This book was fine. I love a New York setting and I appreciate pop culture references, but the cover made this seem like a romance which it wasn’t.
Not really sure what I just read.
The lingo/slang and dialogue just don’t feel natural. Is this how anyone in the works talks? I don’t believe it. Made me cringe and feel super disconnected the whole time.
The plot and timing and attachment is all so weird. Felt a bit like a fever dream that just couldn’t get into.
Hinting at sex/spice but absolutely closed door/no details. Not really romantic overall either. Even at ending, she doesn’t really know what they’re doing but they live together? I don’t know.
Carli works at a media company and Tau is a rising music star. Carli wants to chase her dream of being a singer/songwriter but finds her dreams getting tangled up with Tau. Carli must decide if she can chase her dream and have a relationship.
I really enjoyed this audiobook. I loved that Carli was independent and had her own dreams and also the celebrity romance trope (my fave).
This also shied away from the common third act breakup as it was more about Carli deciding what she wanted from life and her dreams.
A rom-com, but one I couldn't get into. Flat love interest, and an Alpha male I didn't care about. Liked the music industry background though.
This was a lighthearted read about the behind the scenes of the music industry. I think the cover is so pretty and what drew me in. However this was just not something that held my attention it was too much of slow burn.
Good Morning, Love was a lighthearted romance that had a slow burn development for me. Carli is an ambitious and hungry for success in the shiny corporate Manhattan world working with artists, but she's an artist herself. She has to strike a tough balance between being at her boss' beck and call and allowing her artistic side to shine. Tau Henderson is a singer with a black book as illustrious as his career. It's a romance novel, so you can guess what might happen here. This one developed really slowly and I found myself hungry for Carli and Tau's story to be peaceful and at ease with each other - which didn't really happen until 99% of the way through the book. I wanted more of them!
Carli is an ambitious and talented young songwriter with a full-time job problem. We get to see her navigate both worlds while secretly dating an R&B star. This book strikes a nice balance between drama/serious themes and rom-com/lighthearted themes without either taking over. I also really appreciated that it doesn’t follow some of the more common romance tropes where there is an easily solved issue that threatens to breakup the main couple. Instead there were realistic challenges and solutions, well realistic if you ever found yourself dating someone famous anyway!
Minus one star because some things were slightly predictable. Overall, well worth the read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read. All opinions are my own.
4 out of 5 stars.
"Good Morning, Love" is a story about following your dreams with some romance on the side. While a little bit slow in parts, the music industry aspect is interesting. The ending was a little open and makes me wonder if a sequel is in the works. A quick, fun read. Some industry jargon and pop culture references may be confusing if you are not in the know (like me!)
Thank you to Simon and Shuster and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of this book for my honest review.
This was a sweet love story that touched topics in a sensitive manner. I found the heroin to be delightful throughout the books, and I was rooting for the couple.
Good Morning, Love is a debut novel that takes readers behind the scenes of the music industry and into the life of Carlisa Henton, a musician juggling her dreams with a day job in New York City. While the book offers a fresh look at the music scene and includes diverse characters, its execution left me with mixed feelings.
I found the book a bit slow slow and hard to get into. The romance between Carlisa and Tau lacked depth and emotional resonance, with the relationship feeling superficial. While the story picks up later on with the couple having to hide their relationship, the romance was not strong enough to carry the narrative.
Life caught up to me as I was reading this and I never got to finish it. I have now finally been able to finish this and let me say it was amazing. It pulled me right out of a reading slump. The characters were well written and I felt like they were my friends too. The problems they faced were real and raw. 10/10 reccommend.
Honestly, this book was a hit and miss for me. While I do live that we’re getting the black romance representation it just feel flat for me. The book was going too slow for me and while I get it’s supposed to be sort of a slow burn it was tooo slow of a burn, especially silly for the amount of pages in the book. It is only 288 pages so it’s a quick (-ish) read!
Good Morning Love is a book about more than just about falling in love. We see the caharacters following their dreams and finding out what they really want can take them very far in life. it was great to see an Afro Latina working and striving in the music industry. She didn’t leave her friends behind when she made it. Many told Carli to stay away from Tau because of his status and his past and Carli learned to figure things out for herself. I loved how each “Chapter” was called a Track.
The book started off really slow for about 30% of the way in but then picked up very nicely afterwards.
Very well written book. Really enjoyed this author, would definitely read more by this author and recommend on my book IG
A peak into the music world. Dating a famous musician. Career and growth mindset.
Carli is chasing her dreams as a songwriter, while working as a Junior Account Manager at a media company when she catches the eye of a famous musician, Tau. I loved the natural progression of this story. And the writing will suck you in! Carli has ambition and strength. This story felt so authentic. Looking forward to more from this author. Great story teller. Great audiobook!
Enjoyed, but don't have a ton to say — was about average compared to other books of the same type that I've read, so I at least had a fun time with it!
Carli is a junior account manager for a media company and had high ambitions for her life including making it as a songwriter. She meets and is pursued by a famous musician her thoughts for her life change and forced her to reevaluate what she really wants.
Parts of this story were pretty slow and I thought this was supposed to be a romance, but it’s more of a true-life skewed storyline. Not bad, not great. Ending was just underwhelming.
