It's always a hit or miss with this series. This one was a hit and I enjoyed the story, had fun, and liked the solid mystery.
It is improving and going back to high level of the first book.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Having read Lynn Cahoon's début novel (book one) in her Kitchen Witch mystery series and 'Two Wicked Desserts', the second full instalment, as well as her short novella, 'Have a Holly, Haunted Christmas', I grabbed the chance to read this, Three Tainted Teas, the third full instalment.
I got to meet kitchen witch Mia Malone who is the owner of Mia's Morsels, in book one, 'One Poison Pie'. In this novel, Three Tainted Teas, Mia's business is thriving and she has accepted an eleventh-hour job as the wedding planner for Amethyst and Tok's wedding in Magic Springs, Idaho, but the respective families do not get along and somebody dies.
All of the characters are amusing, relatable, and many have a good rapport with one other. In Magic Springs, Idaho, ghosts, warlocks and the paranormal are welcomed. I really enjoyed this compelling story and I continue to find Mia endearing and caring. Mia's boyfriend, Trent, is also a witch though he is non-practising and their relationship is growing. The writing is smooth, the plot strong and comfortably paced, and the puzzling mystery kept me guessing. All in all, a fabulous instalment with a few possibilities and the characters added humour and variety. I will certainly be returning to Palm Springs to see what Mia and her mates are getting up to next time.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
While this was an improvement on the previous instalment, it still wasn’t as enjoyable as the first book was.
The mystery itself was pretty good in this book but it’s lacking the fun, charm and heart from when the series first started.
As much as I enjoyed the first book, I don’t think I’ll be continuing this series.
Three Tainted Teas is the third book in The Kitchen Witch Mysteries series by Lynn Cahoon.
Mia Malone steps in at the last minute to take over as a wedding planner on a wedding between members of two feuding families. When the fired wedding planner is found dead, is Mia next?
This is a fun series. Mia and her family and friends are wonderful characters and we get to see more of Trent’s mom. The murder mystery was interesting since the police weren’t investigating the potential supernatural side of things. I look forward to seeing what happens next for Mia and her friends.
Thank you to the author, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mia had her hands really full this time having to step in as a wedding planner (she couldn't refuse the huge payment she was being offered, who could?) then become a person of interest in a murder.
When Christina's character was first introduced, I sure never expected to like her as much as I do! She's just the best when it comes to Mia and the business as well as being a good friend to her. Like Mia, I dread the day when she's out of culinary school and possibly ready to move on. Or hopefully Mia's business might do so well, she'll be able to entice her stay.
Trent's mom, Abigail's such a great character! I enjoyed learning more about her and having her in the storyline a lot more than usual. She really saved the day when it came to the wedding cake, and I'm looking forward to her maybe being someone Gran can hang out with. And it sure never hurts for Mia to get to know and work with her sweetie's mom! ;)
The takedown of the perp was a crazy one! I hadn't suspected whodunit at first, but the closer it got to the end, I started wondering about this person. As long as Mia picks and chooses her weddings carefully, maybe she really should go into planning weddings for the extra income, who knows? I'm always eager to read the next book and see what new adventures Mia and her friends/crew get into.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.
Three Tainted Teas is the third book in Lynn Cahoon's Kitchen Witch Mystery series. I enjoy a nice witchy cozy and in this addition to the series, shifters are added to the world of Magic Springs, so I think this books series is now officially a paranormal cozy series. While there are plenty of cozies that have a witch and her cat and a coven or two. Not too many cozies expand into a more fulsome paranormal world. I enjoy paranormal so I was pleased with the additional magical creatures in this book.
I enjoy that Mia views all of the different magical folk as all the same species at the end of the day. This is a good perspective, she also adheres to a strong set of core beliefs that cause her to think before using her magical skills..unlike some of the spells first ask questions later witches and warlocks around her.
In this book, weddings are on everyone's minds including Trent and Mia. Trent seems ready to make a larger commitment to Mia and I for one, can't wait for her to catch up to his view of their potential future! Mia is a planner and an organizer and while some readers might find it a little boring to read about her planning the day-to-day, this reader finds it very relaxing to read. Plus all the yummy food talk, it's a nice balance. Murdery stuff/party planning/food talk!
