Another excellent edition to a wonderful series! Full of twists and turns that leaves you wanting more and enjoying each moment until the end when the killer is caught!

Love this series and the relationships with the women. It’s the secrets that brought each of them together, with their pain, pasts, and heartbreak — and in each new book those relationships are developed more, while always having just enough mystery to add a new bit of intrigue and growth for each character. Nora and McCabe — love their friendship and…

This is the fifth title in this series. I have enjoyed (and reviewed) all of them. These (pretty much) cozy mysteries will hearken to bibliophiles and to those who enjoy stories of female friendships that are honest and built upon trust. The mysteries are also an integral part of the novels.

This time the friends have a lot going on. Hester is getting engaged. Why have many copies of The Scarlet Letter had her name cut out of them, that name she shares with Miss Prynne? Who is the dead body below a cliff? What is the significance of a series of books about women that are old and have flowers in their titles?

Along with these goings on, spend time (at least in imagination) eating book pockets, drinking hot chocolate and browsing the wonderful shelves of Miracle Books. Any reader could make a wish list from the book titles that make their appearance in this title.

I already look forward to the next time that I get to visit with Hester, June, Nora and Estella, and those around them. These include employee Sheldon, character’s children and the women’s romantic interests.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for this title. All opinions are my own.

What’s not to love?……a budding romance, female bonding, heartache, murder, food, compassion, and books, books, books! Ellery Adams sets the bar high with all her series. She is just amazing! Thanks to #NetGalley and #TheVanishingType for an advanced digital copy.

The problem with waiting until the end, to tie up all the parts of the book, is that it comes across as rushed and all the pieces don’t fit together. For most of the book, the premise of the mystery didn’t make sense to me. While following along with the ladies, I couldn’t understand why would Nora and McCabe wasted time tracking down the remaining books of the Lady Artist series when there would be online copies of the covers. Wouldn’t they, along with Bobbie (who was dropped like a hot potato when she fulfilled her purpose), be able to find those covers and see the clue? This kept distracting me throughout my reading. Then again, with a made-up book series, Ellery Adams can also make up the inability to find what they are looking for.

This is a slow meandering story that breaks off into minor tangents involving others in the community, but they are only slight distractions and do not carry the strength of their own narratives no matter how hard the author tries.

The premise of this book is flimsy at best and I was disappointed since I have enjoyed so many of Ellery Adam’s previous books – namely the Book Retreat Mysteries.

Ellery Adams has done it again. First, any book with a focus on books will immediately draw me in, but this keeps you hooked with the lovely and strong friendships, romance, and of course at the center of it all a cozy mystery. It was so much fun to learn and discover along with Nora and I can't wait to read more books in this series.

4/5 Stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books, Kensington Cozies for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

While this series still remains one of my favorite cozies, I felt this particular book didn’t quite measure up to the other 5 stars in the series. There were elements I continued to love: the setting, the characters (loved the scenes with Bobby in this book!), and general element of comfort. However, there were two small elements I didn’t quite care for. The first was the turn towards McCabe as a love interest. I know, there were hints to this in earlier books and Jed did leave town, but I was hoping Nora would have to some time to reflect as a single woman for a little bit. It felt like I had to not only accept Jed leaving the series, but also the end of McCabe and Nora’s friendship. When all of the other characters kept talking about McCabe obviously having feelings for Nora, it felt like the relationship they had built up as friends was just McCabe trying to earn romance points. The second element I didn’t enjoy as much was the introduction of Hester’s older brother. I thought I was remembering things wrong when they started to discuss him because I remembered Hester having a YOUNGER brother. I looked back at the first book and that was the case. He even serves an important part of Hester’s story as he gives her a peanut butter cup which later becomes the flavor of her comfort scone. In that Book #1 scene Hester mentions her and her brother weren’t close after she had to move out.. In this most recent book, she has an obnoxious older brother who was a jock and is painfully misogynistic. I thought maybe the older brother was an edition to Hester’s family- that she now had two brothers- but later Adams shows that they were the only two siblings. It might have been something the editor missed, but if not, I really don’t see any reason they had to change the character into Hester’s older brother. In the first book, Hester already told us that her brother changed, and frankly it’s a sad but believable fact that the same sweet brother who gave her candy could have grown into a rude and horrible man. Lots of terrible men were someone’s cute, younger brother. Both of these elements along with how easy I felt the whodunnit was outweighed the good parts that would have given the book a full 5 stars.

Each time a book from this series releases, I devour it and wait anxiously for the next one. I am struck with joy all over again when the book title dropping begins and I recognized some of my favorites. The relationships among the women are as deep and heartfelt as ever. Sisterhoods like these are the stuff of dreams for sure.

A couple negatives for me: there is a bit of plot manipulation in places, and the backstory of the mystery becomes more complicated that I would prefer. Both feel somewhat overworked.

The book in its entirety is another good addition to a superb series. Thank you to Ellery Adams, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another visit to Miracle Springs and it was so enjoyable.

