Addie Greyborne is the owner of Beyond the Page Books and Curios, and loves nothing more than to find a good book sale. When she and her assistant Paige decide to take a trip to the neighboring town of Pen Hollow, they leave behind a very pregnant, petulant, and weepy Serena, who wants to go with them. But, since it is nearing Addie's birthday, Paige has also decided to treat her to a night out, so they will be gone until the next day...or so they think...
While at the sale, Addie discovers an old school bus that has been converted to a bookmobile, and she's excited to find it's also for sale. Completing the sale with the local mayor, Luella, she's ready for it to be turned over. But Luella wants it public, complete with television airing and turning over the keys.
Addie is also surprised -- extremely -- to find her old high school boyfriend, Tony Radcliff, living in Pen Hollow. He disappeared without a trace, and now he wants to catch up and talk to her about their pasts and where it led them today. But she's also concerned about her growing relationship with Simon, the coroner, and thinks he's been distant. Addie wonders what's going on with him, too.
But before the bus can be delivered, there's an accident and the driver is dead. The local sheriff is sure the murderers are Addie and Paige; all because they're 'outsiders' and he's sure no one in his district could have committed the crime. When Addie discovers that both Simon and Chief Marc Chandler of Greyborne Harbor have arrived, she knows she's in trouble. With both men trying to clear her, she can't just sit back and wait. Now she and Paige are on the hunt for a killer, and it isn't making them very popular in town...
This is the eighth book in the series and my favorite one so far. (A series which I hope will continue for a long time yet). I have read every one of them and have followed the characters from their beginnings -- when I didn't care for Addie at all to now, when I do like her immensely. The characters have developed and evolved, and they feel like old friends at this point.
Therefore, when Addie gets in trouble through no fault of her own, it peeved me that the police force in this town were crazy. But, it makes for good reading, and that's definitely what this is. There were a couple of good people in town -- Paige's sister's neighbor Valerie, for one; but most were crazy themselves. Not a town I'd want to visit. However, I would love it if Addie made a trip to England (read the book and you will know why).
While her relationship with Simon is put on the back burner, Addie has to ask herself who wanted the victim dead the most -- because, as we already know, there will be a plethora of suspects on the horizon -- and trying to find answers isn't easy, at least not here. But when she starts digging around, she finds that the victim wasn't as upstanding as they seemed.
The story line is original, the writing descriptive (especially of Pen Hollow), and again, the characters engaging. Ms. Elliott has warmed to her persons; she gives them life beyond the page (see what I did there?) and it's heartwarming, suspenseful, and intriguing as you try to discover the killer along with Addie. When the ending comes, and justice is served, it's a strange thing all around, but quite satisfying to read. Highly recommended.
A Margin for Murder was a fun read. Addie Greybone is the main character who is manager of her parent's store, Beyond the Page, a book and curio shop. The supporting characters add to the story. Paige Stinger is Addie's Assistant Manager and Catherine Lewis is Paige's Assistant Manager. They live in Greyborne Harbor, MA. Aggie and Paige go for an overnight to Pen Hollow to look at books as. the library is closing. due to the withdrawl of a benefactor, Maisie Radcliff's money by her grandson, Anthony Radcliff. While at the library Addie and Paige meet the mayor of the town, Luella Higgins who tells them that the library bookmobile is also for sale. Addie buys some furniture, books and the bookmobile. Patricia Seagrum who is the librarian said that the town council had proimised her the truck. Luella goes to get the bookmobile and crashes into a wall and is killed. It is found that Luella was murdered by poison. Sheriff Turner who is investigatikng the murder thinks that Aggie and Paige were the ones who poisoned the mayor. and they cannot leave town. Simon Emerson is Addie's boyfriend and Mark Chandler, the chief of police of Greyboarne Harbor come to town when they hear that Aggie and Paige are suspects. Addie and Paige decide to find out who killed and mayor to clear their names. This is when the story takes off with other suspects, an old boyfriend,, finger pointing, etc. The story comes to an ususal conclusion with other surprises.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corp. for this ARC.
This is book eight of Beyond the page Bookstore Mystery series by Lauren Elliott. I found this book to be uniquely written and delightfully different. Near the end readers learn who the killer really is and what a surprise that turns out to be! This Cozy Mystery was certainly a puzzler and many of the clues led to dead ends. I confess that before reading A Margin of Murder I had only read book one of this series. That didn’t keep me from being drawn into the story and turning those pages. I definitely will be reading the other books in this series. The book was entertaining and quite scary at times. I loved the characters that were a part of this story.
