I've read C.L. Pauwels's previous work, so I was especially excited to read this "prequel" and learn about a young Jadz. I'm excited to say that Pauwels did not disappoint. The story follows Toni Horvath, who, like many of us, feels alone in this world. At thirty, she's still trying to find human connection in the form of family. When a felon gets in contact with her promising he can help find that family she's after, that when things go south. I'm not one for spoilers, but just know that if you're into books where things aren't quite what they seem, then this book is for you. I also enjoyed the characters. It's clear once again that Pauwels did her research and brought to life authentic, believable circumstances and characters. Well done!