4 Starts to #ThreeTaintedTeas Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC!
You can get this book on Tuesday, April 26th!
Three Tainted Teas by Lynn Cahoon is the third book in the paranormal Kitchen Witch Mysteries series. Magic Springs, Idaho, is home to witches, warlocks, and shape-shifters. Mia Malone, a Kitchen Witch, turned amateur sleuth, is still learning about her powers from her Gran. And she recently started a catering business and cooking school (in an enchanted building.) At the last minute, Mia is hired as a replacement wedding planner for the town's own supernatural Romeo and Juliet, a shifter and a witch from feuding families. But, someone wants to stop this wedding. When the original wedding planner is murdered, Mia and the crew have more to worry about than cakes and flowers, as the next target could be Mia.
I'm a long-time fan of Cahoon and her writing. She's reliably good, and this book was no exception. Her characters are likable, slightly quirky, and well-developed. I especially liked Mia and Gran. The premise is interesting, and the plotting is solid. It keeps you guessing as there is a big suspect pool and a few red herrings. The addition of magical occurrences lent more layers to complicate the mystery.
I have not read the previous books in this series. While it wasn't a problem to jump in here, I will be going back to read the earlier books because I missed some world-building. I'm really looking forward to book four, as this is a series I'll be sticking with. I can't wait to see where Cahoon takes us as clues are dripping about the school building, the coven, and the town. An enjoyable and charming cozy with a touch of magic! Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to review this ARC. All opinions are my own.
I’ve been reading the Kitchen Witch Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon since the release of One Poison Pie. Since I like the world that has been created, I decided to continue the series with Three Tainted Teas.
Business has been booming for caterer Mia Malone, and she’s looking forward to a nice little break from work. But then the opportunity to jump into the role of a wedding planner after the previous planner was fired, well, the money is too good to pass up. However, this wedding isn’t just any wedding, but the union of a prominent witch family and an ultra-powerful shifter family—and nothing is going to be easy—especially when the former wedding planner is found dead.
Let’s start with what I liked about Three Tainted Teas. I enjoyed the introduction of shifters into this magical world. So far, Mia really only knows about witches, and she’s surprised to know there are other magical beings out there. I also like the continued development of Mia and Trent’s relationship and the growth of Mia’s business. The whole wedding planner aspect was interesting, and I’m curious how much event planning will get woven into the series in the future. There also seems to be a bit more magic actually performed during this story, which would be expected considering the main character is a witch. Although, that magic is generally done by those around Mia.
What I felt was the weak point of the story? The murder mystery. It almost felt as if it was a secondary plot to the wedding planning and world-building. The murder happened, but there really wasn’t much investigating, and other than this threat to the wedding and Mia, it also wasn’t really discussed. And then, all of a sudden, the mystery was solved with no real work done by anyone. It was lackluster at best.
I enjoyed Three Tainted Teas. It didn’t have the strongest mystery, but the character development and world-building that occurred during the book made it a 4-star read for me. I would not recommend this as an introduction to the series, but it is a nice continuation for those who have read the previous books.
I look forward to returning to visit Magic Springs and Mia again in the future.
In Magic Springs, the magic is literally magic. And Mia Malone, a kitchen witch as well as caterer, makes the move into wedding planning to step in on a wedding happening the following weekend. The previous planner was fired and then turns up murdered. Someone doesn't want the wedding to take place. Can Mia keep this magical wedding on track? Fun and light paranormal cozy.
I received a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a fun book!! I like that Mia was branching out into planning, albeit accidentally. The expanding supernatural in town is interesting as well- will they come up again? Will they generally be ‘around’ but not really in the stories to come? I also enjoy seeing Christina grow and expand as well- it might be fun to see her do more in future stories as well. I will definitely be waiting for the next one!