Addie Greyborne and her friend and employee Paige Stringer are taking a short trip to a near by town.
The library there is permanently closing its doors and everything is being sold to the general public. Addie gets a bit carried away and spends over her budget, even buying a book bus. Almost before the ink on the official paperwork dries there’s an accident and the most hated woman in that town dies along with the book bus. Addie and Paige become number one suspects for murder! As the new owner of the bus could Addie also be held responsible for all damages caused by the accident and be held liable in a law suit from the victim’s family? What a mess the girls have gotten themselves into and how will it all turn out for them?
I recommend this book to readers of Cozy Mystery and fans of the author. This book is scheduled to be released on April 26 of 2022.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.
It's time for another adventure with bookseller, Addie Greyborne. This time she's on the road with her assistant, Paige, as they travel to nearby town, Pen Hollow, for a library booksale. There appears to be tension at the booksale, as the library is closing down, and the town is very angry at both the Mayor, and the benefactor that has pulled out. Addie is planning on just buying a few books and leaving. However, when the option to buy the bookmobile turns up, Addie leaps at the chance. Her vision for driving around in the bookmobile is short lived though, when it is involved in a fatal crash. What appears to be an accident soon turns to murder, especially when the local Sheriff is determined to point the finger at Addie and Paige.
The Beyond the Page Bookstore Mysteries are one of my absolute favourites. I love books about books, and this one is a first class series. Every story delivers a tantalizing story, involving interesting books and a fascinating whodunnit. Of course, there is also the sub-plots surrounding Addie and her friends, that keep me coming back for more.
I really liked the setting of picturesque Pen Hollow, with all its history and gothic intrigue. The murder itself was interesting and difficult to solve. I didn't manage to solve it before Addie did, and the ending left me saying "oh my". It was definitely a denouement that would make Agatha Christie proud!
I absolutely loved everything about A MARGIN FOR MURDER. Beyond the mystery, Addie's friend, Serena, is pregnant and there is a lot going on in Addie's love life. The ending gave me that "curled toes in cozy delight" feeling, and I can't wait for the next adventure!
Most of us have had a birthday or 2 go awry, but not to murder, as in this mystery that keeps Addie and Paige on their toes, Filled with twist and turns to keep it interesting this is a quick enjoyable read and a great series.
I enjoyed this book. Addie and Paige find themselves wrapped up in another murder investigation, however, this time they are both considered top suspects.
It seems the sheriff has no reason to look for further suspects, so Addie and Paige have to try and prove themselves innocent.
What started out as a buying trip at a library book sale turns deadly, and Addie's birthday doesn't appear to be a happy one.
I would recommend this book and the series to anyone who likes a great cozy mystery.

I enjoyed this book. It’s a bit convoluted with lots of twists and turns but it finally gets there. The killer is definitely a surprise. I liked the characters. #AMarginforMurder #NetGalley
Loved reading this book and series. One of my favorite authors and series. If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend doing so. Read the books in order.

Fun characters and good sleuthing make this series a winner. I got hooked by the publisher's blurb again and was very glad to read this one!
I requested and received a free e-book copy from Kensington Books/Kensington Cozies via NetGalley. Thank you!
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Kensington Books and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
The eighth installment of Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery is as enjoyable as the prior seven. Cozy mystery fans can rejoice in the pages of the delightful characters and this tale.
It’s the eve of Addie Greyborne’s birthday and she’s looking forward to a library book sales and an evening away with her friend and employee before heading home and celebrating with her boyfriend. She’s hoping he’ll propose to her and all seems right with the world. Until it isn’t.
After purchasing the library’s book mobile, which angers the head librarian and others, Addie just wants the keys and to head home. But as the mayor went to get the book mobile for a publicity opportunity in handing over the keys, there’s an accident and it turns out the mayor was poisoned which caused the book mobile crash. Now the sheriff is looking to railroad Addie and Paige even without any evidence. Luckily, Simon and Marc show up and want to help clear the ladies this is not how Addie was hoping her birthday would turn out. Can they find the murderer or will Addie and Paige be spending the rest of their lives in prison?
This is a fabulous series that continues to outdo itself with each and every entry. It’s one of the coziest cozy series around! I highly recommend this series.
A great cozy mystery, A Margin for Murder is a must-read.
The storyline was easy to follow and the well-crafted characters were quite enjoyable.
What was supposed to be a fun birthday trip at a booksalr, turns into a weeklong nightmare as Addie and Paige find themselves the prime suspects in a murder! Hopefully with the help of her friends, Addie can prove her innocence. The eighth installation was just as riveting as the first seven! I love these characters!
