This was really fun. I love second chance romances and Lucy and Tanner's was a great one. I am really loving this series and can't wait to read book 3.
This is the second book in the sling Family Series. I did not read the first book, but feel this one can stand alone just fine but often find that when I go back and read the first in a series standalone or not there is some reference or plot point that makes more sense so all that to say, I’d definitely read in order.
This one features second chance romance, coworkers that are also exes, and characters that are bookish people like me! Also if you like some steamy scenes this one has that for you too.
If you like those plot points I’d recommend checking out this one!
this one is so sexy and cute i love it. my first time reading from this author and i will try her another book to get into it. love the plot of this book very interesting its a lovers to enemies to lovers soooooo good
Ice Cream bread anyone?
Before I go on and on about how I loved this book, let me say something. This author did a good job. This was my first time reading her book, and I loved it.
The author started out by showing us the family dynamics of both characters and how it affected their day-to-day lives, but one thing stood out — it was written so well that you could see growth in both characters. They didn't let their family issues come in the way of what they truly wanted in life.
I loved the way Tanner was so gentle with Lucy's bloody mishap (lol, it's not about murder, read to find out). Their friendship grew from being enemies to friends and then lovers — that's a love story I can relate to.
Thank you, Susannah for a copy of Cream and Punishment. I really enjoyed it. Now let me go make some Ice Cream Bread.
I was really excited to get into this one, but I think my mood really struck me with Cream and Punishment. I wasn't quite connecting with this one and I had to DNF with the possibility of picking up in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Thank you to Haver Street Press and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of “Cream and Punishment” by Susannah Nix. All opinions are my own.

When my request for this book got accepted, I immediately ran to read ‘My Cone and Only’ and I’m so glad I did! I’m fully invested in the King Family and this universe now. I absolutely cannot wait for the next one that comes out later this year (thank god!!)
This story line was well developed and cute. I’m not usually into the “exes to lovers” storyline, but I was definitely rooting for these two very quickly. Without giving too much away, I will say I enjoyed the choices made by the author in the last act of the book and how quickly everything was resolved.
(OMG also that epilogue?? i’m obsessed)
✨🍦Here’s the scoop…🍦✨
This book was an ice cream sandwich, with Tanner and Lucy being two sweet cookies unrelentingly duty bound to their families, and stuffed with just horrible family situations that will have you SCREAMING bloody sprinkle for them to get the hot fudge out of this town. They rarely popsicle stick up for themselves and when they do it’s two scoops too late. Tanner did it first and has my respect, but Lucy really melts my custard. She refused to do anything for herself and expects me to feel bad for her? I’m sorry but I’m a frozen asshole apparently but all she did was piss me off. No cone-test.
Most of the characters were unlikeable for one reason or another. Mainly they were all just wishy washy. I will simply never like the “overwhelming sense of familial duty” theme when the families in question are legitimate dumpster fires and unworthy of our main characters dying on the blades of self sacrifice.
We literally start the book out with Tanner dressed in an ice cream cone mascot costume as punishment from his father. He was like I should quit but I want his money and I’m too scared to leave the sweet embrace of workplace nepotism. The book tries to make him self-aware of his special treatment but I still don’t like how Lucy couldn’t get her promotion (even if he had quit). Would it have been unfair? Sure but his salary would have been gone (with that money going to her promotion raise) and there were a lot of unfair things about the creamery. His father doing a cone-plete 180° at the end was unbe-sprinkable. I don’t buy it one bit it felt waaaay too easy.
Lucy’s brother can literally go choke on a popsicle and her mother deserves to be dipped in a vat of melted chocolate a la Scooby Doo monster mode. She deserves to be forced to truly think about all that she did, ON the page. I never got a true sense of justice for that waffle cone wench.
Tanner gets brownie points for leaving the company when he did although it should have been as soon as he was told to put on an ice cream cone cop mascot costume. He says he doesn’t deserve all the jobs and chances but he never refuses them and I don’t like that one brownie bits. Lucy took too long and her “cone” to Jesus moment wasn’t remarkable. It was the same situation that happened the entire time throughout the book, but THIS time she decided to take umbrage (it’s my word of the day).
I liked their chemistry from the beginning and loved the workplace drama. However, it didn’t last very long and they banged it out around 50%. The first bang was good and hot but the rest were all closed door lickity banana split and to that I say, of course! Because I can’t have ONE nice thing. Also his dirty talk was alright except for when he used the words “bountiful” and “succulent” like she was a prize thanksgiving turkey. She apparently liked his poetic foreplay but I choked on my cake cone. I liked their frozen treat photoshoot and really craved ice cream throughout this whole book.
Overall, I wasn’t totally sure at the beginning because the writing style wasn’t totally my thing, but I really did think it was going to turn around after the sex. I liked the characters when not considering their families. I liked their tension and drama. Ultimately, I was too annoyed with their self-sacrificial, half-pint attempts at fixing their families. I never felt like there was enough yelling and making everyone else feel bad to justify the actions.

