This is a lovely children's book for young children aged 4-8. It is about a young boy and his dragon who are looking at what happens on St Patrick's day, where a lot of things are green and good luck is abundant. The book has short sentences and beautiful illustrations which describe words such as traffic light, park, wind, up, mother, cupcakes father, green tie and dear dragon. My daughter and I loved this book, and I highly recommend it.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a brilliant, simple but engaging level 4 reading. I find these books much more interesting than the books that my nine year old learnt to read with. Five stars ⭐
When selecting the book, I was already somewhat biased as I have Irish roots and I love dragons.
Cute illustrations, adorable story.
Was hoping to keep this until 17 March to read it but I couldn't help myself...
And an extra star just cos...
Wonderful book for readers beginning to read!

A unique St Patrick's Day story focusing on the holiday color (green), a boy, and his pet dragon. Love the reading guides: perfect for young children just learning to read on their own. Illustrations are fun and engaging and bound to draw in any kid.
It's all about the green and the long e. A confident learn to read book about St. Patrick's day with Dragon. Common sight words start each book with a picture glossary. It is a great series of books.
A special thank you to Norwood Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This is yet another great children's book that teaches children about holidays. This one teaches about St. Patrick's Day and how many people celebrate it. This book also teaches about the color green. Thank you, NetGalley for the e-book in exchange for an honest review.
Another fun Dear Dragon book bringing us the St. Patrick's holiday. We enjoy St. Patrick's Day and it is just a few months away. It was a great read to remind my son how fun St. Patrick's Day is. We followed along with the simple sentences and the very green illustrations. Another great book for beginner readers from a great series!
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
What an exciting time, learning all about the color green and new words. These little books are like tiny jewels that glitter and kids love glitter.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
St. Patrick's Day with Dear Dragon by Marla Conn is a book in the Dear Dragon series for developing readers. According to the synopsis, the book is about "when a boy and his pet dragon celebrate St. Patrick's day... They see green cupcakes, a lucky rainbow and more." The sentences themselves are simple, which makes sense, since this book is for a Level D reader. I did notice that the sentences are more natural-sounding and more complex than the sentences in the Level A and B books, but to be honest, it seemed the same as the Level C book I read from this series. I took off 1 star, because I found the pictures somewhat lacking. Some children's books are read over and over, because children adore the illustrations. Unfortunately, you won't find that here.
As a teacher, I liked that there is a picture dictionary at the beginning of this book in a section called "words in this book." I also liked common sight words (without pictures) were included. Often, when introducing vocabulary books, we focus on words that have pictures and forget about words like "a," "it," and "the." I also liked the activity pages at the end of the book, which include "word word" (identifying words with a certain phonics sound) and "activity" (brainstorming and a graphic organizer). Those are definitely useful activities that will help kids academically. If you're looking for a book for a Level D reader, I recommend that you check out this series, which is available now!
"Saint Patrick's Day with Dear Dragon" by Marla Conn is a Level D reader. It is for a little more advanced beginning reader. It has repeated sequenced words in a basic story developed to increase the child's confidence in reading. The book is written in a pattern of language that helps the reader learn vocabulary.
The illustrations by David Schimmell are bright, colorful and make it easier for the reader to figure out the words. The activities section for children at the end of the book reinforces skills the student is learning. This book is a very sweet story and I highly recommend this reading series.
Thank you NetGalley and Norwood House Press. It is a honor to review this book!
