Idiots is Laura Clery’s tell all book about a look into her life as a wife and a mother. I received an ARC of this book and I have never laughed so hard. Clery did not hold back this time around, sharing story after story of the struggles through postpartum amongst other challenges. This book is honest and real. It is for readers who are not easily offended. I for one, loved every page.

I have followed Laura Clery on all forms of social media since I was introduced to Pamela Pumpkin. I love when she makes videos about her husband Stephen who is from England and shows how they have different words for the same item. Most importantly I love when she is real and honest about being a mom. Even though I have never met her, she gives me a sense of community.

That being said when I saw this on @netgalley I knew I needed to read this. I loved this look into her experiences as a mother. The last chapter is all about her neurodivergent family, her son's recent autism diagnosis being one of the main topics.

She is funny, real and honest. I like that she doesn't portray the perfect social media image. This is the sequel to her first book, Idiot which was more about her struggles as an addict. This one was a quick and easy read that made me feel less alone in the sometimes lonely world of motherhood.

I really wanted to love this book and was super excited when I was given access to it on NetGalley. I think that Laura Clery is a genuine and honest person who is deserving of her popularity as an “influencer.”

However, I’m super disappointed in this book and had a hard time getting through some of it because there were a lot of places where she rambled. I think that her raw honesty about motherhood is fantastic, and if you enjoy her sense of humor, you may enjoy this read. It just seemed like a bit of a miss for me: you may like it, though!

I highly recommend checking out her social media profiles and videos before proceeding with reading this book. That way, you can feel her voice and be prepared for her crass sense of humor and her intensity that shines through the book.

One of the hallmarks of Clery's last book, IDIOT, was her unrelenting drive, humor, and optimism; that's not only present and accounted for here, but it has transformed an otherwise-just-okay rumination on childbirth, body positivity, and motherhood (among so many other things) into a bonafide laugh-out-loud inspirational bonanza.

Admittedly, I'm drawing from my own experiences from being alongside my wife during our child's birth, our post-partum events (mostly hers), and general fatherhood activities, but so very much of this resonated tremendously. Clery's willingness to put many aspects of her life on display clearly has its own pros and cons, and, especially so in this work, I connected and felt, well, less isolated in parenthood.

Her decision to put so many of her life experiences on paper, like in her last book, will hopefully help many others in their respective struggles. It's evident that as Clery grows as a person, she's continuing to divine ways that not only convert said wisdom into varied forms of success, but to also empower others and bring them along for the ride.

There's some outrageous stuff in here, for sure. It's a trip of a read and worth every minute.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the advance read.

I have adored Laura Clery for years, and I enjoyed her first book a lot but I could definitely tell there were things she held back from talking about even though there was a lot of shocking revelations. Now, in “Idiots”, Laura let’s us in on some of the things she was ashamed to tell us in the last book. More importantly, she tackles her own experience with pregnancy, motherhood, and marriage and doesn’t hold back with the struggles that she has faced with all 3. Cheating, drugs, placenta eating, work/mom balance, postpartum depression, and a 90 year old “muse” are al talked about in length. I’d this very different then any other memoir out there? No. However Laura’s wit is what makes her life experience very entertaining to read about. When we get to the chapter about her experience with realizing her son has autism, her rawness comes through and despite her humor you really feel how much she loves her children.

Idiots by Laura Clery is a candid collection of essays about her life as a mother of two young children. I hadn’t read her previous book, Idiot, but I get the sense that she covered much of her life prior to having children and this book picks up on where that one ends. I have followed her on social media for a little while and appreciate her candor, creativity, and crass humor.

There is some content overlap in the book and her social media. I really enjoyed much of this book, some parts didn’t work well for me. The pacing was a little frenetic at times and like she was trying to one-up herself with her experiences stacked on each other. I hate criticizing memoirs because it takes so much for someone to put themselves out there and expose their lives and shortcomings, potentially putting themselves and their loved ones at risk for derision and dissection.

I really appreciated her honesty and vulnerability. I especially loved the parts where she discussed her family, especially her children and cousin who struggled with addiction. I found it fascinating to have a backseat to her life as someone so successful on social media, independently pursuing creative endeavors on her time. As a mother to two young children, but with a desk job, my life looks very different, but also our struggles with parenthood raising children are the same.

Laura Clery follows her first novel with a follow-up that focuses on her current day struggles and joys of motherhood, marriage, and family dynamics.

I’ve been a follower of Laura for a long time and have always laughed and enjoyed the raunch and comedic punch she puts in her videos. As a mother, her deeply moving video of postpartum depression left me sobbing and feeling seen. This novel is no different and she takes the readers through a rollercoaster of laughter, tears, and “WTF” moments. Her raw honesty and vulnerability is admirable. The way she speaks about motherhood and how her followers are helping her just as much as she helps us hits home so well. I devoured the book in an afternoon and felt like I was sitting and having coffee with a close friend.

Laura is my spirit animal. I have watched her grow from a funny carefree influencer to a protective momma bear. I love seeing her growth on this journey.

Idiots had so many raw, yet funny, stories that I remembered seeing Laura go through. Many stories were nostalgic like her birth stories. Other stories were new and gave me an even deeper appreciation for Laura.

Laura's secons book is just as amazing as she is. And the raw emotion in the book will bring tears over and over again. From sadness to joy, Idiots has it all.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!

In 2019 I was granted early access to Clery's first book. I had not heard of her prior, but loved her stories that I began following her on social media after the first book. I was so happy to see that she has now written a second story with recent updates in her life, mainly the addition of two children. I follow her Tik Toks and knew she shared updated regarding her son Alfie. I appreciated Clery's raw emotion in this read and how she and her husband processed the news and vowed to be better more present parents. In social media, we can get so caught up on scrolling that we may not realize that we haven't been present with others. Laura's new stories in this book at had me laughing so hard, though I am not a mother, I still thought these stories were so funny about her birthing experiences. I also loved her family stories about her sister and mother and how she grew up. So many great essays, I highly recommend!

Real, raw, and honest! Let me start off by saying if you are easy offended, this book is not for you. Laura does not hold back and does not have a filter. That is why I personally love Laura, she is authentic and real. I’ve been following Laura on social media for several years. I read her first book, Idiot, and I loved it. I learned so much about her and her life and gained more respect for her. When I saw she was releasing this second book, Idiots, focusing around the new chapter of her life, motherhood, I knew I had to read it too. Laura talks about her experience with birth, postpartum, and motherhood open and honestly. Laura talks openly about mistakes she’s made and how she’s moved on and improved. Some parts will make you laugh out loud and others will hit you right in the feels. Laura is able to talk about the hard topics while adding some laughter and lightness into them. Obviously, I highly recommend this book for all Laura Clery fans!

Thank you Net Galley and Gallery books for an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.
