I thought this was a fun read and it was a fun retelling of Rapunzel. It did feel like I was sometimes reading teenage angst with the dialogue but I still enjoyed reading it. The romance was obviously fast-paced and not realistic, but it was fun to see it from a different view of the story. I am interested to see what others happen in this series.
“Pink Guitars & Falling Stars” by Leslie O’Sullivan was a clever, original fairy tale retelling of “Rapunzel”, full of whimsy and passionate romance. Loved this book. Highly recommend!
I'm all for fairy tales these days. So, a modern twist with romance is definitely my jam. Our hero, Justin MacKenzie, a rockstar wannabe is not a fan of Zeli, everyone's favourite diva. But his opinion will not last long because the one night they met by accident, Zeli is not at all who he thought she is. And now, let's talk about the writing shall we. The writing is so lyrical, the words are so beautiful almost like it was a historical novel but it's not! I learned many new words I never knew of. Reading Pink Guitars & Falling Stars by Leslie O'Sullivan is like singing a never-ending lyrics. I like everything about this book. So, a five-star review is in order. And oh, look at that cover!
Thanks for the free copy I received.

A lovely light read. An intriguing mix of romance, music and just a small hint of magic and peril. I thought the magic might have featured a bit more but the it was more of an aside than a main thread which was a bit disappointing but overall a good story and characters that drew you in.

This was not the book for me. It never managed to snag my attention. Great concept though.
Pink Guitars and Falling Stars is the first book in the Rockin' Fairy Tales series. It is a Rapunzel retelling and it is glorious. If this is how the series starts, I cannot wait to continue with all the other characters on the Boulevard. They are so much fun!
Zeli (Rapunzel) is the current reigning pop princess in Hollywood and she is completely wrapped in a world of glitz, glammer, and lies. All of her actions including her singing are controlled by her manager. She is unable to use her real voice but instead the autotuned product he prefers. I felt so bad for Zeli. And now her management team is ready to find their next new talent and has started open auditions.
Justin MacKenzie enters the contest. His day job is being a B.A.S.E. jumper but, he has always wanted to be a star. Well that is until he actually gets a hand into it and realizes that not everything is as it appears on the surface. He doesn't understand why someone like Zeli would want to be controlled - until he sees just how locked in a tower she is. Justin feels a strong connection to the woman under the façade and becomes determined he is going to be the one t save her.
Zeli is not a total damsel in distress. She is one that can throw a few punches and come up with a plan of escape. She and Justin make a good team together as well as super cute duet partners. The other characters on the Boulevard become like a chosen family to Zeli and give her inner strength as she realizes she is not alone. She though she owed her manager for helping her succeed but she leans that she owes him nothing for his manipulation and torture.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere that was created throughout this story. The descriptions of the settings painted such a vivid picture in my mind. I could see the music tower that Zeli was locked up in and the stages where she had to preform on. There is a whimsical sense through which kept me smiling, and also on the edge of my seat waiting to see how everything would unfold. It was a truly great musical and fairytale mash up.
Pink Guitars and Falling Stars was a book that I read in one day. I just couldn't put it down! The characters captured my heart, the romance was sweet, and the story was continuously moving so it captured my attention. I look forward to seeing what Leslie O'Sullivan has in store for her next Rockin' Fairy Tale.
Pink Guitars and Falling Stars is a Romeo & Juliet/Rapunzel mashup romance by Leslie O'Sullivan.
Justin is our Romeo, who is aspiring indie musician and B.A.S.E. jumper, and his Juliet is Zeli - the biggest pop star at the moment, with crazy hair extensions and hidden secrets under her harnesses. A stolen kiss between the two changes everything, and Justin finds an artist worth saving from the tower.
For me personally it was a weird story. There were scenes I had hard time to understand. You get to experience secrets of twisted music industry and found family troupe. Writing was a clever mix of poetry and modern words. Although you know how this book would end, it's twisted modernization is something different. It's an entertaining and easy read. It just happened that I was not the right reader for this story. Or my mood was somehow off.
But if you enjoy musical retellings with modern twist and sweet romance - this book is for you.