✨Thank you to the author for an advanced review copy. All opinions are honest and my own.✨
I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK!
Tanner is the best!!! I loved him so so much, Lucy though was a bit more difficult to like but she experiences a lot of growth and character development which was very great!
If it weren’t for the conflict (which they totally could have avoided if they would just talk to each other) this would have been a five star read.
I was super excited to read this story at first. I thought the theme of the story wasn't very original, but yet I really wanted to dive in and discover the world and the characters. I devoured three quarters of the book in a few hours. But it took me a long time to read the end. I don't really know why. I think at some point, I got bored. There wasn't much action, it was just the same old stuff. Except for this episode, I found the story easy to read. The characters are endearing. I liked the second chance trope. The secondary themes to this story were well exploited and not always expected.
I still recommend this romance, even if I didn't like the ending as much. I don't think I was in the right frame of mind to continue reading, but I still remember it well.

This is only the second book by Susannah Nix that I have read and I can’t wait to read more. Light and warm hearted contemporary romance that you can read in one sitting- yes please!
Our hero is broken hearted- he dated his dream woman and fell in love, but as soon as he told her she broke up with him. What could be worse than nursing a broken heart? Maybe working every single day with his ex? Well that’s exactly what happens when his sister offers him a job and then finds himself in the desk next to his ex. Seeing her every day brings back all of his feelings, but can his ex ever stop running from commitment?
I LOVED the gender reversal on the trope where the woman falls hard and scares the man off. The fact that the hero admitted to loving the heroine within 6 weeks and then she ran? I loved reading this! I also loved getting to know the characters and why they did what they did as well as seeing them grow to being people who could actually be in a relationship with each other.
Who doesn't love a Susannah Nix book, she can do no wrong! Especially when second-chance romance, workplace romance and forced proximity is involved.
Just the right amount of angst, steam, wit and butterfly moments. I’m really looking forward to reading the next books in the series.
This is the second book in the King Family series. This book features King brother, Tanner. He had a short-lived relationship with Lucy but he got too serious too fast so she stopped talking to him. In this book, Lucy & Tanner are unexpectedly thrown together while working for the King family business. Will seeing each other again make their feelings come back?
I have to say that I adore these books. Susannah Nix has created a really intriguing world with the King Family books. The complicated family dynamics are really interesting and so far I have also really enjoyed the romances in these two books. I think the part of her books I like the most though is that they go much deeper than a lot of romance books. They explore their relationship as a whole, not just the usual formula. I feel like I get to know each one of these characters really well. Although, I am looking forward to Ryan's book next aren't we all just waiting for Brady's book?

I am very happy to bring you the review of Cream And Punishment is the second book in the saga of the King brothers but they can be read separately.
I recommend that you read them in order because if it gives us a little spoiler of what happened in the previous book and aside from the first book it is just as good as this one.
In this second part he tells us the story of Lucy and Tanner King. They had been a couple before but after an event they separated. Tanner no longer wants to work at his father's company but he has no choice if he wants to earn money for his expenses; his older sister Josie offers him a position in the Marketing area of the family business and he will have to work with none other than Lucy (his ex-girlfriend).
This book has:
-Office Romance
-Rivals to Lovers
-Second opportunity
-lots of ice cream
-A beautiful kitty
-A man who loves reading
This book became one of my favorite books of 2022 and this love story was also about personal growth for both of us.
My favorite character by far is TANNER KING (new literary boyfriend) and he is the most cheerful, kind and cutest character I have ever read. He cares about his family and the people he cares about.
And please he loves to read and he has books in his house, I seriously fell in love with him. It makes me super happy and I laughed when I quoted parts of books to Lucy and awwww, does the perfect man exist?
His name is TANNER KING!!!

SPOILERS
Our protagonist Lucy from the previous book caught my attention and in this book being able to see her life and everything that was happening was surprising because we see her role as an older sister. It's hard to do everything on your own and have no one help you and seeing that part of Lucy made me so human.
What seemed horrible to me was Lucy's relationship with her mother since the lady was dependent on Lucy and didn't let her lead her life and I didn't like her throughout the book.
Lucy and Tanner then see the connection between them both sentimentally and sexually.
They were comfortable with each other and when they both opened up about their stuff it made that bond stronger.
It has sexual scenes and I feel that even if they were there, they served to grow their bond and realize that they were looking for something more together.
The scenes that I liked the most were when Lucy goes to Tanner's house and they cook desserts to take pictures of them for work. See them cook and that's when they realize they still feel something for each other.
And the best scene of all was when they went on a date in a bookstore. AWWWW I DIED!!!
It's just that Tanner and Lucy used to go there when they were in school and that day they picked out books for each other that were against the genre that the other read.
And that ending where Tanner buys the bookstore and makes it a café-bookstore makes me very emotional apart because he followed his wishes and dreams.
And we can talk about how Lucy asks her to marry him, it's that I didn't expect it and it made me jump for joy.
I can't wait to read the next book which is Ryan's if I'm not mistaken because this book ended up heartbreaking.
Thanks to Netgalley and Susannah Nix who became one of my favorite authors and I will read everything she writes.

