overall. If you like dark humor, it may be one for you to check out (after reading the prior book).
I found this book just as fun as "Finlay Donovan is Killing It", one of my most favorite dark comedy reads. "I Told You This Would Happen" balances thrill and giggles and is an all around great read.
3/5 Stars!
This review contains spoilers for the first book in this series, Look What You Made Me Do, but does not contain spoilers for this installment. You've been warned!
Five months after her encounter with Footloose, Carrie is slowly settling into a somewhat normal life. Becca is dead, things with Graham are getting more serious, but she still is searching for answers. After all, they didn't find Becca's body, and there have been three hit-and-run incidents so far this month alone...
This series by Elaine Murphy is honestly a ton of fun. While it may not be the most chilling/terrifying of thrillers, this series is honestly charming because of the dynamic between Carrie and Becca. Toxic AF? Absolutely. Manipulative? Without a doubt. Oddly adorable? Yeah.
If you liked the first book, I definitely would recommend picking this one up!
*I received an ARC from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and views in this review are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc. I was so excited to receive a copy because Look What You Made Me Do was one of my favorites of last year.
I loved being back in this world with Carrie and watching her deal with the fallout of what happened in the first book. I was holding my breath the entire time waiting for her to get caught. I found this just as action packed and thrilling as the first one.
Serial killer thrillers are one of my favs and this one is Creeptastic and Unputdownable! Two sisters, lots of dead bodies, secrets, lies and unlikeable female characters = just exactly perfect! I look forward to more from this author as I run to get her first book! Excellent read!
Thank you to the publisher for my copy. All thoughts are my own.
Omg- I enjoyed this must read from start to finish! Elaine Murphy’s latest novel I Told You This Would Happen is the follow-up to Look What You Made Me Do. I haven’t read the first book, but I had absolutely no problem jumping in with this book! In saying that, I just 1-clicked the first novel because I adored Elaine Murphy’s writing style! This fast paced read had me nervously biting my nails at times and at other times I literally laughed out loud! I thought the character development was pretty prefect-I would love to see this novel/series made into a movie(s)! I Told You This Would Happen is a 5 star book that I HIGHLY recommend! The upside to starting this series with the 2nd installment is that I can immediately start reading Look What You Made Me Do — wooohooo!
This is a sequel to Elaine Murphy's "Look What You Made Me Do". It CAN be read alone, but is much more enjoyable if you have read the first book. Carrie's serial killer sister Becca is dead, and she is hoping that means discovery of all of Becca's dark deeds are dead as well. But Carrie is forced to act to prevent things from coming to light. This book is a fun follow-up to the first one, and is filled with dark humor.
I did not realize that I Told You This Could Happen is a follow-up to Elaine Murphy's debut, Look What You Made Me Do, when I requested it. While I don't think it's necessary to read the first book in order to enjoy this one, I wish I had. I had some trouble connecting with the characters that I think wouldn't have been in issue for me if I'd read the first book.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of I told you this would happen by Elaine Murphy.
Wow, what a fun, amazing read. This was such a great, original story where the only bad thing I can say is that I really wish I knew this was the second book so I could have read and loved the first one just as much. However, you do not necessarily have to read that one for this to add up and make sense. I'm honestly shocked more people hadn't read the first one which was her debut. This book was written like a pro that has more bestsellers than she can count. I loved the humor, darkness, and emotions in this book. Told from the point of view of a serial killer's sister, this is a must read for fans of thrillers. I highly suggest you go out and get a copy to support this author.
I Told You This Would Happen by Elaine Murphy was a huge hit for me. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend this to others. The plot was so interesting and the pacing of the book was perfect. This one kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. The ending was satisfying. Thank you to Netgalley and to Grand Central Publishing for the ARC. I will definitely look for more by this author in the future.
If someone had told me, in my pre reading Elaine Murphy days, that I would be laughing out loud while a character gets his head bashed in, I would have thought they were just as crazy as, well, a character in an Elaine Murphy novel...
I’m a little bummed that this is a sequel. I did not realize that at the time I requested it.
However, it is a very well written book and an excellent story. Now to go buy the first book!
So when I saw this cover, I instantly went to Amazon and pre-ordered a copy. Clueless as to what the book was even about. I mean, who cares ! It’s going to look gorgeous on my shelf 💄 .
Just kidding, I went back and read the synopsis and it sounds just as incredible as it’s cover.
Elaine Murphy is also the author behind “Look What You Made Me Do”, that is out right now ! 👀 I read this book last year and I devoured it in one sitting ! The story line was unique and not like anything I have read before. If you haven’t already read this one I highly recommend it ! I Told You This Would Happen, is actually the sequel to Look What You Made Me Do. I Told You This Would Happen, can not be read as a stand-alone so I highly recommend you purchase Look What You Made Me Do, like, now.
I have never been a super fan of series books, however, once again I have proved my own beliefs wrong that the second book cant possibly be better than the first. This book is off the charts! I absolutely loved it, I loved Look What You Made Me Do, as well so its so hard to even attempt to compare, so I will let you be the judge.
Also, I have to give credit where credit is due and I actually saw Darby Kane post about this book and I mean come on, if the fabulous Darby Kane is anxious to read this, you bet your sweet tush you should be too !
I Told You This Would Happen, releases July 12. I highly recommend you pre-order yourself a copy .
Big thank you to Netgalley, Elaine Murphy, and Grand Central Publishing, for allowing me the honor to read and review this book prior to the big day in exchange for an honest review!
What a winner!!!! I was extremely eager to read this book and I was not disappointed. A great story with even better characters. One of the best books I’ve read all year.
