Great book. I enjoyed Reading it. The characters and plot were interesting life like and easy to connect with.
This is the first book in the D’Angelo’s series - get to know this crazy Italian American family, and their friends. Luca is the chef in the family restaurant and single father to a precocious little girl named Frannie. Brooke is looking for an apartment in San Diego, and gets an offer she can’t refuse to rent an apartment over the restaurant…which puts her right in the middle of this family, and their Sunday dinners! She can’t help but get close with them all…
Fall in love with this family, and start off with this one, but don’t stop there - there are 3 more great stories to enjoy!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley; all opinions are my own.
This book is one of Ms Bybee’s best. The writing is so raw, so passionate and oh so engrossing. Enough that a reader —well this reader — could imagine walking in the characters shoes. Feeling and experiencing everything they’re going through within the story and what they’ve been through in their pasts.
The main characters are well-written, strong, likeable and made this story a great read. Right from the start I couldn’t wait to read more about the hero and heroine. The heroine’s POV took me on such a roller coaster of emotion because she’s taking so much on. Still, she does well the way she handles the path her life has taken. While the hero, he was good for the heroine in the way he took the weight of the world off her shoulders and helped her through the tough moments.
Overall, Ms Bybee really delivered with this story and I can’t wait to read more of this series.
I have read some of Catherine Bybee books. I had to put this down. Was kinda boring, dragged and I couldn’t relate as myself or from others. I hope future books are better.
This was a lovely easy feel good read with adorable characters. A little slow for me in places but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. An absolute must for all Bybee fans!
Thank you Netgalley.
I received this book for free from netgalley for an honest opinion
Interesting concept. It did keep my attention and I did like the ending.
I have never read a book by Catherine Bybee before but I know When It Falls Apart won’t be my last. It pulled me in from the start and I didn't want to put it down.
Brooke is alone in a new city doing her best to help her father adjust to his new assisted living facility. She is loving and giving. Luca is a handsome, protective single dad of Franny. I appreciated that most of the challenges Brooke and Luca faced were realistic situations that the reader can relate to. Both of them are amazing people who communicate maturely and openly. I couldn't help routing for their HEA.
I loved Luca, Brooke and Franny and the entire D’Angelo family. I highly recommend this wonderful, warm romance. I cannot wait to read the next in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

For me, Catherine Bybee's books are an automatic read. I really enjoy her writing style, her characters, and all of her books that I've read so far. When it Falls Apart is no exception. This is the first book of a new series surrounding the DiAngelo family of San Diego. They are a close-knit Italian family living and running a restaurant in the Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego. This book follows the story of Luca and Brooke. Luca is the patriarch of the family since his father passed and takes his role very seriously. Luca is also a single father to Frannie. Brooke and Luca meet while Brooke is going through some big life changes. Of course Luca steps in and helps her navigate them, even though he may be uninvited. I really enjoyed the way their relationship developed and played out throughout the book. I love the characters in this book, and Luca is simply swoon-worthy. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!
Brooke and Luca are the most amazing couple! I am more of a fan of Luca though. His character is strong and family oriented. The Italian aspect of this series really catches me in the heart. They are loud and vivacious and always there for each other. The next book is Gio and he has always been in the background but does make his presence known. What a great book!
I absolutely adore Catherine Bybee and she never seems to disappoint me. This time around we have Luca D’Angelo and all of the D'Angelo family, as well as Brooke Turner. I adored the D'Angelo family and can't wait for more. I loved Luca and Brook together. The chemistry was well done and their bond and how they helped each evolve and grow together.
I can't wait for more from this author and this series.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. A good women's fiction romance novel. Highly recommend
I read this novel in a weekend and put all other plans on hold that is how good this novel is! I really enjoyed reading about the cast of characters and the plot unfolded in a clear and logical way. I really enjoyed reading this book and will definitely be looking to read more from this author.
I am a fan of Catherine Bybee’s books, well worth taking a couple of hoursto devour this charming story!
The main characters are very relatable and perfect for each other, as they come to realize. Brooke is feeling the pressure of taking care of her father, and learning to lean on her friends.
When Brooke meets Luca, she finds out that family and friends are there for her. Its a gray
storyline that keeps your interest, another great series to enjoy! .
Wow this was an incredible book and I can't believe it took me so long to pick it up. I really loved all of the characters and how well they handled everything that came their way. I found them to all be loveable and realistic and Franny was just the cutest ever. The romance between Brooke and Luca happened fast but felt natural and not rushed and the way they supported each other was really lovely to read. I may also be a bit biased but as someone who works in the emergency department of a hospital I enjoyed that the author has clearly either worked in the field or done a ton of research to make those parts of the book close to real life, especially the small quip about it being a slow day when the triage area was full of patients.
5/5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this copy to review.
This is one of the best books of Catherine Bybee's I've read and you'll fall in love with Brooke and Luca. And the fact that it was scripted based on Catherine's life experiences, alone is a definite read.
Do not miss this read.
Heartfelt story of being loved and wanted. Big Italian family, family values and taking in one in as their own
Brooke manages (or tries to manage) her elder father. She has issues of how he cares for himself, his diet, lack of care for his living space, his gruffness, health and overall mess of a life. Thing is, Brooke didn't have him in her life while growing up. Problem is Brooke is all he has to help him through the rest of his life. Brooke can't turn her back on him.
Interestingly, for a bit, this part of the story allowed me to find humor in my own life with my elder father. Right down to the hidden jars of coin. I could definitely relate to the angst Brooke felt when the phone would ring or when just trying to manage it all.
Brooke moves them closer to each other. Him in an assisted living and Brooke in a small fourth floor apartment above an Italian restaurant.
There she meets Luca. He is a single father and chef in the family business. He has his hands full being a single dad and feeling responsible for his mother and siblings livelihood. He also hasn't been able to stop thinking about Brooke.
I had recognition with Brooke and her elder father. Then Brooke living in the same building as Italians and their restaurant brought me home again. I grew up next to Italian neighbors with a restaurant. This was more than fiction to me. I understood the angst of being the only one trying to do best for an elderly father. But then it brought smiles remembering the lives and love of my Italian neighbors.
This was a simple story. An easy to read fictitiously real life story. If life isn't messy we haven't lived it. This story shows different aspects of love, how it can flow, how it can stall and how it can dissipate. All very easily written. Nothing spectacular, but just a nice life story.
After starting this one, I realized it wasn’t my style- I really wish NetGalley had some kind of preview option so I didn’t have to leave half reviews like this one…
I am a fan of Catherine Bybee’s books, well worth taking a lazy Sunday to devour!
The main characters are relatable and perfect for each other, as they come to realise. I love the easy reading style of this author’s books, it feels like you’re a part of the story!
Brooke is feeling the pressure of caring for her father, moving on from an unsupportive partner and learning to lean on her friends.
When Brooke meets Luca, she soon finds that family and friends are there for her. It’s lovely joining with Brooke and Luca on their romantic journey and hot chemistry!
A wonderful storyline that keeps your interest, another great series to enjoy! .
