This book has been a great listening experience. Thanks to the author and the publisher for bringing this book to life.
Catching up on reviews so... Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for access to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
I honestly wish I would have had a book version of this, not the audiobook. I used to be intrigued by astrology but never fully dove into it but I've listened to a lot of people talk about it and listening to the audiobook made it feel like those conversations and I zoned out a lot. Perhaps I need to be more interested in Astrology, or, if I wasn't listening to it but reading it instead I think I may have enjoyed it more and paid attention. It also felt directed at a certain audience that is maybe more into learning astrology from social media with specific lingo.
Overall, I don't think this was for me.
I have always been interested in Astrology, and I am a believer. I enjoyed this one. It is great for beginners like me!
This is a great little book, which is an introduction to basic astrology. I found it fascinating, and I was engrossed in it throughout. The audiobook narrator was lovely, and I liked her voice, which sounded uplifting and happy. The information in the book is suitable for beginners, or as a refresher for more experienced astrology students. The information was set out in an ordered way, which was great to listen to, and I found it all very fun and relaxing. Although I learned a lot from the book, it didn't feel like I was studying, since the book was so easy to listen to. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in star signs, planets and the basics of astrology.
Many thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Sanctuary is an app that I use frequently so when I saw they had a book about astrology, I was so happy about it !
It was also one of my first experiences with listening to audiobooks and what a pleasant surprise. I really liked the narrator's voice.
This book was alos a nice introduction to the world of astrology and I took so many note along the way.
I would highly reccomend this to anyone who's a newbie in astrology !
We've gotten a lot of requests recently for more astrology books. I love how easy but detailed this book is. The narrator is expressive and grabs your interest right away. I never felt my interest drifting, and I loved how fast it moved through information. A great starter book!
This is a fun and basic intro to astrology. I would definitely recommend it to people who want a basis for astrology and prefer audiobooks.
Three words to describe this book: Virgo. Capricorn. Aquarius.
What’s Your Sign is written by the popular app, Sanctuary Astrology and provides a beginner guide for astrology. (If you’re not familiar with the app and you like astrology, check it out. I know I’ve used it to look up my moon and rising to impress a cute girl!) The book goes over the basics of astrology, understanding your star chart – including breakdowns of the planets and the rotations, description of the signs, and a fascinating chapter on how horoscopes are written.
The audio features a new-to-me narrator – Jorjeana Marie who reads the book like a best friend explaining things to you. She’s funny and relatable and made listening to the book easy. I think this material could easily become dull, but she kept it lively and engaging.
I think this topic area could get dull quickly going through the signs but the way this was written made it interesting and fascinating. For example, do you know about planetary returns? This is when a planet returns to the same position it was during the time of someone’s birth – marking a new chapter in their life. This year marks the return of Pluto – the first in 248 years! So, this year should kick of a new part of our lives.
Another interesting fact is that planets move through the signs. Some planets orbit the sun faster – do this more frequently whereas planet with slower orbits is far less frequent. Many of those that are born in the Millennium generation were born when Pluto was in Scorpio. The last time this happened in history was between 1736-1747, a time when many leaders in the US Revolutionary War and the writing of the Constitution were born (same for the French Revolution!) There’s some astrological truth about our generation being special.
My only complaint about this audio is that some of the sections were hard to follow as there were tables or references in the text. I’d recommend following along with a print or Kindle version to have a comprehensive experience. I’m going to be picking up a print copy because it sounds like it has a lot of fun illustrations!
If you want to learn more about astrology, this book is a great place to start!
ARC was provided to me by Andrew McMeel Audio, in exchange for an honest review.
This book is excellently written and described but I just couldn't get into it when reading. I normally like this genre however it is not my favourite. For someone who loves this genre, you would love this book without a doubt.
This fun, short audiobook provides a general overview for astrology. The narrator does an excellent job of light heartedly narrating the audiobook. The astrological explanations are simple, straight forward and relatable. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to gain a basic understanding of astrology.
This was a very good and comprehensive intro to astrology however it is probably better in actual book format as opposed to audio book. They talk about different sign combinations, break downs of what certain signs mean, etc and it was very hard to follow on audio. I would be driving and was tempted to pull over a few times to take notes! I am still giving 4 stars since it is very informative.
As an audiobook, this book is fine. However, as the narrator of the book points out - there are certain aspects of this book that can only be utilized when read in print format.
This is exactly what the title states it is - a guide - a beginners guide to astrology. I particularly like the fact that it was made clear from the start of the book that this book is about the western zodiac and astrology. They make mention of some of the other types of astrology and different types of zodiacs, but they make it clear that other sources are needed if the reader wants to learn about these other zodiacs. The narrator also mentions the different types of astrology and how many different iterations that the field of astrology has gone through over the centuries.
