I absolutely LOVED this book!!!
Artemis is a bookish blue stocking who believes that every woman should have the chance to learn whatever she pleases and dreams of one day opening a university for ladies. A strong independent woman who knows her worth, and will do whatever it takes to earn her freedom, and in turn help her little sister get the life she wants.

Dominic is a man who is ready for a wife, someone that will help him raise his 15-year-old daughter. However he has a problem, the ton believes that he had something to do with his wife's death and while they don't actively shun him or anything he knows that he is going to have a hard time getting any lady to agree to become his wife...

From their first meeting, you can tell there are going to have some great chemistry, and after they enter into their mutually beneficial partnership they grow even closer. I love how they were with each other, every interaction was sweet and steamy. Watching them fall in love was especially heartwarming.

It left me with that warm and fuzzy feeling, and I couldn't stop smiling at the end.

I loved all of the side characters, and can't wait to see who is going to get their HEA next!

While the first pages were intriguing as the heroine was far from the prim and proper behavior expected due to her position, her thoughts revealed a funny side, but it soon appeared the narrative was closer to a gothic story like the heroine likes to plot or read with impossibly crazy villains than a true Victorian romance.

I also have a problem with women whose brain turns to jelly when in the vicinity of a yummy male specimen. Even more when the heroine is supposed to be sensible, articulate with a set goal and is not prudish.
Why I struggled to see the chemistry between Dominic and Artemis, it was more lust than sparks on her side, while he is intrigued by this woman who rebuke him.
Even when their arrangement is running its course, each having set their boundaries and goals, I did not like she twisted his every words, often turning them against himself because it suited her best than to see he was a nice and fair man caught in some other’s vile game. When all his words are true, as he hopes for more but lets the choice to her.

On a note, I am not believe a peer just below royalty would be shunned by the ton even with the worst reputation ever, he would still be one of the highest ranking among them, even more eligible if he were looking for a spouse.
The villain is outrageous and grossly crafted as a sneering snake, and the women who fall for his lies even more silly, worse, they are deaf to any warning even from their kin as who listen to a cad over their blood relatives.

Amy Rose Bennett's Up All Night with a Good Duke was an absolutely fantastic historical romance. Artemis Jones is on the shelf -- and glad for it. Her dreams don't revolve around husbands and children but starting a women's college where women will have the intellectual freedom to study what they choose. Dominic Winters aka the Dastardly Duke of Dartmoor, has decided to end his mourning and venture back out into a society that views him with suspicion to find a wife. After a chance meeting with Artemis, Dominic is immediately enthralled. Entering into an engagement of convenience Dominic and Artemis must decided where their hearts truly are.
The writing was great, and the relationship between Artemis and Dominic was great. The side characters served the story well, and allowed our mains to really shine. It has everything you could want out of a historical romance. The narrative followed along excellently really adding to its readability. Artemis and Dominic are both very likeable characters and deal with each other and their relationship in a very straightforward way. Not necessarily high on angst, but but engaging.

Really loved this one. It started so strong and pulled me completely in the story. I loved how independent Artemis was. Dominic was such a good counterbalance for her. They had the best banter, especially during their first few meetings. This book was so sexy, romantic, and fun. THere was a part in the middle that wasn't as strong as the beginning for me, but overall I really enjoyed it and cant wait to read more from this author. Hopefully we get Lucy and Jane stories next. 4 1/2 stars.

I was provided an ARC for my fair and honest review.

Miss Artemis Jones was a spinster of twenty-nine years old. She was working at a Girls' school as a teacher. She hoped to be able to open her own school, so women could get as good an education as men. She also writes those wonderful gothic novels. The MCs are Gentle, loving, and truthful with each other, which is so nice. It is fun to listen to Artemis try to swear, like titans' truncheon. You must admit it is unique.

Dominic Winters, the Duke of Dartmoor, found himself in a difficult position. The ton thought he killed his wife and disposed of her on the moor. He also had a fifteen-year-old daughter, whom he was finding difficult. He was thoughtful, charming, attractive, and did not deal with others well. He was always honest with Artemis as she was with him.

I loved this story it was so entertaining and written so well that you could not stop reading. The banter, honesty, and love were vibrant in their relationship. All the characters were in tune with the book, it was amazing.

I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Oh my my!! This was so good! I really loved the heroine and I loved the duke. He was a good guy which I don’t believe is represented often. I definitely recommend this book and plan on reading more by this author.

