I so enjoyed this cozy mystery. While most books in this genre are formulaic, I found #FollowMe for Murder to be modern and interesting. Will recommend to my students.
This book starts off a bit slow, but once Coco begins investigating the murder, it does pick up and become more interesting. Overall a fun mystery if you have some spare time to read.
This one was a little too slow for me. It took forever to get to the murder mystery and the tension didn't really feel high enough. I prefer page turners and this one just was not one for me. Others may enjoy it though.
I really hope that this is a series because I fell in love with the characters in this book from Coco, Charlotte, Jasper and Hudson. This book was a fun and fast read.
Coco made her way early in life with selling a tech company off, but keeping her blog that she had going. As times started changing she got into the social media platforms from Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. She starts a new company to help companies with their social media and help them boost their online profile.
The main client in this book is the Sean and Olivia Chen who are opening a china consignment shop. The Chens are to meet Coco at noon to discuss how they are going to proceed with the opening of their store. When Coco enters the store no one is there so she starts to arrange the lunch for the Chen's arrival. She goes back to the breakroom and discovers a body. Upon inspection she finds out that it is the Chen's assistant Stacy that has been murdered.
In order to clear her client's name and to control the social media of how people handle this news, Coco gets involved in taking it upon herself to investigate. Coco recruits her best friend, Jasper who runs the gossip newspaper and they've been friends since high school, Hudson - Coco's boyfriend and news anchorman for the local TV station, Charlotte - who owns the coffee shop and is dating the crime scene investigator on the case.
It's a fun trip to watch the twists and turns of where their path takes them all.
When I saw this was a new series by Sarah E. Barr I decided to give it a try even though I am mostly unfamiliar with blogs and influencers, etc. What decided it for me was her previous series of four books, The Ducal Detective. Plus, this sounded like a nice change from the usual bake shop, bookshop, craft shop sort of cozy. I'm glad I requested the ARC. Coco is an influencer and her business is as a social media consultant. Turns out there are lots of people (like me) who need help navigating social media to help their businesses. Her first clients, Sean and Olivia Chen, are launching a consignment store and the big day is not far away. Coco arrives at the store and lets herself in and gets a big shock. Stacy, their store clerk, dead on the floor. Sean and Olivia want the crime solved ASAP so that it won't sink their grand opening. Turning to Coco for help - PR clean up - Coco turns to the internet to start her investigating. From there the mystery goes from online to in person when it turns out the Stacy wasn't the person everyone thought she was. Add a couple of close friends and a dishy boyfriend and this was a good start to a cozy series.
The mystery was satisfying with enough to keep me guessing. My only minor complaint? Coco could be a more likable character and her boyfriend could have stayed out of the book altogether. Maybe things will change in the next book. It wasn't annoying enough to make me stop reading or being curious about future books in the series.
My thanks to the publisher Level Best Books and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
First of all, huge thanks to NetGalley and Level Best Books for providing me with an arc in exchange of a honest review. All thoughts are on my own.
This book blew my mind away.
I didn't have high expectations when I started reading it, I was just looking for a fun mystery read, but this book has way more.
We have an influencer as our heroine, someone who uses her privilege to help solve the case and even though at the beginning her motivations were selfish, she got more and more invested in the case.
Funny enough, the actual killer ended up being the most likeable character in the book, and even though we have some clichés here, the author also gives us many new things.
One thing I loved was the heroine letting herself feel jealousy but trying to prioritize communication and remembering herself she didn't have to feel that way towards others, and not only to her love life, but towards their friends and boyfriend around their success.
I also loved the heroine having a healthy relationship with a boyfriend that respects her, gives her her place, loves her and listens to her, sometimes is difficult to find fictional men doing the bare minimum for their significant others.
I'm really looking forward for the next book in this series and hope to like it even more.
This was a fun little mystery. I was in the mood for something light and engaging and I think that hit the spot. I did wonder at first if I was starting in the middle of a series because the characters were kind of introduced like I should already know who they are, but nope, it's the beginning of a series. They're just introduced familiarly.
I don't think this one is particularly memorable and it didn't blow my mind in any way, but it's a fun mystery.
I love thriller novels and I love romance, so I thought this might give me those vibes put together, and I do feel like this hits the mark for a cozy mystery. I only gave this 3 stars instead of anything higher because there were parts of the story that were slow moving for me and I felt like there were parts of the story line that did not move it along. I overall thought the ending was well done and satisfied the mystery, but I felt it slightly came out of the blue.
I really think this could be a promising mystery series. It was a bit of a slow burn but that's not unusual for the first book in a mystery series as the author is trying to really show a broad understanding of that person's daily life and the people around them all at once. I like the idea of her being an Influencer who is offering business consulting and having a boyfriend involved in the local news because it does give a little bit more validity to why she would be able to easily take on the role of internet sleuth and have connections within the community to help her solve this mystery. There were some really nice twists in the mystery itself and I hope going forward that the mysteries will continue to be unique and feature an interesting cast of local characters.