-Rivales a Amantes
-Segunda oportunidad
-Muchooo helado

AWWWW ME MORI!!!
I really enjoyed this!! Lucy and Tanner were so fun to read about, and are definitely a new favorite book couple for me. The writing was quality both in wit and prose for the genre and context. The character writing was great, and I loved both characters so much. I will be posting about this on my channels!
4.5 stars rounded up to 5!
When Tanner gets demoted from his family's business, his sister takes pity on him and gives him a new position working in marketing. What he doesn't expect is that his new co-worker will be his ex-girlfriend. As in THE ex girlfriend that he loved (still loves) and she...didn't love him back. So now he has to find a way to work with Lucy every single day despite still being desperately in love with her.
I just LOVE second chance romances!! Easily one of my favourite tropes and this definitely lived up to my second chance redemption dreams.
Tanner is such a little cinnamon roll and he is SO SO in love with Lucy. I admit that right off the bat, I was a little nervous that Lucy was not going to be likeable BUT she had a lot of character development. I loved loved loved all the pining we got from the two of them, I was SO pleasantly surprised by the spice!!!! Really well written spice if I do say so myself. I thought their relationship was really sweet and romantic as well. I really loved the two of them together.
Individually, I also thought they were wonderful characters! Once we got the details of Lucy's life, I think everything made a lot of sense and the pieces started to fall into place. As for Tanner, I was so happy to see him figure things out for HIMSELF. He had a lot of character development as well that I think was super necessary.
I love all the other characters and getting to know about their families and connections (I love small town stories because EVERYONE knows EVERYONE), so so fun. I'm excited to read the other stories in this series.
I did find the beginning a little bit slow and hard to get into. This is part of the King Family series and in hindsight, I think reading the first would have made the beginning of this a lot easier and quicker to get through.
Overall, I really enjoyed this!! I can't wait to hear more from the King Family!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Haver Street Press for an e-ARC of Cream and Punishment! This in no way influences my review. All opinions are my own and voluntary.
I had high hopes for this book, but it really let me down. I was not a fan of Lucy at all. She just kept hurting Tanner with her immaturity, and Tanner let her walk all over him like Lucy's mom did to her. It just felt really annoying and Lucy never totally understood how immature she was acting because no one told her!
The Pride and Prejudice quotes they kept using? Also cringe. I was not a fan of the constant pop culture references especially when they use those references to confess their feelings for each other. And also... the family dynamics between the Kings? Sounded A LOT like Succession...
a.) enemies-to-friends (and coworker LOL)
b.) friends-to-lovers
c.) workplace romance
d.) second chance romance
e.) family relationship
do i need to say more? i am a sucker for these tropes and the awkwardness and tension between the two were just really funny to me. it's nice to have lucy and tanner's POVs because they made the story more fun and enjoyable to read.
~
this book also highlighted some things about wanting and being in a relationship. sometimes, it's better to say "no" because you're not ready to commit than having the other person hope for nothing. i also love the character development and the personality of lucy and tanner. they're just really adorable together. oh.. by the way, there were spicy scenes!! my goodness!! the chemistry and the tension between the two were soooo HOT.
~
i definitely enjoyed reading this! i highly recommend this if you're looking for a fun read!
Cream and Punishment follows the story of Lucy and Tanner, exes who get a second chance at love after Lucy breaks Tanners heart.
Quick thoughts:
LIKES - The characters were so likable! Not just Tanner and Lucy, but Tanner’s extended family and Lucy’s friends too! The storyline was great! It was a unique plot, which I really enjoyed! And Tanner was totally swoon-worthy!
DISLIKES - I didn’t love how much Lucy’s mom took advantage of her. (However, I’m sure the reader isn’t really supposed to like her!)
Read if you like:
*second chance romances
*workplace romances
*relatable family issues
*a book that is part of a series, but can also be a stand-alone
This book was super cute! I really enjoyed the book. Funny, just the right amount of steamy, sweet. LOVED IT.
Lucy was a little frustrating to me, I will admit it. I kind of wanted to scream JUST TALK to them. But overall it was still enjoyable!
A great and interesting read with intriguing characters!! This is the first book I read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last. Cream and Punishment was an enjoyable read!! The story was easily captivating and I couldn’t put it down.