This book did a nice job with the build up to love but also kept it steamy. I’m not so sure how accurate the heroine’s perspective on physical romance is but I did appreciate her forward thinking. Overall, I will definitely come back to this book!

I enjoyed this story. The main characters were awesome – relatable and fun to spend time with. Some of the side characters added to the story and showed various dimensions of the main characters. The banter and chemistry between the main characters was very good. The writing was easy to consume and follow.

The antagonist(s) in this story didn’t feel complete – I was lacking their motivation for their actions. It felt at times like this/these character(s) was/were added to cause conflict, without any connection to the story or purpose. There were a couple of subplots involving secondary characters that didn’t get concluded, hoping that’s because they will get their own stories.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Let me start off with I love a heroine that is sure of herself, and what she wants in life. I also loved the many layers to Dominic. As for the story, I found myself dragging through this book quite a bit.. I had a hard time getting through it. It is not because of the subject matter, it is because it went a bit too slow for me. I felt like I kept waiting for things to happen, and when they did the payoff wasn't worth the wait.

An older self-declared (and proud of it) spinster meets a self-isolating duke suspected of murder and sparks fly. I enjoyed this story quite a bit. It is steamy, which I love, and features older MC, which can be hard to find in historical romance. The h is the niece of a wealthy baroness who quits her job as a teacher to come help one of her dearest friends, and the h's sister, through a London season. Her aunt dictates that the h also have a season and wants to have the h married before the sister (who is desperate to be married). The H is a widower and father of a teenage daughter whom he does not understand at all. He decides to look for a "proper" duchess who can guide his daughter and provide him an heir. H and h are introduced in a meet-cute fashion and insta-lust results.

This book is fun at points with the banter between H and h. The h is witty and outspoken. The H is a progressive male for this time period (1850s) and doesn't seem to mind her being so, though he isn't as thrilled with his daughter reading the gothic novels that the h loves (and is also a secret author of). There are also some plot holes - the h's backstory is mentioned and sort of dropped, the decision by the H to offer the h marriage rather than a position as his mistress seems somewhat out of the blue, the daughter seemed to capitulate a little too quickly. The governess also acted in ways that seemed unbelievable for the time period. The ending felt a little too long with bad thing after bad thing occurring. I was just waiting for the dead wife to reappear to really cap it off.

All that said, I still really enjoyed the book and will be waiting to read the others in the series about the h's fellow bluestocking besties. I would give 3.5 to 4 stars, but I am rounding up to 4.

**I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley but the opinions expressed are my own,**

Broody scandalous duke + secret gothic romance writer sounds like a delicious recipe but the end result was lackluster. I was so excited to read about Artemis + Dominic but the sexiest thing about them were their names. This romance had some good banter early on but I feel like the plot diverged so far from the original point of the entanglement that I couldn’t buy into it at all. There were also some major plot points, like the backstory of Artemis’ parents, that were dropped into a single paragraph only to not connect to rest of the story in any meaningful way. I know I will forget the storyline of this one pretty quickly after reading it.

Disappointed this didn’t have the spark I was hoping for but will give future installments in the series a try!

Thanks to NetGalley + the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Up All Night With a Good Duke by Amy Rose Bennett is the first book in the Byronic Book Club. The author is focusing this series on three best friends who are obsessed (slightly - okay more than slightly) and have a Byronic Book Club. They often meet over books and over tea and sweets talk about book boyfriends.

The first novel is about Artemis Jones. She is a vicar’s daughter who thanks to her maternal aunt has been offered the many advantages of the ton. Meanwhile, one of her friends desperately needs her help fending off unlikely suitors during the season, so she quits her job and convinces her aunt and sister that she is ready for the “season” and to find a likely husband. However, Artemis really has no intention of marrying and intends to stay an unwed bluestocking.

Duke of Dartmoor, Dominic Winters has a horrid reputation due to the death of his wife. He knows he needs help from someone with his daughter, who is in the throws of teenagitis. Dominic literally runs into Artemis and finds himself totally entranced with her, only he doesn’t know who she is, but he will find out! Together, they find a way to help Artemis make her dreams come true, but…. (yup always a but)

This is the first novel I have read by Amy Rose Bennett. I enjoyed the writing and the characters (Even when I wanted to shake Artemis' keeping secrets.) Up All Night With A Good Duke by Amy Rose Bennett was a good read.