Another really good outing in this "witchy" series - I will say that each book has consistently gotten better and I am fully invested in this series now. I really like Mia, her grandmother, Christina, and Trent and Levi and the supporting cast is always really good as well. What started as a not-so-great series is now one of my favorites and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
I really have to admire Christina in this story - she is not a witch, but accepts those around her with an open and accepting mind. She has never blinked at the face of all the crazy going on around her and in this book she is introduced to even more magic and she just dives in with grace and accepting and does her best. May we all be like Christina in our daily walk with others that are different than we are.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lynn Cahoon, and Kensington Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 3rd book in the series, but I have not read the first two and was able to enjoy it as a standalone. Lynn Cahoon's writing style was enjoyable and engaging. Casual, but kept the story moving and interesting. Per the book description, Mia is a witch in a town accepting of magic and the paranormal. Don’t let that deter you from this cozy mystery. The supernatural elements are not overwhelming and enhance the storyline.
A quick read, I was able to and interested enough to keep with this book and finish within a few days of casual reading.
As a standalone, Cahoon brought me up to speed of the established characters and the how and why the are at this point in the story. I will be going back and reading the earlier books in the series. She has peaked my interest to learn more detail and keep up with this series.
Semi-spoilerish.........
I don’t understand the title in regards to the story. At least not untill the end when the teahouse comes into play. (Obviously a precurser to the next book in the series.) Three as far as the number of books, but tainted teas doesn’t seem to be a part of the wedding and mystery.
I also would have enjoyed more details behind the antagonists and why they did murder Chelsea and wreak havoc on the wedding planning. I felt this should have been explained in some more detail than the quick conversations that took place in the next to last chapter. Especially when they were obviously suspected by the family and the coven. There is enough of a setup that more may be revealed as the series continues.
A generous thank you to Net Galley and Kensington Books for allowing me to read this title before release in exchange for an honest review.
Three Tainted Teas " is the 3rd instalment in the "Kitchen Witch" Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. I LOVE this series, just the perfect amount of magic and mystery. Aspiring witch and culinary entrepreneur, Mia Malone, must dispel a deadly plot to wreck her clients’ wedding
I love visiting Magic Springs, Idaho and catching up with Mia, Grans and Christina! I also enjoyed getting to know more about Trent’s mum Abigail and hope to see her more in future instalments. I love the sense of caring and encouragement that the main characters have for each other and the community. This is something I enjoy in all the authors series.
I found the mystery very interesting as well as entertaining, full of twists and turns that kept me guessing till the very end. I can’t wait to learn more about the schools past and see what happens next for Mia and her friends in book 4.
I highly recommend this new series to all my cozy loving friends.
I requested and received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington Books and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my OWN.
Mia Malone is in food service, and is asked to step in as a wedding coordinator when the previous one is fired.
The wedding is a big deal as the bride and groom are from two different sectors of the magical world, and there has been an ongoing feud between the two clans for decades.
Pro's:
This was an entertaining story,
It has a solid plotline and developed characters.
Con's:
While it was an enjoyable story,
I would recommend that this series be read in order as the
the storyline brought about as many questions about what
happened in the previous books as it did answers
for the current story.
It's a clean read and has a story sense of family in it.
Three Tainted Teas is the latest addition to The Kitchen Witch Series. I love this series and I devoured this book in one day. Mia and her crew are so much fun and the mystery was extremely entertaining.. The author ended this story with a hint of what their next adventure will be and I can't wait to find out.
This is such an enjoyable series! The characters are realistic (even though many of them are magical) and so interesting. The mystery is well done as always, but the relationships are what makes the series so good. There is so much caring, support and encouragement built into those relationships. I enjoyed having Trent’s mom Abigail having a bigger role in this book. The teaser at the end sets up the next installment! Mia is getting a reputation as the caterer who solves mysteries, whether she wants it or not. I’m already looking forward to the next mystery!
I am always tentative about approaching a new series by and author who books I love, but by this 3rd full novel in the Kitchen Witch Mysteries all the books and excellent novellas are a must buy and an-if-I-can-get-my-hands-on-an-ARC-I-am-thrilled series. As a personal reviewer I am pretty late on the list, but I MADE IT. Yes, I will buy a copy, too! This series is a definite reread and Three Tainted Teas is the perfect example of the reason Lynn Cahoon's books are regular rereads for me. Mia Malone is intelligent, fun, and kind-hearted so naturally she draws people who her that I can love. We got to spend more time with Abigail whom I already enjoyed, and I had been hoping for that.