This was a super cute cozy mystery! I loved so many of the characters which made it super adorable! I rated this one 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4 on here.
I have been searching for a good mystery book but I'm very picky when it comes to what kind of mystery. This book has certainly delivered. It was exactly what I was looking for. It's got the murder mystery, but also has so much more. I like the main character and the fact that she is an influencer and PR guru because isn't that what we are surrounded by these days?! She is extremely likeable and I want to live in this cute beachy town. Overall it was an easy lighthearted read but with a bit of a thrill. My favorite kind of mystery book!
I was really intrigued by the premise of this book, but I struggled to get into it. Part of the problem for me was the main character, Coco. Unlike a lot of cozy mysteries where the main character is a librarian, or a baker, etc., the social media aspect didn't appeal to me when I started reading.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Coco Cline is an influencer and blogger. She has her own consulting firm for Public Relations. Her clients, the Chens, as opening a consignment shop and she is helping them with the launch. However, the launch is put to a stop when Coco stumbles across their newly hired clerk, Stacy, dead behind the counter. Worried about the business launch, the Chens encourage Coco to work with the police in finding the murderer.
This book was so engaging. The plot really kept me going and I could not put the book down once I got into it. It was a fast and easy read, a little scary because of the anticipation, but that's what kept it thrilling. It was very predictable for me, since I guessed who did within the first few chapters.
I love cozy mysteries, and this book fit the bill for me! I enjoyed reading about Coco, and the fact that she was an influencer put an interesting spin on the book. I look forward to reading other books from this author.

Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 Stars
Book Review:
Tw: murder (obviously), infertility, cheating, & miscarriage discussed during this book.
I loved the premise of a cozy murder mystery… I didn’t think a murder mystery could be cozy, but this is probably as close as you could get to it…
I really liked the premise of the social media influencer being involved and trying to figure out the “who dunnit” question that was lurking after she found a body while working as a social media consultant for a new local business.
I figured out the killer in advance of the reveal and did a little air fist bump to myself for figuring it out ahead of the reveal. I liked the mild twists and turns and side stories to keep it light and from being a creepy- keep you on your toes thriller as that wasn’t the intent of this one (I do love that though, but respect that that wasn’t the intent of this book as set forth by the author)
I’d definitely read follow up stories in this series as I did enjoy the lightless and not feeling as though I needed to keep and eye out while reading it home alone! I can say for certain I’ll be able to sleep just fine tonight after this light mystery.
#qotd Do you like to figure out the reveal before it happens in thrillers/mysteries or do you prefer to be surprised/slapped in the face with the answer?
Thank you NetGalley and Level Best Books for the ARC of this book! Thoughts expressed in this review are my honest thoughts and mine alone.
I enjoyed the story but it hasn’t blown me away. I really did like the idea of an influencer also being an amateur sleuth, it’s definitely different from, let’s say, a bookshop owner. But in the end Coco was a bit too self-centered for my liking. A lot of her actions were only because she could also benefit from it. She sometimes did seem too realize this but she didn’t do anything to prevent it from happening again. As for the plot, I did want to know who was the murderer and while I didn’t see the reveal coming, it didn’t give me the major plot twist vibes either.
If you enjoy whodunnit mysteries but want something lighthearted and modern, you'll enjoy #FollowMe for Murder! This cute book has a modern twist on the time-old murder mystery by using social media to help solve the crime. Coco Cline is a marketing guru and social media influencer whose clients, Sean and Olivia Chen, are hoping can make their grand opening of their new shop a huge success. Just a few days before the grand opening, though, the Chen's assistant Stacy is found murdered in their shop. Now their place of business is a crime scene and they are considered suspects so they turn to Coco for help managing this PR disaster. Coco rises to the challenge and offers solid advice, yet the Chens have a hard time following said advice. It's understandable -- their livelihood is on the line after all -- but is there some reason why Olivia Chen keeps debating Coco on how and when they should open the store?
Coco decides to learn more about the Chen's assistant, Stacy, to see if she can help push the police investigation along more quickly. What she begins to uncover from her social media sleuthing and interviews with friends of the deceased, tells a very different story than information the police have gathered on Stacy.
With her friends help, Coco continues to dig into Stacy's life for possible suspects. Will she solve the murder and bring justice for Stacy? Will the Chen's be able to save their business? How will social media play into this all?
A delightful, quick read for the beach or the bathtub!
What a wonderful book. I so enjoyed every moment of it and I loved Coco. Really hoping there is another book!
There's a lot of potential in this series and I appreciated the start of the book and the premises. Unfortunately i wasn't a huge fan of Coco as I found her a bit too juvenile and a bit too reckless.
I want to read the next book, this one was not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