3.5 stars.
Up All Night with a Good Duke was a fun historical romance about Artemis Jones, who secretly writes Gothic Romance novels and Dominic Winters, the Duke of Dartmoor. Artemis was a strong-willed and fiery characters who I very much enjoyed reading about, it was nice to see a heroine in a historical romance being depicted as such a progressive figure without it feeling outlandish. I had a harder time connecting with Dominic, I still don't really know what kind of person he is. He cared so much about his daughter, which is great, but I feel like we didn't get much from him beyond that.

The moment Artemis and Dominic met (and then again at the bookstore) had me smiling from ear to ear. I enjoyed the engagement of convenience trope in this book a lot more than I thought I would, I loved how Dominic handled the situation. I didn't really understand his 'dastardly' reputation, as the rumors about him seemed to have come out of nowhere, there was nothing regarding the death of his first wife that was suspicious enough that it made him a suspect, at least in my opinion. I also didn't really care for Dominics feud with Lord Gascoyne. I did really enjoy all the side characters, especially Celeste and Phoebe, and I hope they get books of their own later on in the series.

I can't wait to read the rest of series, I really enjoyed the writing and would definitely love to read more of this authors work!

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot/Storyline: 📖📖📖📖
Feels: 🦋🦋🦋
Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔💔
Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡
Romance: 💞💞💞
Sensuality: 💋💋💋💋
Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑🍑
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Humor: Just a bit
Perspective: Third person perspective from both hero and heroine’s heads

“Lucifer’s love truncheon,” Artemis muttered without thinking. And then her heart did an odd little tumble when she realized that the man had put out a hand to stop her from slipping. His fingers were curled about her elbow, and when she looked up, her gaze collided with his. Caught.
Lingered.
Lucifer’s love truncheon indeed...

Basic plot:
Artemis would love to open her own ladies college where women would be able to learn all subjects. When he friend asks her to return to London to navigate a season with her, she takes up the opportunity to search for a benefactor. Dominic, known to society as the Dastardly Duke after the suspicious death of his wife, is considering taking on a wife to help guide his teenage daughter. Not that anyone would have him with his reputation...but he keeps running into the very unique Artemis Jones and finds her utterly tempting.

Give this a try if you want:
- Bluestocking heroine
- Child in the story – Dominic’s 15 year old daughter has plenty of page time
- Experienced hero – heroine had a relationship before that ended badly, and has studied plenty of books about the subject
- Fake relationship – these two have a fake betrothal for part of the story
- A bit of hero loves first feel – it takes longer for the heroine to come around and admit her feelings
- Heroine nurses hero back to health
- Secret identity
- Compromised (ruined) heroine
- Secret writer (heroine)
- Victorian time period (1858)
- A mix of London setting and country home
- A touch of class difference, though it’s not a big deal in the story – hero is a duke, heroine is the daughter of a vicar (but her aunt is a dowager Baroness)

Ages:
- Heroine is 29, hero is 38

My thoughts:
I am a bit conflicted on this one – I did love so much about it. But I also struggled with a couple things that hindered my enjoyment a bit. Overall though I think it was a great story. It was my first by Amy Rose Bennett and I would definitely try her again.

Artemis is self described as a ‘rebellious bluestocking. Jaded spinster. Almost 30 year old woman who is not virginal or pure or blue-blooded but has a sharp tongue and radical ideas who never want to marry.’ And I really enjoyed her! She’s strong, smart and independent. She goes after what she wants. She doesn’t need anyone to take care of her, but the duke becomes the partner to match her she never knew she needed.

Dominic was just lovely. His back story was heartbreaking and society judges him for it. I enjoyed his relationship with his 15 year old daughter, Celeste. I liked how open and honest he was. I liked that he loved Artemis first. I loved that he didn’t have a problem coming to terms with his feelings or apologizing when needed to. He was just a lovely man and a hero I fell in love with.

My struggles were a bit of the pacing – and I really wanted Dominic and Artemis together more than they were. There was a decent amount of them (especially Artemis) doing their own things and not being together. And it was a good 20%+ before they really spent any time together. So I wanted more of that.

I also wanted just a bit more from some of the issues in the book. Celeste ended up just liking Artemis and getting along with her but I felt like their relationship was kind of glazed over especially after Artemis plays a part in Celeste’s removal to the country.

There also was a bit of instalust feel for me with these two because they weren’t spending a ton of time together but when they were, they were very handsy and steamy. Which I am okay with! But, I just lost a bit of that tension because they didn’t know each other super well before wanting each other so badly.

