Another entertaining entry in this series, I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I'm just glad Prue finally got her HEA after suffering so much in the past three books!
Thank you Net Galley and Avon for the Arc. This is the fourth boob in The Mating of Scoundrels series and can be read as a. Stand alone.
Vivienne Lorre is an author I been wanting to read for awhile. So glad this arc gave me the chance to do so.I loved this story of Prudence and Leo. I rate the story at 4.5 stars.
Prudence is a ruined women ostracized by society but also look upon as a show pony for their entertainment. She decides to go after an inheritance taken away from her but trying to do it thru not so ethical measures. Leo is a man who moves from mistress to mistress thinking he has nothing else to give people because he think he has no heart. When Prudence hits a snag on her mission she goes to Leo who offered to help her before and tries to get his help now. So they go into a deal but end up finding exactly what they didn’t know they needed all along.
Highlight for me in this story was Prudence and Leo as Individual characters as well as a couple. I love how Prudence while trying to get a the life she thinks she wants is so concern about other whether that be Leo or her friends. Also love how even after being shun by society she tries to hold her head high in front of them. Leo may think he has no heart but I when it comes out it’s so special. Of course that heart shines for Pru the most. Also I found Leo to be one of the most charming characters I have ever read. Their story together was something I had a fondness for. Love the concept of this one as well. The story having these two come together to try and get her inheritance back and connect in the process intrigued me. I wish we had more of it. That and some parts dragging where the only things I wasn’t a fan of. But overall I love this book. Love Lorret’s character writing in this and can’t wait for Meg’s book. I already own the other books in this series and can’t wait to get to the, as well.
This is my first book by Vivienne Lorret and while it is the 4th book of the series it can be read as a stand alone. It had it's good points, I liked Prue and Savage but the story didn't have a constant flow. Some things seemed really drawn out and others went by in a blink. The missing inheritance items sounded like a great premise, but then seemed to take a back seat to everything in the second half of the book.
Plot: The premise of this one was really unique, and I quite liked Prue's misadventures at the beginning trying to (unsuccessfully) get back the items that were rightfully hers, and eventually having to seek Leo's help. And while the plot was fun, the relationship between Prue and Leo was truly the best part of the book for me!
Characters: I thought Prue was an absolutely fantastic main character! My heart broke for her and everything she had been through, and I loved reading about her gaining more confidence in herself. Leo fell for her so quickly, even though it took him quite awhile to realize that. (Leo and the clocks were hilarious, you'll know what I mean after you read the book!) And I liked all the supporting characters, particularly Prue's friends and Leo's butler.
The Cover: I like it!
Overall: I absolutely loved this book, and I highly recommend it to any fans of Historical Romances!
I received an e-ARC from the publisher.
Prudence Thorogood is a young English woman of the nobility. Unfortunately she has been banished to the countryside by her heartless family because of an incident a year ago. Why, they even took her inheritance and gave it all away! Pru has decided she is going to take matters into her own hands, go to London, retrieve what's hers, take charge of her life and simply live as she sees fit. Quite a brave plan for a young woman with absolutely no resources.
Unfortunately it's not as easy as she thought it might be and she has problems from the beginning of her journey.
One problem, involving sheep and stormy weather, is solved for her by notorious rake, Leo Ramsgate, Marquess of Savage. Leo, who offers Pru a ride into town and is struck by her tale, develops has a curious desire to know her better. So Leo makes her an offer, a decidedly scandalous one.
Pru must decide if taking the offer will benefit her or not.
She has a lovely group of friends who help her in London, but she doesn't wish to be the albatross around their collective necks, and Leo IS rather attractive.
This is a wonderful story from start to finish, the kind that compels the reader to read " just one more chapter" but instead keeps them enthralled for hours.
The characters are colorful and sometimes quirky, the plot is interesting and the romance has heat.
I highly recommend it.
I received "How to Steal a Scoundrel's Heart" from Netgalley and voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This might be the first full length novel I have read by Vivienne Lorret, and it definitely won't be the only, or last one. This is the first book in The Mating Habits of Scoundrels series, and I am already looking forward ro the next story.
Prudence Thorogood is completely down and out of her luck when she agrees to become
Leopold Ramsgate, Marquess of Savage's mistress. In her unending and disappointing quest to find her deceased mother's personal possessions, she asks Savage for help but he agrees only if she assents to become his mistress for four months, at the end of which, Prue will have all her possessions and Savage will move on to his next mistress. This is a slow sensual romance zwooing at it's optimal and seduction exemplified. A beautiful story of hope and finding one's heart.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC! This book was enjoyable, and not the typical lady and lord romance, which was nice! I really enjoyed how the hero changed and realized his errors along the way.
