'Pablo Picasso' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Teresa Bellon is a biography of the famous artist in the Little People, Big Dreams series.

Pablo Picasso grew up in Malago, Spain. He started drawing before he could talk. He attended art school in Paris and ended up living in Paris to further his art. He dabbled in many different art styles and techniques.

This series is interesting and inspiring. The art this time around is busy and colorful, like the subject it portrays.

Es un libro precioso ideal para todas las edades. Considero que es adecuado para la edad que está dirigida y es súper didáctico. Las docentes tanto de nivel inicial como primario lo pueden utilizar para investigar sobre el autor y trabajar con él

Once again typical of this series you have a short biography of Picasso from birth through the end of his life, hitting all the major points that are happy. His blue period was mentioned, so you do know that Pablo did have sad points in his life but the book covers over many of the bad things. Overall this is a great introduction to kids who know nothing about the artist but as an adult I find it quite a bit boring.

This is part of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series of books for children. This introduces Pablo Picasso to younger children (K-3). I love learning that his first word was pencil and how his family encourages his art with lessons and taking him to great museums. The pictures are stylized and colorful. Little details are playful and will catch children' eyes. I wish some of his real paintings could have been used in the book. (Probably cost prohibitive.) The Guernica in the book looks nothing like his masterpiece in El Prado. This can easily be used in a lesson about the artist and his work. I love the series and can see adding Pablo Picasso to my school library collection. Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review. (4.5 stars)

I absolutely adore the Little People Big Dreams series for kids and am so glad I read the one about Pablo Picasso.
All the illustrations in the series are great, but this one is especially bright and beautiful- it's wonderful to see Picasso's creativity and artistry celebrated in the book's artwork as well as the story.
I really enjoyed hearing about the painter's younger years how his upbringing shaped him into the man he was, and how that informed his artistic style. Kids will love hearing about his creative spirit and learning history in a fun and relatable way.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book.

I absolutely love this series of books for kids. I love giving them as gifts to friends of mine with young kids. I think the art is consistently beautiful. The illustrations are always bright and engaging, and this book about Pablo Picasso is no stranger to that trend. I'm a big fan of Pablo Picasso, so I was excited to read this one. The art inside is interesting and each page tells a story, even without the words. I think the short story it tells about Picasso's life is important for kids to hear because it shows Picasso receiving support in a creative endeavor from his parents and friends. I think that's a great moral for kids and a great perspective for them to learn the basics about a famous and influential painter. Would definitely recommend!

A stunning color palette and illustrations! The story provided real information about the life of Pablo Picasso in an easy to read and just-long-enough telling of Picasso's contributions to the world of art. Perfect for elementary aged kids. It mentioned his most famous works and periods of work, with just enough information adults and children would benefit from reading this.
The timeline at the end of the book would be very useful for teachers and caretakers to use when forming lesson plans or additional activities in regard to Picasso.

“. . . his first word was ‘lapiz,’ which means pencil in Spanish.”

How could I not love the vibrancy and colour of this little book! As well as being a biography of one of the most celebrated artists in the world, it is an absolute treasure for anyone who likes to pick out details and find things.

Pablo Picasso’s father was an art teacher who taught him to use paints. He was only nine when he painted his first painting.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the quotation:
“He was only a kid, but was already a better artist than his dad.”

He went with his father to Spain’s famed El Prado museum. I love these stylised versions of old works.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the quotation:
“Pablo hoped that his paintings would one day be hanging on the walls, next to the work of great Spanish masters like Goya or Velázquez.”

At sixteen, he went to art school in Barcelona, but he had his own ideas of how he wanted to paint. He had a solo exhibition, mixed with other painters and artists, and met his great friend, Carles. He moved to Paris, hoping the art scene there would be more to his liking, but even there they weren’t ready for him.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the quotation:
“Sometimes, he burned his own paintings to keep his room warm.”

Then he received terrible news – Carles had died. He grieved and went into what we now call his Blue Period.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the quotation:
“For a long time, Pablo would only use the color blue in his paintings. It was his way of letting everyone know how sad and lonely he felt after the loss of his friend.”

After two years, he began painting circus and cabaret performers in pinks and reds and oranges. Colour was back on his palette! Next, he and his friend Georges began experimenting by painting things from different angles and putting them all in the same picture.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the quotation:
“Cubism . . . The result was as playful as a little kid’s drawing.”

Next, Georges brought some wallpaper and they began cutting it up to add to paintings and cointed a term for it: Collage.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the quotation:
“It was the first time collage was used in a work of art.”

