Syd Chambers has learned the truth of his father’s disappearance on the planet Ashfall, and the truth weighs heavily on him. Should he free humanity from imprisonment on Earth, or fulfill the prophecy that says he will destroy Earth? Syd is determined to choose his own fate, but at what cost?

Book two picks up where book one ended: Syd and his friends fleeing Ashfall. In their flight, they leave one of their own behind. The truth weighs on the cadet crew of Eastwood. They do their best to evade the Denzians, wanting time to think of what to do. But a secret cannot remain secret when more than one person knows.

I will admit, it took awhile for me to remember these characters. It’s been a year since I read the first book, and I didn’t reread it before beginning this one. Once I did remember, I was pleased to be back with these characters. Their journey was an interesting one, and I was eager to see what happens next.

The fact that this is a doulogy is disappointing. I want to know what happens to Syd and his friends! Does the prophey that he will be “the World Killer” happen? Or just from a certain point of view? Does the author have more planned for this world he has built? I want to know what comes next!

Though I still do not care for the swearing, I did enjoy the book. It was well written and detailed. Readers of sci-fi adventure will no doubt enjoy this duology.

So, I didn’t realize this was the second book in the new series when I requested it. I finally picked up the first book to read so I could get back to this and it turns out I didn’t care much for it. It feels like this series has run its course for me. I am glad people still love it.

Well dummy me missed the part that this was a sequel and I really think you need to read the first book to get this one because I was so so lost and very confused. I will give this one a try again later after I read the first book.

Pittacus Lore is back again with a second installment of Ashfall in Ashfall Prophecy. I want to thank the publisher/author for an advanced reader copy. The following review is not impacted by their generosity.

The first book was kind of a unique take on the Roswell idea. In book one, Syd Chambers has grown up on earth with his human mother only to find out he's actually half alien from a race called the Denza. He also learns the secret of his father's disappearance to a planet called Ashfall (where the series gets its name). Without giving spoilers away from book one, let's just say there was a huge secret between the Denza and the humans, and Syd's father died protecting that secret from getting out.

That leads us to the Ashfall Prophecy. In book two, Syd is left with the horrible question of what to do with the information he's garnered in book one. In book one, Syd was prophesized to be a "world-killer," so he's left with figuring out what that means to him and planet earth. Let's just say, the rest of the universe has a very legitimate reason to wanting humans to stay on our happy blue orb and not escape into the rest of the universe unsupervised. As humans do, we have a history of destroying things.

As with the first book, this ongoing space opera has some good chase scenes a few battles lots of explosions and a few snarky quips along the way.

As for the style of writing, most of the book is written from a first-person POV (Syd's), but there are a few second-person chapters told from a different character's POV. Normally, this type of shift in POV is jarring, but I think it works here.

Like the first novel, this one doesn't end the story, so it's clear that Lore has more sequels coming to this world he has created.

I didn't realize it was a sequel and I now know I only like to watch sci-fi not read it.

I didn't finish it, but the writing was perfectly fine, and I'm sure I'd love the movies like I did "I am number four" but I just couldn't stay in the story as a reader.

You should definitely pick up this book is you enjoy Sci-Fi with incredible characters with individual personalities and a plot that shoves you in a spaceship and launches you straight into space. Highly recommend younread book one, Ashfall Legacy, first so that you can get the full experience. Bit the story will not leave you hanging. I love how the author takes humanity to all new levels, both good and bad, as the story progresses. Syd and. Zara are my favorite characters and the intensity of the battle scenes and structure that builds the story forced me to finish the book in two days. I couldn't stop reading and can't wait to see what adventure Syd might find next. There's always intrigue and subterfuge happening in the background that make you worry for the characters even after you've stopped reading. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

What's it about (in a nutshell):
Ashfall Prophecy by Pittacus Lore is a YA sci-fi story set in space and starts where Ashfall Legacy leaves off. Syd Chambers has learned the truth of his father's disappearance and all that he was trying to protect in book one, and now he must decide whether to free humanity or destroy Earth. How much will fate dictate this decision, and how can Syd choose his future and that of Earth?

Initial Expectations (before beginning the book):
I read book 1, Ashfall Legacy, last year, so I expect to read more of that tale. The first book is fast-paced with plenty of action and cool planets and creatures to explore. Hopefully, book two will be similar, and it would be nice if it were even better.

Actual Reading Experience:
My actual reading experience was a bit of a challenge early on. Enough background information was not provided to jog my memory about the details from when I read the first book a year ago. I had trouble remembering the different components of each species of the significant support characters though I generally remembered the events. So you must read this book soon after Ashfall Legacy for the best reading experience.

I loved all of the action in this story. Spaceships chasing one another, kidnappings, and other events kept the story flowing and the pages flipping. It stays narrowly focused throughout, which I also enjoyed, and it's an exciting tale from start to finish.