I absolutely loved this book. It was my first time reading a mistress trope that the heroine actually played a part in orchestrating and Vivienne Lorret executed it so well. I loved Lord Savage wit and charm as well as Prue's resilience to gain back what was rightfully hers. I enjoyed watching their relationship blossom from banter, to attraction and finally love. All in all this was a delightful read.
Soo..... I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Vivienne Lorret has quickly become an auto-buy author and I can't wait for this book to be released so I can add it to my collection.
Prue and Savages' story left me with that happy heartwarming feeling that I get when I read a really good historical romance. They meet strictly by chance, and afterward can't seem to stop thinking about each other.. which only becomes worse as they happen to meet again and again... When Prue decides to take him up on his offer to have an affiar, they strike a mutually benificial agrement.. He will help her get back all her heirlooms that were sold off by her dispicable father and stepmother, and Savage will get 4 months with her... Hopefully that will be enough to get her out of his system.. (we know it wont be)
Of course feelings begin to bloom between them.. and I loved watching them slowly and surprisingly.. to them.. fall in love.. I also liked how the plot designed by an old friend who had already betrayed Savage didn't go on for to long.. Leo realized what an idiot he had been, after a timely intervention by a friend and someone pretty surprising and raced off to find his lady... I also loved how in the end everything kind of came full circle with the sheephearding dog...I may have laughed out loud ( youll see what i mean when you read it)
I love all of this side characters and how no matter the decision that Prue had decided to make they were going to stand by her choices... and after the snippet we got for the next book I am SO EXCITED to read Megs story..
Ruined beyond all prospects, all Miss Thorogood wants to do is commit some light larceny to regain the items from her inheritance. After running into Lord Savage, a notorious rake, whilst in the mud, they make an acquaintance. A month later, Miss Thorogood shows up at his door, ready to be made his mistress - if only so she can have his assistance in acquiring her family heirlooms. This tender, sweet, and bitingly funny marriage of convenience story was delightful and fresh. I really loved seeing how Leo (Lord Savage) and Prue (Miss Thorogood) slowly opened up to one another. Having the bad guys get their just desserts was utterly delightful as well.
Loved this book and all the others in this series. I am definitely going to go back and reread them all. Lord Savage was so charismatic with a witty since of humor. I loved his interactions with Prue. Prue was such a strong heroine just what Lord Savage needed. She rocked his world and I loved every page of it! Seeing his inner thoughts as he viewed her made me fall in love with him. I am so glad he got his story after being introduced to him in The Rogue to Ruin. Leo is a swoon worthy hero!
I adored this book! Vivienne Lorret is fantastic! Such a unique and fun plot. Our heroine has lot her inheritance and she is trying to steal it all back, literally! She is full of disguises and mischief to reclaim her previous belongings. When she is caught by the hero, the Marquess of Savage, they enter into an interesting agreement. He will help her get back her inheritance, if she gives herself to him. So so fun and romantic. I highly recommend everything by this author!
Let me start this off by saying that I love every Vivienne Lorret novel I read. But there was just something about Prue and Leo's story that makes them stand out as my favorites (so far, anyway). Prue is a strong, witty, sweet woman who has had more than her share of trials in life. Although these adversities have left their mark on her (namely by making her more guarded), she still manages to be brave and decides to forge ahead with the goal of living the life she wants, regardless of what others think. Leo also has a troubled past, which is why he closely guards his heart (even outright stating that he doesn't have one), but Prue amuses him, challenges him, and burrows under his skin without him even realizing. They are wonderful together and I found myself rooting for them to find their happily ever after. And the way they met? Perfect for their relationship! I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to Net Galley, Avon and Harper Voyager, and Vivienne Lorret for this ARC!
5⭐️
Would recommend if you like
✅Bridgerton vibes - the two MC don't like each other at first but come into an agreement to help one another
✅man who claims he can't love a woman / a woman who doesn't trust men
✅marriage of conveinence/contracts involved
✅all the spice 🌶🥵
I really enjoyed this book although it took me awhile to finish it. I was such a fan of Prue who was determined to take back her inheritance after her family disowned her because her "virtue" was gone. However to the rescue comes our Marquess scoundrel, Leo, who wants to help Prue out because of his honor... not because he's smitten with her. 🙄 He even becomes obsessed with checking his pocket watch and getting all the clocks in his house fixed because time is passing too quickly the more he spends time with her. Overall, a solid read and very definitely worth the read especially if you like The Duke and I by Julia Quinn.
