For readers interested in a more natural and holistic witchcraft, this is a good book. There isn't much here in the way of narrative information, but it's a solid resources for spells, herbs, and more that a cottage type witch might need.
Wild Witchcraft is a wonderful reference book for anyone who is interested in homesteading by foraging near them, growing herbs for medicinal and for food purposes, and for what to avoid while growing. This would certainly be a great addition to any library! I really enjoyed learning through this book.
A great comprehensive guide! It's a great book for a beginner to pick up if they want to really delve into plant magick.
Ever had a book that was meant for you to have? I think this dang little book was meant for me. Let me tell you. I had a copy from Netgalley. Did I realize that? Nope. I bought a copy for my kindle. Then my friend bought me a hardcover for my birthday.
The joys of getting old.
I LOVED this sucker. Beyer tells about each things in a way that just drags you into it. She gives what she knows and tells the back story and folklore tidbits of herbs, practices and I highlighted almost the whole dang book.
Booksource: Netgalley, Amazon, and my friend...cuz I'm a dumbass.
So like I loved this book. Dont ask why but especially the poisonous plant section haha. But from start to finish this made my witchy heart so so happy and I will definitely be buying a physical copy for my shelves.
This book would be an excellent addition to anyone's witchy library! This book goes in depth enough but also covers so many topics, it is a must have! I loved how the author shares with readers her beliefs and experiences and demonstrate her expert knowledge of witchcraft. This book is inspirational and one you won't want to miss!
thanks to NetGalley and Simon Element for providing me with this ARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed this read and am delighted to continue to use it as a reference. A fascinating look into the history of herbalism and developing a connection to our land. I felt this was incredibly well researched and communicated and provides the reader with tools to put to practice in their daily lives.
Beyer covers history, growing your own garden, foraging, and a great collection of remedies to help the reader get starting on their herbalism journey.
A must have for any herbalist/medicinal plant enthusiasts
I'm going to be honest: I originally requested this book because the author lives about an hour from my old hometown (in my favorite city in the state). I'm not witchy, and would likely die if left to my own devices to find food in the forest. BUT! I really enjoyed this book. It made me *feel* witchy, and I appreciate that. ^_^
This book is absolutely recommended to the pagan who wants to connect to the land and feel like they're aligned with the world around them. Beyer does a beautiful job of talking about her own journey, getting us started with some of the basics of foraging and using basic herbs and spells while underlining the importance of both personal connection to our own place and ancestors and respect for cultural traditions of BIPOC practices and awareness of the cost of colonization. I'll be looking forward to more books from her in the future!
Beautifully written and thoroughly researched, Wild Witchcraft by Rebecca Beyer is the book all witches need on their reference shelves!
Great reference book for beginners and practitioners alike. The book is very organized, well written and packed with information. There are recipes for tinctures, salves and teas to enjoy! You can definitely tell a lot of thought and research went into this.
I really enjoyed this. I'm trying to learn more about incorporating witchcraft into my life and this was so helpful and informative. There are a good mix of fun, informative and helpful in learning about gardening my way into witchcraft. The author is very knowledgeable in all elements of plants, nature and the history.
This is an easily accessible book (almost textbook) on spells and witchcraft. For good not evil! Lots of information organized well into sections to provide good reference.
Wild Witchcraft is amazing! Rebecca Beyer draws from personal experience as an Appalachian witch and forger to create this thorough guide that breaks down various herbs and their uses. These include catnip (prominent use in Southern folk medicine), chamomile (with sleep-inducing properties), and sage (great for treating colds). Beyer creates a fun balance in the organization of this book with healing herbs like thyme and fennel, and then a part devoted to poisonous plants such as belladonna. It's fascinating to read about these well-known poisonous plants and see other uses for them, other than poisoning someone. This is an ideal read from the perspective of both a herbalist and a witch with a presence in the writing that pulls you into the world of plants.
Wonderfully readable and wise. Definitely will recommend to any pagan/green witch readers and plant people.
A straightforward and informative text. Breyer gives a brief and no-nonsense background on witchcraft before diving into foraging and hedge witchcraft practices.
I really enjoyed this book; very informative, very well written . . . what's not to like !! I think it is a wonderful introduction to a fascinating subject.
I appreciated the tone of this book the most, and the respect given to indigenous people and other POC. I am not Wiccan and can't speak to how accurate or helpful the book would be to Wiccans, but it seemed heavily researched with a diverse bunch of information.
This was filled with amazing information and I can't wait to get my hands on my own copy.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eArc in exchange for an honest review.
This is an absolutely lovely book. It's a great book for those newer to witchcraft and those who have been practicing for awhile. There are other books which could provide a deeper dive into the subject matter, but this book delivers a thorough overview of the different aspects of witchcraft in its modern applications that stem from the history of witchcraft.
Wild Witchcraft is easy to read because the author makes the content interesting and educational. It would be a fine addition to anyone interested in history, herbalism, witchcraft, or nature.
Wild Witchcraft is a future purchase for me to add to my physical herbal library. I was fortunate to read Wild Witchcraft as a free digital ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Sometimes I read a book for a review, and I know while reading it that it should become a part of my library. I am so pleased when this happens because it's great to support authors who are doing good work. I can't wait for this resource to arrive in my mail today!