One of his most famous works, the 1937 anti-war painting, “Guernica”, is discussed here, but there is no attempt to recreate its powerful black and white impact.

There are countless little images of the kinds of things he invented or inspired in these pictures, but the main thing he wanted to do was encourage childhood imagination.

My Goodreads review includes an illustration with the quotation:
“. . . little Pablo never stopped trying to paint like a child. Because all children are artists— we just need to keep believing it once we grow up.”

What’s not to love? Talent and independence and heart and colour. As with the other books in the series, there is a short biography with four black and white photos at the end and reference to other material.

I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
I always look forward to Sanchez Vegara's latest books in this series. Her biographies offer a full look at the person's life using language that elementary level readers can understand. In this volume, readers meet Pablo Picasso as a child and watch as he grows up and continually challenges himself to grow his art. The artwork enhances the story and allows readers to draw clues to his life. For further information, Sanchez Vegara provides a biographical timeline and actual photos of Picasso at the end of the book.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Pablo Picasso I'd one of the newest editions in the Little People Big Dreams series and didn't disappoint. In fact I think I have a new favourite!
The last sentence of the book swung it for me to make it a 5 star review: "because all children are artists we just need to keep believing it once we grow up". Such a beautiful and encouraging line to finish the book with!
This book was very busy within the illustrations with lots for the child reading it to see. The information is bite sized and perfect for little readers and shoes how inspiring Pablo Picasso was and still is. All children need a dream and to be encouraged to chase after their dreams, especially in the crazy world we live in today.

Little People Big Dreams books are always a treat for my daughter and I. We love the stories and the formats. Pablo Picasso's story was really special. My daughter enjoyed the story and the illustrations, and as always I was engaged and learned about the artist as well!
The publisher made this book available for review via netgalley. This is my honest opinion.

I knew of Pablo Picasso, but I never really understood is art or his style, and I can't say I really do now, but I know a bit more. Pablo Picasso was a child prodigy. He was drawing before he talked. As a child, his art outpaced his father's works when he was still quite young. I loved how much his parents supported and encouraged is talent. This book shows his progression as an artist, his friendships and some of the people and places that inspired him. It explained some of the processes he used, the reasons he tried different things and the journey he took to be successful. The illustrations by Teresa Bellon are appealing and colorful. They are active and full of creativity and suit the subject well. The final page in this book tells us why this is such a great series.

"Even though it took him just four years to paint like a master, little Pablo never stopped trying to paint like a child. Because all children are artists -- we just need to keep believing it once we grow up."

Artful and inspiring for young readers, although it omits some of the darker aspects of picasso's history - just because he was a good artist doesnt mean his transgressions should be forgotten/ignored

I absolutely loved this mini-biography of Pablo Picasso! The text is written for younger students to understand and the illustrations (which are beautiful, by the way) actually reflect a lot of Picasso’s style and techniques. I also like that, even though it was a child’s book, many of the biggest events in Picasso’s life are captured. I loved it, and I can’t want to get my hands on a copy for my classroom!

Thank you @netgalley for the ARC e-reader edition of this book!

Believe in yourself and the thing you feel most passionate about, this is artist Pablo Picasso's life motto and message to all of us. His life and education began in Spain where his father taught art, and he later moved to Paris where he learned to express himself in a new and different way of painting. This book is suitable for ESL.
This simple book is enjoyably illustrated by Teresa Bellon in simple colors.
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this book. It gives some nice background about Picasso. I like this Little People Big Dreams series. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

I wish this one focused more on Picasso's broad range of work, but it didn't do a lot in regards to that. I didn't come away with additional insights about his life.

This series introduces the youngest children to many well-known adults and tells their life stories in a simple manner. The illustrations always add to the flavor of the text. The ones included here are very bold and appealing. Each book includes some additional information at the end of the story.

This time, the biography is of one of the most intriguing artists of the modern era. Children will learn that young Pablo’s very first word was pencil and that he was interested in art from a very early age. Kids learn about the reason for Pablo’s Blue Period, his creation of new artistic styles, and his struggles. The story is well told.

I highly recommend this entry in the excellent series. It tells the story of a boy who grew up to be an artist on his own terms.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publish

This is just brilliant! The story of Picasso's life is told in kid-friendly terms that are both interesting and accessible. Beyond basic biographical details, the reader is treated to the story of how his various art styles developed and the effect they had on the world around him. There is a real depth of information while still remaining clear and readable for young students.

And the art! The art! The illustrations are so wonderfully vibrant and lively. Students could get lost for quite a while studying all the intricate details and various styles. This could really inspire a budding art lover and is a must-have for pre-K and elementary school and classroom libraries!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
