A quick, fast paced read with lots of twists and turns. I had a hard time getting invested in any of the characters but I felt it was an interesting story with a unique plot.
I received an ARC of, No Way Home, by Jody Feldman. This is a good mystery for kids. Tess is a good character, and the setting of Italy, is very nice.
Special thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the chance to read the title ‘No Way home’ by Jody Feldman.
This is a YA thriller book which draws you right in and the author did an amazing job of adding all these elements and pulling it off to make such a good young adult thriller which I read straight through.
Starting off with our main girl Tess who has been selected to be in an exchange program in Rome which I’m sure is any young adults dream.. anyway she is staying in Rome with a host family whilst their daughter is staying with with Tess’ family. Overall everything seems to be going well for Tess until she see’s Sophie (the other girl) holding a knife over her parents sleeping form. She has to do everything they say and if not her parents will be killed. Tess’ decisions lay with her parents future. With no way to get home and no way to alert the authorities she has to do everything they say.
No way home had a nail biting suspenseful plot to it, the character was written very well, I was expecting her to be crying and not as composed as she was, Tess was a likeable character in my views.
Very fun and a unique plot which draws you in and keeps you reading as it can be a quick read but overall an enjoyable read, I did find a few moments of the book predictable but I still thoroughly enjoyed it, I still have a special place in my heart for YA thrillers.
Once again a special thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for my arc in exchange for my honest review.
I will be posting my review on my platforms and Waterstones, kindle books, B&N and other platforms close to its publication date.
I've read so many four and five star books from Sourcebooks Fire that I was expecting the same again. But sadly for me this just squeezes in at 3 stars. With a storyline involving the threat of death to the main character's parents, this should have been tense and full of suspense, but I just wasn't feeling it. It didn't help that the first 30 pages or so led the reader on a scenic tour of Italy rather than getting into the plot.
I was also confused as to who the audience of the book was. The plot felt like teen but the telling of the story felt like middle school. I think it would have made more sense if the characters were a bit younger and they were solving a mystery which did not rely on saving anyone's life.
I received this arc from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Tess Morelli has a chance of a lifetime to live in Rome when she is chosen for a foreign exchange program in Rome. Tess will spend a month in Rome with a host family while their daughter, Sophia, lives in D.C. with Tess's family. Several red flags are raised as soon as she gets on the plane. The host family seems nice, maybe a little strange. Things take a turn for the worse when Tess sees Sophia holding a knife over Tess's sleeping parents on a video chat.. They force her to do everything they say, or they will kill her parents. She has no way to get back home as they took her passport, money and phone.
I was hoping to enjoy this novel more that I did. No Way Home had an interesting plot, but it didn't hold my interest. I found it predictable. Feldman did a fantastic job with describing scenes that transports the reader to Italy as well as including Italian dialogue. Just not a book for me!
No Way Home is unlike any book I've read before! And the fact that the author was able to pull off this type of plot for a young adult book is truly amazing! I enjoyed it immensely. If you enjoy a YA thriller with twists and turns you won't want to miss this one!
At some point every girl dreams of going to Rome. For Tess her dream comes true when she gets accepted into an exchange program. She's over the moon excited to spend time in Italy! She will switch places with a Italian girl named Sofia. She's so excited and her host family seems great. Things take a turn when Tess realizes they have taken her parents hostage in America. They force her to do everything they say or they will kill her parents. She's left alone in Italy with a fake passport, no money or phone. How can she save herself and her parents? No Way Home has a very interesting plot, and I thought it was unique and interesting. I don't think I ever got fully invested in the story or the characters though. It was fun, quick read but I never fell in love with it.
No Way Home by Jody Feldman is a fast paced read. This book really drew me in from the beginning and kept my attention all the way through.
Jody did an amazing job with her writing style which I really got into. The tension throughout the book had me on the edge of my seat.
An engrossing plot and wonderful characterization.
She created one intense work of art here.
This is how I know I've read a great book is when I didn't want it to end.
Well worth the read.
Sourcebooks Fire,
Thank you so much for this eARC.
I will post to my platforms close to pub date.
What an amazing book!
The book is super exciting and would love to read more from the author!
Thankyou netgalley for the ARC
This is Jody Feldman's YA debut novel. I very much liked the story and the characters. How the main character, Tess, didn't break into tears every day was astounding. No Way Home reminded me of a mixture of Nancy Drew and Uncharted. Jody Feldman wrote descriptive and vivid scenes that transported me to the various Italian landmarks, and I felt like I was there with Tess and Devin (and the other characters).
The plot was well-paced, and there were exciting moments that had me on the edge of my seat. The only thing that got on my nerves was giving characters the same facial or body-language movements. In almost every chapter, the Devin character was described as arching his eyebrow.
I would read more from this author. A good book overall and kept my interest throughout.

I have mixed feeling about this YA-Thriller. I thought it was going to be something different than what it actually was. I loved the premise. I enjoyed the beginning but somewhere along the way I lost my enthusiasm. Perhaps because it is YA? Overall it was just ok for me.
Tess Morelli is elated when she is chosen for a foreign exchange program in Rome. She will spend a month in Rome with a host family and their daughter will spend a month in D.C with Tess’s family. Sounds like a dream come true until Tess sees the host family’s daughter holding a knife over Tess’s sleeping parents on a video chat!
The family then tells Tess that she must follow everything they say or her parents will be killed. They take away all her belongings: passport, credit cards, phone. They give her a fake passport which says she is illegal in the country and bug her room, purse, and other items. They see everything. They hear everything. They are always watching and knows where she is at all times. They have people everywhere watching her as well. Tess is in between a rock and a hard place as she is forced to commit various crimes. Will Tess be able to save herself and her family?
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
What happens when you move to a completely new place across the world, away from your family and with strangers... who turn out to be your worst nightmare. Tess thought she was living the dream, she was accepted into an exchange program in Rome. She will be moving in with her counterpart’s family, Sophia will then move into Tess’s family for the period of the exchange. Everything starts off fine despite the language barrier until she is awoken by her hosts who are on a video chat with their daughter... who is holding a knife over Tess’s sleeping parents. They threaten Tess that she has to do everything they say or else they will kill her parents. They take her passport, her credit cards, and phone and there is always someone watching her every movement and whatever she says. Tess is plunged into a nightmare, with no one she can trust, a world away from her family, and a language barrier, how will she make it out of this alive. Now she will have to find a way to outwit her host family and save her parents. This was suppose to be her dream trip but now its her nightmare. Overall a fun thrilling read, as someone who did participate in an exchange program over the summer in Europe this was pretty close to home to me. The stakes were high and the story was a fun read overall.
*Thanks Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire, Sourcebooks Fire for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
This book is an incredibly creepy thriller. I absolutely was on the edge of my seat the entire book waiting to see what would transpire. The main character in someone you could really get behind in room for which is absolutely essential in this story. I loved it!