The mystery revolves around a wedding, and we actually get to be part of the preparation as well as part of the discussion about a murder who may be trying to stop that wedding. Mia does less actual sleuthing that usual but that is fine with me. She was much too busy making sure this, her first experience as a wedding planner, went all well. LOVED IT.
My thanks to NetGalley and Kensington, for allowing me to read and review the ARC to the delightful tale.

Three Tainted Teas by Lynn Cahoon is a spirited tale. I enjoy visiting Magic Springs to catch up with Mia, Christine, Grans, and the other characters. There is a great cast of characters in this series. They are warm, friendly people who are slightly quirky. Mia Malone is a kitchen witch who has taken an old school building and turned it into her home plus the base of Mia Morsel’s, her catering business. In Three Tainted Teas, Mia is asked to become a wedding planner at the last minute for the nuptials of Amethyst and Tok. Mia is soon glad that she charged double her normal fee when meets the combatting families. It turns out that Tok’s family are shifters. Neither family is happy with the union. When Chelsea, the former wedding planner, is found dead in her room, it is obvious someone wants to stop the nuptials. Mia has no intention of letting that happen despite controlling parents, manipulations, and threats. Three Tainted Teas is the third book in The Kitchen Witch Mysteries. It can be read as a standalone, but I believe it is better to read in order (or at least read One Poison Pie). It will allow you to get to know the characters and the history of the school. I like Lynn Cahoon’s writing style. It is lighthearted and casual (makes for good reading). The characters are like old friends. I picked up Three Tainted Teas and finished it within a few hours. I like the humor sprinkled throughout the story and I love the paranormal elements. The whodunit has a large suspect pool since many of the guests and family members do not want the couple to wed. There are clues to help readers solve the crime as well as misdirection. There are threats and sabotage that leaves Mia scared but determined to make sure the wedding takes place. I thought the murder was a snap to solve, but I kept reading to see what would happen next (to see if this wedding would occur or not). There is a hint at the end of what will occur in the next A Kitchen Witch Mystery. Three Tainted Teas is a howling good time with a fly-by-night friend, wedding planning woes, a departed planner, feuding families, terrorizing threats, a battling book, mouthwatering meals, and one fatigued kitchen witch.
This is the second book I’ve read in the series, and I am really enjoying them. In this latest, Mia is roped into doing a wedding when the original wedding planner is killed. In between planning the wedding, dodging a flirty groomsman, and being guarded, Mia tries to find a killer. I think this book was well-written and fun, but there are times where I wish we could have a little more detail about the characters and the school where Mia lives and works. I’d just like to be able to visualize the school more. However, that’s just a tiny gripe, and I really enjoyed this latest addition to the series. I really like all the characters, and this author’s writing so I’m definitely going to check out the next one. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Three Tainted Teas is the 3rd novel in the Kitchen Witch Mysteries written by Lynn Cahoon. This is the fourth or fifth series I've begun reading by the cozy mystery author and all have been superb. In this collection, Mia Malone has innate witchcraft talents but her grandmother must help her figure out how to use them. After Mia steps in to plan a wedding (the first planner was fired) between a shifter family and a witch family, things get worse. Someone ends up dead... Mia's being threatened by a member of the wedding party or family who doesn't what the two sects to merge... and someone is trying to break into the school she's been renovating. How's it all connected?
I really enjoyed the background details on the various families in Magic Springs, Idaho, as well as the development of the werewolf species and the witch clan. Mia's relationship with Trent is growing nicely, and the close connections to Christina and Levi round out the side stories, even James (chef) at a local restaurant. I really want to fix the cat / human issues tho (someone got trapped inside the cat's body during death - long story). I liked the mystery but felt like the culprit's reasoning could've been more defined and incorporated into the various scenes. It made sense but needed a little more backstory. Overall, a winner!
