"When a Princess Proposes" is the sixth installment in Kerrelyn Spark's series "Embraced by Magic". This story takes place 20 years after the last novel; now following the grown children of previous characters. You will recognize Evie, Quentin, Elam, and Olana. Now grown, ready to assume the responsibilities of keeping their kingdoms safe from secret organizations with nefarious intentions, while inevitably finding love along the way. Compared to the previous romances in this series, I would describe the progression as slowburn, which was refreshing and more rewarding. These characters all around feel more dynamic and the women main characters feel more capable than their predecessors had been.

As for plot, it has some twists and turns, although the foreshadowing can be a bit heavy handed. At times I found myself exasperated how long it takes characters to figure things out for themselves; which makes the characters appear dense instead of clever. Only a few spicy moments, but enough that I would not recommend this for YA. It's a light, humorous, quick read. If you're looking for fluffy romance, this is the book for you.

I was given an advanced copy for an unbiased review.

I really enjoyed the original series focusing on the sisters. This book begins the next generation and continues in the well written and fun style of the first books. I loved the character developments and the beautifully written world. It is a delightful continuation, but could be read without the background of the original books.

When a Princess Proposes by Kerrelyn Sparks is part of this author's Embraced by Magic series. I love when one of my favorite series gets continued on to the next generation. I totally enjoyed this book. Once again there is danger for the Embraced in Aerthlan. I found Princess Eviana's (Evie) Embraced gift quite intriguing and her bravery very impressive. Quentin's Embraced gift of being able to shift into an eagle is awesome. I like Evie and Quentin as a couple and enjoyed following along to the Happily Ever After. I look forward to the stories of more of the younger generation.

I love that we are getting to the children's story now. I think this world the author has built is fun and has that childhood fairytale storyline, but with a bit of adult content. It just makes for a fun read.

Our heroine, Eviana is the daughter of Luciana and Leo from book 1 of the Embraced series. She has that innocence of a sheltered princess. She also has a pretty, powerful ability that could potentially make her dangerous to others. You really get to see her embrace that power, and go from a sheltered princess to a hero.

Our hero, Quentin is also embraced with the power to shift to an eagle, which makes him a powerful spy for the royals. He's been in love with Eviana for years but does not feel worthy for her station. That will be the biggest struggle for this couple to overcome while they battle an evil that wants to rid this world of the royal family.

This is a big fantasy world this author has created and a lot of story to be told. I look forward to where she takes us next.

When a Princess Proposes is an exhilarating and passionate journey full of wicked surprises and wonderful twists. There is nothing like experiencing this adventure along with the breathtaking characters who are sure to steal your heart just as they imprint themselves on your very soul. What you find within these pages will delight, enthrall, and surprise you every step of the way. Nothing will keep you from turning these pages as quickly as you can to find out what happens next.

Princess Eviana knows her life is not her own. She spends her days trying to learn as much as she can to improve the lives of others. However even a princess needs something to call her own. When she discovers what that is her for, nothing will stop her from catching it and holding it close. Quentin knows his place among the royals. He is a servant who does everything he can to help keep the peace and bring balance to his world. He has never asked for anything in return. Why now does he feel an unexpected need to claim what his heart longs for? Will Quentin help Eviana in her quest, or will he thwart her at every turn?

Oh how my heart rejoiced at the perfect and precious love that fought to be accepted and allowed to thrive! No one could have imagined who their princess would have fallen in love with, or could have predicted that the object of her love would have fought so hard to push her away. What fun it was to watch their push and pull among unrelenting danger and deadly deceit! This story was such a joy to behold and a true gift to savor.

Kerrelyn Sparks has such a spectacular and enthralling well of creativity! What her mind doesn't invent her heart fills in with the most brilliant of characters or the most extraordinary of plots. This is such a marvelous series that only keeps getting better and better with its jaw-dropping storylines and its heart-stealing characters. I truly cannot wait to experience the next book in this unforgettable and enthralling series!

I loved the first set of these books where each sister threw the seeing stones and then went off on their journey from the Embraced Island to find their true love.

This series is the next generation. It was fun as we follow Luciana's daughter, Eviana, who is forced to hide her embraced gift and is on the run from attempted assassination. This is the same daughter that was kidnapped when she was three. She is constantly watched by the kingdom's spy Quentin who pretty much takes on the role of Brody. The best character in the book is the "confessor" whose embraced gift is for people to spill the truth when she touches them. Well, what happens if she touches you and you blurt out that you are a in love with someone from afar?

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me through NetGalley. This book was just absolutely wonderful. It was just so easy to get lost in and I just couldn’t put it down. I just lost myself within this amazing story. I most definitely will read more by this author.

I received this book from NetGalley. This book was fantastic. I love these characters and it was great to see them return for this story. I won't give anything away, but this one is about one of the children of a past character.

In Aerthlan there are 5 kingdoms, any child born on the night when the 2 moons eclipse (embrace) will be gifted a magical power - they are called the Embraced. In possession of a rather unusual Embraced gift she’s not allowed to use, Princess Eviana of Eberon has not been trained, unlike the other Embraced children. Now with her overprotective parents wishing her to wed, noblemen all over Eberon are hoping for a chance to win over the princess. Valiant but low-born, Quentin, the eagle shifter and messenger/spy for the kings and queens of Aerthlan has a quiet but fierce infatuation with Eviana. When a new evil threatens to destroy the peace that Aerthlan has known for the past 20 years, Eviana and Quentin must work together to save Aerthlan.