In this fifth installment, we meet up with the members of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society, and some unusual events happening in Miracle Springs. Several copies of The Scarlet Letter have been destroyed and several books in a series have been showing up around town. How does this connect to Nora, June, Hester, and Estella?

An unknown man is discovered dead in the woods with one of the books in the mysterious series in his pocket. A young woman who is a nanny for a well-known family is run off the road and injured. Are these events related to the books found destroyed?

Slowly, a secret Hester shared with her friends comes out and with it Hester's life is at risk. How do all of the events happening in Miracle Springs connect and will the newly-engaged Hester be okay?

I love every visit to Miracle Springs. Not only do I love the characters, but I also love the various books mentioned throughout each installment in the series. The way these friends love and support each other is wonderful.. They share in sorrows, rejoice in each others' good news, and want nothing but the best for each other. I also love how they also help solve the mysteries in each novel. Each visit to Miracle Springs is like a hug and I am already looking forward to the next one in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley, Kensington Books, and Ellery Adams. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I love these women. They’re so friendly and welcoming that you feel like you’re one of their friends. They’re so real and supportive of each other. This series is cozy and comfy; you never want to leave Miracle Springs even if there is a murder or two occasionally. The mystery itself was well paced and left me guessing until the very end. I love the inclusion of the Lady Artist books, which I didn’t know about but want to learn more. I highly recommend this series for when you want an engrossing read, a good story, or a warm hug.

I’ve been listening to this series through my library and was so excited when the fifth became available. Book four ended on a bit of a cliff hanger, which was addressed in an early chapter in The Vanishing Type. The mystery was one that involved Hester, and since there are four women in the series, each book has focused more on one each time. Side stories including Nora’s romance and another person’s illness, kept the story plot moving so there was more than the main murder.

Can’t wait for book six!

I received an advance copy from NetGalley and have offered an objective review.

Another fantastic addition to the Secret, Book, & Scone Society series, this time with a little more of a literary connection. I love how the mystery is connected to book cover art and draws in a whole new section of bibliophiles... those who do judge books by their covers!

Ellery Adams is a master and this series has been such an enjoyable trip!

The Vanishing Type is book 5 of the Secret, Book and Scone Society series. This series has to be one of the best cozy series published today. There is so much to like about this book - it it not only a great mystery, but it touches the reader in so many other ways.

The book's main characters form a sisterhood of support - each having their own scars from the past, yet they've come together as a 'family' of support, stronger together than apart. Nora owns Miracle Books and runs the store with her employee Sheldon, practicing her bibliotherapy and helping anyone who comes into the book store in need. Along with Nora, friends June, Estella and Hester comprise the Secret, Book and Scone Society, regularly meeting at the book store for a book group, to solve the latest problem one of them faces, or to discuss someone else's needs. Their relationship certainly makes the reader envious!

In The Vanishing Type, Jasper Andrews, Hester's boyfriend, asks for Nora's help in planning a unique proposal to girlfriend Hester. Unfortunately the murder of a hiker keeps Andrews occupied, but greatly upsets Hester when she discovers the identity of the hiker, risking revealing secrets from Hester's pasts she would like to remain there. The identity of the killed hiker is one of the many surprises this book holds - the twists and turns are as numerous as the clues and red herrings. The book will keep you guessing until the end, however there were a few clues that leads the reader to suspect who the killer might be, but the reason for the crime is not know until the very end.

In addition to a wonderful mystery the reader discovers many books for recommended reading, as well as unique, carefully chosen and thought-provoking quotes at the start of each chapter. It is full of well-described, tempting food descriptions, making you want to seek out the recipe to make these dishes for yourself.

Be prepared to lose yourself in the book and want to read it in one setting, however do not succumb to this temptation as you will have longer to wait until book 6 is released! Ms. Adams please write faster!

The Vanishing Type by Ellery Adams is another in the Secret, Book, and Scone Society mystery series. Sometimes it is difficult for a woman to recover from past trauma. Sometimes it takes time, or friends, acceptance, or a man. Sometimes, there is not reason, it just happens. This story is about someone who never recovered, but not until many years later. She had given away her baby and it haunted her. It turns out it was all about money. Seems some folks never can get enough of it, no matter what it takes.

This lovely series is filled with interesting characters, all of whom are flawed, some physically. When a person gets older, their body lets them down. Also, what they find attractive changes. That is the magic of this book. These people are still happy. They have found things that make them happy and it gives the rest of us hope. They have been hurt but have recovered. Their lives are good and full. It is exciting. The lead up to the story spanned generations. May be it's a good thing people move around a lot nowadays. What a good book!

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of The Vanishing Type by Kensington, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #kensington # elleryadams #thevanishingytpe

Wow. Just wow.

I have been waiting for Hester's story for awhile now and now that we have finally arrived there, this story did not disappoint. In fact, this book had me entranced from page one and didn't stop until the book ended. I was up to 3am last night finishing it and I will tell you, there was anxiety, book-gripping and a lot of ugly ugly crying going on. In fact, most of this book really had me in tears and filled with emotions I didn't expect.