The ending too was a bit much for me. The book had plenty to go on already so this large combination of ending bombshells was not needed for me personally.

Still, I was really intrigued by Bennett’s writing and will definitely be trying more of her novels! It was a great introduction to her work for me.

One sentence summary: A lovely, steamy HR filled with lively, unique characters

This was a fun read with a modern heroine who isn’t interested in getting married. She just wants to found a women’s college. She ends up attracting the attention of a duke whose reputation has been tarnished by the mysterious death of his wife. The connection between the two is entertaining. There are the standard bad guys who are looking to destroy their relationship, but the real block is Artemis’s reluctance to get married. I enjoyed the relationship between Artemis and her friends who also don’t want to get married. It was also enjoyable to read about the relationship between Artemis and the duke’s 15-year-old daughter who is lonely and looking for affection.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

This was my first historical romance and it was so enjoyable! Thank you so much to the publisher for giving me a copy for an honest review.

Artemis is the type of bad ass female character I like to see. She has such a spirit and a forwardness about her. She is intelligent and determined.

Dominic is lost and disconnected. He’s progressive yet gullible and closed minded.

The two have instant chemistry and attraction. I couldn’t stop reading, I loved these two together!

This is a engagement of convenience and it’s so good. It’s a quick read. I can’t wait for the next installment!

Artemis and Dominiic’s story is best read this summer at the beach. It takes you away back to simpler times and takes you on an adventure.

I wanted to be swept away in this book but it fell just short of the mark for me. There was a great amount to like however and I would read this author again as it might just be my current mood. I adored the meet cute. I liked how intelligent and independent Artemis is. I liked her friends and the focus on Gothic romances. I loved the steam. I just wasn’t totally transported by this book and felt at a distance from the romance.

2 🌟’s | oh gosh, i was so excited to read this one after hearing so many others loving it but unfortunately..i did not enjoy my time at all 😭 i was intrigued for a bit but then i wasn’t and it…continued that way for the rest of the book to the point where i was just skimming tbh 😳 it just felt very lackluster and idk if it was because of the length of the book or what cuz goodreads says its only 288 pages but nothing felt super developed enough or like the plot points about the secret author + women’s college went nowhere and was TOO overshadowed by the romance so i got bored super fast. idk, it just didn’t work out the way i wanted it to. i also wish we got to see more of celeste as like a more prominent, engaging character that interacts with artemis in like a positive way instead of artemis taking the side of the governess/hero etc. IDK just a lot didn’t work out for me with this; the way the book was plotted was off & overall, it just fell flat :/

“dartmoor’s titanic truncheon” will remain iconic tho LOL.

📝 tropes: spinster heroine, single parent (widow), secret identity, class difference, engagement of convenience
🌶: 2/5
CW: miscarriage, grief, postpartum depression/mania, violence

Artemis Jones, a teacher at a finishing school and secret Gothic romance writer, gets called back to London to help her friend Lucy navigate the social season after Lucy's father declares she will wed to save the family finances. Hoping to secure an investor for her long-dreamed-of college for ladies, Artemis agrees to help Lucy by diverting would-be suitors to Artemis's sister, Phoebe. However, just as she arrives, Artemis (literally) runs into Dominic Winters, the Duke of Darkmoor, a man long maligned by his brother-in-law and society as a potential murderer of his first wife. But as these things have a way of happening, Artemis and Dominic keep running into each other and soon join forces in an attempt to gain Artemis financial backers for her school and Dominic a better understanding of his fifteen-year-old daughter. Of course, things are not ever so easy, especially when attraction and secrets are involved...

This was a fun read! The chemistry between Artemis and Dominic is present from the very beginning, and while the progression is somewhat precipitous for the Victorian period, it's a historical romance, so what are you gonna do but go along for the ride? While the creative cursing and euphemisms for penises gets old pretty quick, the rest of the storytelling works. The conflicts (and there are a few) in the novel feel mostly realistic, even as Bennett's overall tone is kept pretty light, and they are resolved satisfactorily and without *too* much unnecessary angst. I enjoyed the commentary on 19th century literature and the fact that Artemis and her friends are all unconventional, and I was willing to suspend belief when it came to how people around her reacted to the revelations of Artemis's secrets, even if Dominic's acceptance of her beliefs and goals are more in line with modern sensibilities, because it made the whole thing more fun and the characters more likeable. I look forward to seeing more from this series and seeing what Lucy and Jane get up to in the upcoming sequels!