This is the 6th book in the Embraced series by Kerrelyn Sparks! I’ve been following this series since book 1 came out in 2017 and I thought it would have ended with book 5 finishing up Maeve’s story. Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw another Embraced book! I was happy to revisit Aerthlan where our 5 pairs of Embraced kings and queens have been ruling in peace for the past 20 years. And now we get to read about their children!

Princess Eviana is the daughter of King Leo and Queen Luciana (of book 1), while we first met Quentin on the Isle of Secrets in book 5. I loved seeing how these kids have now grown up and are fighting to protect Aerthlan and also finding their own love interests.

I’m not really a fan of love at first sight but I like the Embraced series so I probably went into this book biased to some extent. I also relished the little love story for the side characters.

Although there is a new evil in this story, not all of them are truly bad and I really hope there’s some redemption for poor Bran, perhaps in future books?

The story is relatively fast-paced and overall I enjoyed it. I think it’s possible to read this as a standalone, but knowledge of the previous books will definitely add to the appreciation of this story. I’m definitely looking forward to more stories in the Embraced series!

Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for the e-ARC!

When a Princess Proposes is the latest in Kerrelyn Sparks’s Embraced by Magic series but can be read as a standalone. Set in the same world, this story takes place a generation later and focuses on Princess Eviana and Quentin, both of whom were born on an Embrace and as such have magical powers.

When a Princess Proposes was a quick read, a bit ridiculous at times but a lot of fun to read. Some threads were left loose, and I look forward to the next in the series.

I’ll just say I make it terrible reviewer. These days, I only wanna read books that really appeal to me. And this book just was boring. Plus, Insta lust is almost never my thing.. I’m sure this book is fine for plenty of folks but it just didn’t grab my attention and I just don’t want to finish it. With so many great books in the world, this just isn’t worth my time. I made it about 40% in before stopping and now I’m going to stop trying to read avanced reader copies of books for authors I don’t know already already.

There is a reason why I buy books by certain authors without even checking the blurb. Just instant buy. Kerrilyn Sparks has been on that list for awhile and with good reason. I loved this book — just the right mixture of fantasy, romance, humor and maybe even a bit of suspense.

I have read every book in this series so far, but unfortunately I wasn’t very impressed with this one. I felt like the characters were written to be very juvenile, it was hard to believe that they were similar in age to myself. I also found the story to be repetitive in comparison to other books in the series. It seemed like the plot points were recycled. It was an easy read, so I enjoyed it in that regard. It wasn’t horrible, but it also wasn’t remarkable, so I give it 3 stars.

From the very first book in the Embraced series, I have been a die-hard fan of the Aerthlan world and the magically gifted rulers of its five kingdoms. So imagine my elation when I came upon book no.6 of the series - a second generation story.

Ever since her powers manifested on her thirteenth birthday, Princess Eviana has been forced to live a sheltered life, and her magical gift kept a closely guarded secret by her parents, the King and Queen of Eberon. As an eagle shifter, Quentin's gift makes him invaluable as a royal spy and an official messenger for the five kingdoms. Despite being desperately in love with Evie, Quentin considers his lowly status makes him ineligible for a princess and so stays on the sidelines, watching her from afar. But when danger strikes, throwing them together in an adventure, the mismatched pair realize that they have more in common with each other than they thought.

The story picks up twenty years after the last book and has all the elements that made the Embraced series a big hit among fantasy lovers - a brooding hero and a feisty heroine with unique magical powers, and mystery, angst and romance galore. The plot follows the same formula as the previous books wherein the protagonists join hands to fight a common enemy and save their kingdom, falling in love in the process. It was a tad disappointing though that Lady Olana who, I had hoped, owing to her powers, would be more prominent in the book was only given a supporting role. Moreover, her romance with Elam was also depicted in broadstrokes and was fairly rushed. The Raven, a conflicted character was the most interesting one in the plot and I look forward to seeing more of him in the coming books.

Though the book can be read as a standalone, considering the multiple references to characters and events from the previous books, IMO, it would make better sense to read those first for a better appreciation of the story, characters and the Aerthlan world. And with more second generation characters introduced in this plot, I am hoping for more books to follow.

Overall, a fab addition to an already wonderful series. Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington books for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Delightful read! I devoured it in a day, perfect escapism. I was able to jump right in and enjoy the world without having previously read the rest of the series.

Three and a half
I thoroughly enjoyed the previous Embraced stories and I’m delighted that the author has now gone twenty years or so into the future to give readers books about the next generation. Eviana is the much protected Princess, innocent to a point that’s irritating and naive to boot ! Her power is this huge secret that only close family know and because of this she is closeted at home and forbidden to actually use it !
Quentin is a shape changer and uses his eagle form to act as the Kings spy. He’s from a humble background and knows he’s never going to be a true part of the Court but that doesn’t prevent him loving the beautiful, charming Princess who can never know of his feelings. When an underground cult try to kidnap Eviana it’s Quentin who finds her and Eviana suggests/persuades him to help her but sadly her secretive power has been discovered and things escalate putting many more lives at risk !
You have probably guessed from my opening remarks about Eviana that she wasn’t my sort of heroine. However I did like Quentin and several supporting characters made me sit up and take notice . Perhaps a little slow for my personal taste but things certainly perked up when a Raven shifter and his family were introduced to the storyline. Of course it’s a happy ending for the young couple with the King almost having his Solomon moment which definitely made me smile. I very much look forward to what I’m guessing might be a revenge story next but sincerely hope that the heroine is a lot more outgoing than Eviana.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