If you are interested in astrology at all, this is an excellent overview guide to the Zodiac and provides a lot of information in regards to each sign and how to interpret them. Absolutely recommend this book.
This was a really cool book! I'm interested in astrology and this book provides a fun and easy way to read about your astrological chart. If you're interested in diving into more than just your newspaper horoscope, this is a great place to start! Thanks to the publisher for sending me this advanced copy to review.
First of all, I love the Sanctuary Astrology app and their Instagram, so I was very excited about this book! Imagine my excitement when I saw it was available on NetGalley!
I listened to both the audio (this version) and read the ebook. I found that the audio version worked well for the first part of the book in which astrological terms and concepts are explained. I found it a bit more challenging to navigate the second part of the book which dives into sign-specific information because I had to navigate around to find the parts that address my specific sign. Since this is a reference book, audio does pose some challenges because it’s not meant to be read front to back, and an audio listener misses out on the visuals.
I also read the ebook version and was very pleased with it. For a person who requires audio, I think the audio will serve its purpose, but for the person (like me) who wants to get the full visual experience, I recommend the ebook.
Overall, this book was clear and well-organized. Fun and interesting information is given throughout the book that anyone can understand. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about astrology and how to apply it to their life!
I received an advanced copy of this audiobook from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This audiobook is well read and informative. This was a enjoyable listening experience. If you are interested in learning more about your astrological signs this is the audiobook for you. It is a interesting audiobook. The narrator did a good job reading this book. This audiobook is in stores for $19.99 (USD).
I listened to this book via a NetGalley audio option and absolutely loved it. The narrator was pleasant to listen to and she added some liveliness to the reading. I learned about how the houses are ordered, something that I had previously been confused about. The information on the rising signs and moon signs was enlightening. I would highly recommend this audiobook. This is a good book for people who are fairly new to astrology and covers some basics that are usually not covered because the assumption is we already know it. I liked the audiobook so much I am going to purchase the book for reference. I have already recommended the book to a couple of online groups. Check it out if you get a chance.
I have done a lot of astrology training prior to listening to the What’s Your Sign audiobook, but the book still kept me entertained and provided me interesting explanations that I hadn’t come across. While the information was familiar, it was presented in a current and entertaining way. The different points were explained clearly which is important while presenting so much information. This is a great resource for those both new to astrology and those with former experience.
Humans have been looking to the stars for millennia. From the daily horoscope in the newspaper to custom birth charts, there is a wide array of information available to one interested in astrology. I received a copy of the audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for this honest review.
This book is easy to listen to; the narrator has a melodic voice that is calming to the soul. This book is an excellent foundation for astrology and what the stars can tell us about ourselves. There is a lot of good information; however, it was hard for me to retain without the physical text in front of me. The audio is a great companion for the book, and I recommend purchasing it.
What's Your Sign?: A Guide to Astrology for the Cosmically Curious from Sanctuary Astrology is a great primer for beginner astro-enthusiasts or a great refresher for those more practiced. I loved the deep dive into the planets and signs. I've never read an astrology book with my ears before, so it was fun to realize that I enjoyed that. I took a lot of notes and had a fun time reigniting my passion for astrology. Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the free audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Prior to reading this book I loved the idea of astrology, but knew little about it. After reading this book, I love the idea of astrology and know a little something about. What's Your Sign? went into more detail than I anticipated in explaining the influence of different planets, houses, signs, etc. Am I an expert at astrology after reading this book? No. Do I actually understand what it means when people say Mercury is in retrograde? Kind of, certainly better than I did before reading. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this book, but it definitely had some drawbacks for me.
Pros: This book was packed full of information that you did not need much background knowledge to access. While it probably would have been helpful to know at least a little bit about astrology going in, this book introduced concepts at a relatively basic level before expanding and giving more detail. Once it gave more detail it really gave detail certainly surpassing what I anticipated, but I found the information enjoyable and can confidently say that I learned something from this book.
Cons: Listening to the audiobook of this was not the ideal format for me to engage with this content. I ended up downloading the Sanctuary app so that I could follow along with what was being discussed and if I had been working from the audiobook alone I would have found this to be an incredibly challenging book. There were moments when a Bingo board would be read out or a visual described and I wished I had a physical text in front of me. While having a ton of information was a positive at times it also felt overwhelming and navigating through an audiobook to revisit information is much more difficult for me personally than an actual text.
