Great characters, good banter. Just a bit long and slow paced. Athena returns home to work on a book to help save her job. Surprised by her ex living now in town and owner of the cafe she’s working in part time
Cute but predictable. I figured things out too quickly and wasn't impressed with the characters and their development.
I received this book for free from netgalley for an honest review.
Really well thought-out book with amazing characters and excellent setting. Love the cover
It was a good book and really enjoyed it all and rooted for this couple to make it. Love it all. read it today you will not be disappointed.
I enjoyed this romcom and found it a cute romp. Well written, I liked the Bronte angle, and the side characters were well fleshed out (the mark of a good romcom in my opinion!)
I liked this book it was fun and easy going. With that said if I had to choose between buying this book and others I’m not sure this would be my first pick while I liked that it was low stakes I usually go for books that pack more action.
Loved the premise of the book and the references to classic literature. Loved some of the banter but had a hard time connecting with the characters and thought it was a bit too long. Could have been the mood I was in - I wanted to love it so much but it just didn't click for me.
Overall, this book was a good debut. The cute pug on the cover definitely made me want to pick it up to read it. I did feel like it took a while for the main characters to address their feelings so if you are in need of a slow burn book with not a whole lot of spice this book is for you.
The main characters' relationship is messy enough to be interesting. Althena is annoying at times but relatable, but Thorne comes across as too perfect; a few chinks in his armor wouldn't have hurt, but still love his character arc of finding his true self. Their chemistry is decent but surprisingly mild, given a certain someone's side hustle.
I liked that every character had a little secret and that each character had the space to find love, fulfillment, hope, understanding, and connection. The Bronte connection is uninteresting, and a bit overdone, but the LitWit Series has promise, and I hope it comes to fruition (if it hasn't already). Predictable, but in a good way, and I enjoyed the expected and wished for HEA.
3.5 stars
This book was a light, fluffy rom-com. I didn’t always love the writing style or dynamic between the protagonist and her love interest, but it was a fun and easy read with, as expected, a happy ending. I also loved and appreciated the repeated references to the Brontë’s works; I can safely say they inspired me to add a reread of Wuthering Heights to my TBR for this year. All in all, this was a quick, mostly lighthearted romance with a literary twist.
This was a cute rom com that follows Athena a teacher who has to publish a book about mysterious erotica author who no one knows her identity. While Athena is trying to save her job she goes back to her small hometown and get a job at her ex fiancé Thorns cafe. While researching which local may be this mysterious author Athena and Thorn start to reunite. This was a cute story and the writing was fun and fast paced. I will say Thorn was not my favorite character which left me kind of meh about the romance. This romance contained second chance romance and small town vibes troupes and I enjoyed they were done in this story. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. I would like to thank net galley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.
Thank you for the ARC. I thought this book had a cute cover and a cute premise. It was a little difficult for me to get into this book. But I thought it was sweet.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I was hooked from the description of the book but unfortunately, I had to push myself to finish this one as the execution didn't hit for me.
A second chance romance that has the small town charm and just a bit of spice!
I'm going to be honest with this one, it wasn't my absolute favorite, but I wouldn't say it wasn't good. Athena Murphy is a uni prof and a Bronte sister aficionado (hi! it's me!!). She is tasked with writing a book about an author who takes classics and makes them into spicy romances, or she is fired. I knew this going in, and it may have been why I didn't love it, but I just find the idea a bit over the top.
She goes back to her hometown and runs into her ex-boyfriend Thorn. She gets swept away by all things local small town, creating book clubs and creating yet again a connection with Thorn.
I enjoyed this one as much as any other book, but I did feel like it was a bit boring after the 1/2 way mark. The idea like I said isn't one I would gravitate to, but it was executed pretty well.
I'm not going to say don't pick this up because if you are like me and love classic lit it's a cute read that is an ode to those old stories. But I wouldn't tell you you need to read this right now. 3.5/5
Thanks to netgalley and Annie Sereno's team for providing me with an ARC.
As a lover of classical literature, the Bronte sisters, and rom-coms, this book was right up my alley. I'll look for more from Annie Sereno after reading Blame it on the Brontes.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.
This book seemed like it had a cute premise. Unfortunately, I could not finish the book. The story did not keep me captivated.
This book had a lot of good things going for it. As a second chance romance, I loved this story. Small town vibes and great nods to classic literature and the world of academia. While mainly closed door in nature, there were some mild angsty moments.
Wow! This book is SO GOOD! It is romantic, sweet, clever, witty, and so much more! Whenever I picked up "Blame It on the Brontes", I found myself simply unable to put this book down!
This is the first book I have read by Annie Sereno, and it certainly will not be my last! Her writing style is full of so much heart that I was instantly pulled into the story from the very first page. Her characters feel like such real people: their wants, needs, desires, and fears are crystal clear. Furthermore, her love and respect for the work of the Brontë's is so palpable.
This book is a third-chance-romance, as well as a small-town romance! Athena wants to write a biography of the author C.L.Gorland, an author who is retelling classical literature stories. But, first, she must find out who the author really is! To search and write the book, Athena returns to her hometown, and soon is working with her ex-boyfriend Thorne. As the two begin to spend more time together, their feelings begin to change and deepen: from friendship to something more. Will they be each-other's happily ever after? You will just have to read to find out!
I loved the Brontë quotes, as well as the many nods to their works throughout as well. In many ways, this book felt like a book for literature lovers!
If you enjoy contemporary romance, I highly recommend this book! I can't wait to read what Annie Sereno writes next!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of this book, and to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for sending me a physical copy as well! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I really enjoyed this second chance romance between Athena and Thorne! I loved all of the secondary characters in this book too! Between the bachelor farmers, Finn and Mario, Charles and Vivienne, Lydia and Ricki and all the others, I was laughing my ass off! I also enjoyed the Brontë sister quotes. I’d definitely recommend this one!
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A cute cover. A fun women's fiction romance novel.
