A thoughtful series of interviews on gender. Ewing's artwork is straightforward. The conversation made me think about my relationship with gender.

Amazing insight into gender and what it means to different people. As someone who is discovering my own identity this book meant so much to me!

This graphic novel is a magnificent look at the issues of gender and sexuality. It is a wonderful gift for any library or anyone who is asking themselves questions about who they are. It should be in every public library in the country.

I learned a lot reading this book. I am straight, but it was interesting to see others perspectives of gender and how others uniquely define it. I enjoyed that it was a graphic novel and how the premise of it was through interviews. I do not plan to adopt this into my classroom only because of age appropriateness (I teach very young children). However, I do plan to keep this in mind for others who may benefit from this book.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC copy of this book!

I found this comic informative. It presents information about all genders in a neutral, factual manner that I appreciated. I also thoughts the images were well-done and eye-appealing.

I didn't get a chance to read this through NetGalley as I had issues with my device. Luckily enough, I found this at my favorite comic shop and gave it a shot. It ended up being one of the best graphic novels I've read this year! I loved the diverse stories about gender. Some were eye opening while others felt like the poured out of me.

This book heartbreaks me a little because of what the author/mc all had to endure to get from point a to b. But go check it out for yourself and see what I mean :)

I insisted that our library buy this book.

Fine by Rhea Ewing is a phenomenal collection of biographical accounts. It illustrates (literally) the full spectrum of expression, and gives readers the tools necessary to explore their own identity.

I had to stop within the first 10 pages to journal what my answers to these questions would be. I love how many different perspectives there are here. I know this was a huge labour of love that took this long to put together, but I wish I could know how different these answers would be (whether from the same people or different people) if they were asked today instead of ~2013, given how much societal understanding of gender and being trans has changed. It doesn't feel outdated, though: I'm just curious! I highly recommend this to anyone interested in gender (which I feel like should be everyone?)

This book was fine. It might be a good introduction to questioning gender for someone who hasn't already interacted with that question outside of this book. I would rather have just gotten the main character's experience and called this a memoir, rather than pull in a bunch of one-off quotes from people whose full story I don't get. This maybe didn't need to be in the graphic format and instead could have been a more fleshed-out traditional book.

This is one of the most introspective books that I've read on gender, about the journeys that individuals either have to take alone or can traverse a familiar path if they're lucky. Rhea discusses how hard it can be if you lack a support system or resources, and that gender isn't a definite binary. Nor are the criteria for masculinity or femininity. What starts as a college project becomes a journey for Rhea, mixing the personal with the inquisitive.

Thought this was cute and a good representation on gender diverse people but the pacing was a little off for me and there was a lot happening

There are going to be more well-written reviews than mine for this book, but if I can impress on anyone reading this review that you need to read this, I'll have done something good. Gender is such a tricky, wriggly subject, and this book helps the reader process all that trickiness into something more easily understandable. This project started after the author got asked what their pronouns were for the first time, leading them to get really interested in what gender was. Ewing interviewed dozens of people, including both trans and cis gendered folks, to get a variety of perspectives on the subject, and the results are presented here in a thoughtful, sensitive way that is non-judgemental, straightforward, and easy to understand (*mostly* easy, gender's still tricky). I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone - it will make you think about what gender is (and isn't), and help you to understand the perspectives of others who might not have the same ideas about it as you do.

This graphic novel is a journey. The author does an impressive job of taking a complicated topic like identity and making it so approachable for the reader. I went on the journey with the author. Such a vulnerable and brave act to take on. The author uses the interview format extremely well to tell the story of identity. There are quite a few characters but it is the thread of identity throughout that really sells the book. You are able to see yourself and your own insecurities in each character. This graphic novel does not shy away from difficult topics that occur in the LGBTQA+ community. Excellent read.

A really interesting graphic collection of interviews. It is so interesting to see what gender means to so many people. This also really shows some of the wide differences in the experiences of trans people. This is a great opportunity for anyone to learn more about gender in general.

Informative and smart, I liked the interviews aspect, it’s great to hear from different people living different situations around the same topic.

In this graphic memoir and collection of interviews, the artist shows many perspectives surrounding gender, including their own journey to discovering and embracing their own identity.

This was an impactful and informative read! I appreciate having a variety of perspectives in the interviewees, and how everything was structured. We cover topics and revisit moments from interviews in a way that resembled a documentary.

As it continues, we see the evolution of what was a much smaller project become more diverse and inclusive.

Sprinkled throughout the interviews, we see Rhea’s journey of self, which gave everything more depth. It was a deeply personal journey, and gave the book and continuing narrative as we cycle through the perspectives of others. It was very well executed, and a read that everyone should spend time with.

I also enjoyed the art style! Overall, this was a great breakdown of gender and should be on everyone’s reading list.