This was my first read by Vivienne Lorret and definitely will not be my last!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager pub for this earc!
I LOVED everything about this book. It’s definitely been a while since I’ve read a historical romance that just stole my heart
The relationship between Leo and Prue was just perfectly written. I love how after Prue came to Leo and agreed to be his mistress, Leo spent all that time trying to make her as comfortable with him as possible. How he let her experience what a pleasure could be before anything else. It was adorable to see how he was falling in love with her without realizing what was happening and how pure her feeling were as well
The pace of this book was so beautifully done and the build up and the heat was absolutely HOT. I was on the edge of my sit the whole first half of the book waiting for them to kiss again.
And of course the villains of the story had to mess with Leo and Prue’s happiness but I really liked the fact that it didn’t take long to resolve the misunderstanding. Until Leo got scared and ran away.
But again, I would live through that pain again with Prue just to read this wonderful ending.
This book is an absolutely GEM!
Prudence was a ruined debutante with a family that did not care about her at all. She was very independent and just wanted some old heirlooms of her mothers returned to her. They were given away by her family and all she wanted was to get them back along with a house that was supposed to be hers. She intended to live a quiet life in the county. She also felt she was bringing her friends trouble since she was ruined and talked about by the ton. She thought going away to live one her own would solve everything. Until she meets Leo, Lord Savage and he is smitten with her. He makes her an offer to help her with getting the things she wants back if she will become his mistress for 4 months. That is his limit to any relationships he has. He does not have a heart. Well, Pru wormed her way into his for sure. This book was so well written and I really enjoyed the relationship between Prudence and Leo and how it developed. There was also a villain to add to the drama. This was my first read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I will looking for more of her books. I received an ARC and all opinions are my own. Thank you NG for the opportunity to review. I loved this book and will read again!!
Already a huge fan of Vivienne Lorret I was stoked to get an ARC of the next book in the matchmaking series. Prue and Leo are just delectable. Total good girl/bad boy trope that I absolutely love. How to Steal a Scoundrel's Heart was a great addition to the series, but can still be read as a stand alone. If you have never read anything by Vivienne Lorret, start now! She's one of the best historical romance writers!
A hardened rake slowly falls for a brave woman who’s been ostracised by society. He’s captivated by her, as she isn’t awestruck by him. She’s willing to sacrifice to gain her independence, It’s a good historical.
Vivienne Lorret is one of a small handful of regency romance writers who can craft the perfectly lovable, but also perfectly roguish hero. How To Steal A Scoundrel’s Heart is the story of what starts as a mutually beneficial, friends with benefits, arrangement, but quickly morphs into a more meaningful relationship. While fairly predictable, the plot is charming, H-O-T, and the writing is engaging. Highly recommend.
I recieved an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Lady Prudence Thorogood is no longer a respectable lady, but an outcast and social pariah because of an indiscretion with a shameless rogue. She has lost her family, her inheritance, and even the ability to maintain her friendships. Lord Savage has no heart or say he says after he was betrayed by the only woman he has ever loved. It's because of this betrayel that he only keeps mistresses for four months, and requires them to sign a binding contract. Once Savage meets Prue, he knows he has to have her, but she isn't like most ladies of his acquaintance. She doesn't care about his money or what he can give her. She needs him to help steal back her inheritance that has been gambled away by her awful stepmother. She knows he isn't a saint, but is he really as devilish as they all say?
Man, I feel like I've been waiting so long for this book. It was worth the wait! I've been struggling so much to read or stay interested in anything that I moved this book to the top of my pile because Vivienne's books always make me smile. I found this to be very cheeky and pretty funny. These two never had a shortage of quick remarks back to each other. They had a lot of fun with each other in a few different ways, wink wink, and I just let myself sit back and enjoy the ride (no pun intended). I honestly wasn't totally sold on Leo in the beginning, and kept thinking how I loved Brandon from the previous book more, but the longer I read the more I started to adore Leo. He is fiercely loyal and loving. He protects Prue and treats her with the utmost respect even given her situation. He is funny and sarcastic, and possesses a quick wit that will make you fall a little bit in love with him yourself.
This is another great installment in the series, and I am glad there is going to be another book. I feel like I'll be a little sad when this series is over, but Vivienne always likes to sneak her characters in later books so I'm sure we will see them all again.