IF you have read the previous books, you know the roller-coaster ride they can take you on. IF this is your first outing into the world of Nora, Estella, June, and Hester, stop what you are doing and go and read the other 4 books before diving into this one and THEN jump in with both feet. This is one series where it is better to start with book one and absorb all the stories as they unfold. You will have a better reading experience that way. Also, these are books where it is best to go in with as little knowledge as possible so everything unfolds organically and you can feel ALLLLLLL the feels [and trust me, there will be feels to be felt here]. I am glad I knew nothing about this book; any previous knowledge would have ruined some of the magic and beauty of this read.

There is only one thing I will say about this book [and it something that I shared with the bestie who reads these as well] and that is: try and NOT read this while reading other heavy books. This is not your typical light-hearted cozy [though there are absolutely moments of laughter and hilarity] and touches on some pretty heavy themes. I was really glad I didn't have a ton of heavy books going alongside of this one so I could just dive in and absorb and be a part of the story and not be [too] overwhelmed.

SUCH an excellent read. This is my favorite series and I will forever love Miracle Springs and the women who inhabit that space. Fantastic.

Ellery Adams continues the Secret, Book, and Scone Society mysteries with The Vanishing Type. Nora Pennington , owner of Miracle Books, is concerned after a murder and mysterious events seem aimed at Hester, her friend, who is newly engaged to Deputy Andrews. Miracle Springs is set for another murder investigation and Nora is in the center. Read and enjoy.

This is the fifth book in the Secret Book and Scone Society. Nora, Estella, June and Hester continue to meet to discuss books and help other members of the community. Deputy Andrews asks Hester to marry him. She does indeed say yes, but then the problems begin. We learn more about Hester’s secret in this one.

I really loved this one. I found the clues in the book covers a fascinating bit. I absolutely love Sheldon. I think he is one of my favorite characters ever in a cozy mystery. I don’t think there are a lot of ace characters in books and much less in cozy mysteries. Kudos to Ellery Adams for having this representation.

I read a lot of cozy mysteries but I do not buy a lot for my shelves, but this one I am going to buy for my collection. I recommend this series. I have enjoyed all of the books in the series. This is one of my favorites. I gave this book four point five stars. If you haven’t read this series yet, start it now.

Mild mannered Hester’s past and future are about to collide, but the ladies of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society are there for support; physically, emotionally, and especially sleuthaly (yes, I know that is not a real word, but it sounds good). Who was the guy in the jacket and how does he figure into this tale? Who vandalized the Hawthorne novels, and could it be the same person who did away with the visitor in orange? What does an aunt, an author, and some curious and flowerful early edition books all have in common? How has it taken so long for Nora and the Sheriff to realize that just maybe…All these questions and many more are all answered in this latest Magic Springs located mystery. BTW did you notice how pretty in pink accents this new book cover is!! Oh, and if you’re nice, I bet you too can get the recipe for the infamous blueberry & lemon comfort scones, perfect for pairing with this book.

This is the 5th installment in the Secret, Book and Scone Society series. This is one of my favorites in the series. Nora Pennington runs Miracle Books in Miracle Springs North Carolina and has built herself a group of tremendous friends and co-workers. It is January and the group is really starting to feel the funk of winter but Deputy Jasper Andrews comes into the book store looking for some assistance on how to propose to his girlfriend Hester who is one of Nora’s best friends. Nora gets the group together (Estella, Hester, and June) for book club after Hester leaves the three ladies brainstorm some ideas to give to Andrews. The ladies put together an idea of Andrews proposing at a “pre-opening” of a vintage theater playing Little Women which is Hester’s favorite movie. The proposal is perfect but Nora is getting “spidey” senses on her damaged finger that something is going on after she finds a stack of the Scarlett Letter damaged with the name Hester gouged out. She begins to worry that something is about to happen. Also, Sheriff McCabe (Grant) and Nora are beginning to realize their friendship might be more. Hester has yet to tell her fiancé her “secret” from her past and is afraid to tell him yet circumstances that start to pile up mandate that she will eventually have to do that. First when Nora is on a hike, she discovers EMT workers and the Sheriff at the scene of a dead body of a man no one recognizes. Then mysteries books start to appear at Hester’s bakery, a box of books that Nora purchased from a local Mom and on the body of the dead man. How can this all be related? Estella also has her issues as her boyfriend Jack ends up in the hospital in critical condition. This book is so special because of the wonderful characters the author has created. I love the friendship of these 4 ladies as well as Sheldon who works for Nora, they are just amazing. After a valentine’s event at the store and another body is found of a woman who was wearing a jacket just like Hester it is apparent that she is a target of this killer. It of course pertains to her secret but don’t want to reveal that here. Just love this series and finished this book in record time. Highly recommend this book and series. The next book cannot come out soon enough for me.