Lastly, I enjoyed the twist on the role of humans in the universe. It is relatively unique and creative, and I've never seen humans represented this way amongst various other creatures or the Earth portrayed the way it is, for that matter.

Characters:
The characters did not go through a lot of growth in Ashfall Prophecy. Not like they did in Ashfall Legacy. I would have liked to have had more development, but I understand that the story covers a relatively short period of awake time, so it may be difficult.

Narration & Pacing:
The narration is fascinating in this book. Most of it is in 1st person through Syd's eyes, but a few chapters focus on Darcy, and those are written in 2nd person. If you've never read a story told in the second person, you are in for quite a unique experience. The pacing is fast, primarily with spaceship chases and other conflicts, but it does slow at points. Changing to second-person narration slowed down my reading as I worked to process what I was reading.

Setting:
The setting is space and a few different planets with unique creatures. I think the aspect that I love the most is world-building. It is incredibly imaginative, with plenty of sensory descriptions that make you feel like you are there on each new planet and in the spaceship. There is much for the reader to explore that made my imagination soar.

To Read or Not to Read:
If you enjoy Chosen One stories set in space, then the Ashfall series is one that you will want to consider. It is essential to start with Book 1, Ashfall Legacy, as you will have trouble following what's going on in Ashfall Prophecy if you don't.

Ashfall Prophecy is the second book in the Ashfall series by Pittacus Lore. The characters are well written, and you can clearly picture them and the vivid scenes in this novel. Lore writes a vivid world where humans are more than humans. I enjoyed this book and finished this one in an afternoon. I will be reading more from this author soon.

The story takes up exactly where it left off in the previous book. I wasn't really expecting it to go in the direction that it did, but it was very enjoyable. The chapters from Darcy's point of view (especially the last one) were very insightful and interesting. I hate that it ended on a sort of cliffhanger, but I'm also glad because hopefully that means there will be more to the story. I felt really bad for Syd's mom and hope she gets help. The prison on Earth's moon was an interesting development, and I am also surprised that the humans didn't try to nuke the spaceships. I can't wait for more!

Syd knows he is different. He was raised by his human mother and doesn’t really remember his alien father. It turns out that Syd’s father died on the planet Ashfall protecting a secret about humans and Denzans. Syd is now faced with an impossible choice. He can free humans from the limitations of Earth or he can destroy Earth itself to keep humans from attacking other species … again. Syd knows that he has been prophesied a world-killer, but can he choose his own path? Was his father’s death in vain?

Ashfall Prophecy is the second book in the Ashfall series. The book’s introduction tells readers that this is a duology, but after finishing this book I believe Lore can write more in this sci-fi universe if he chooses. This novel is full of space travel, aliens, adventure and personal conflict, so many reader types will enjoy this book. The overall feel is similar to Lore’s other novels and I found myself wondering if the worlds were crossing, but readers do NOT need to have read the other series to enjoy this one.

Excellent read! The first chapter threw me for a loop when I saw it written in second person, and I wasn't sure I'd like the book if the entire thing was written like that. Good news! It isn't. After the first chapter, it switches back to first person, which made the book much more enjoyable to read. It was fast-paced, and I really enjoyed it. I want to read more!

I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and were not affected by the free copy.

I just went back and reread not only Ashfall Legacy in preparation for this book, but the review I wrote for the first, just to see if the things that bothered me last time were fixed in this book, and sadly, I was once again left feeling a little disappointed.

At the end of Ashfall Legacy, we had just discovered the galaxy shattering news about the plight of humanity, and the Denzan's hand in it. Syd has been prophesized to become a world killer, but he is determined to choose his own destiny.

First things first: Still not a huge fan of Syd. He finds out what happened to his dad, goes on the run (again) for MONTHS, and never once thinks "Hm, I should probably call my mom." He goes light years out of his way to help a friend he knew for mere months without even considering what his mother is going through.

I still love Zara; feisty Vulpine alien that stabs first, asks questions second? Always yes. So, if I could just have a book about Zara, that would be great.

The book felt like it wrapped up way to easy and way too fast. It read like the final book in a duology, but completely avoids the issue of the prophecy, so I feel like there is a book 3 coming? I could have used a little less time discussing the 3 months they spent on the knock-out drugs for super speed space travel, and a little more time on the ending.

Now, for the good. Lore does a GREAT job catching everyone up on what happened in the first book. Even if I hadn't reread the first book right before this, I never would have felt lost or like I had forgotten important information. The characters did a really good job growing as a group, though again, I wanted to see more of the secondary characters. Except for the issue I have with the ending, the book is well-paced. I never felt like I got bored.

This series is a fun addition to the sci-fi genre, especially for those who like to think about the origin of humanity. I sincerely hope there is a book 3 because I need more to that ending.

I’ve really enjoyed this series. So much better than the movie. I like being able to catch up with the characters and always enjoy seeing a new book in the series.

Wow what a wild ride. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC. I loved Ashfall Legacy when I read it last year and Prophecy picked right off where it ended. Lore writes a vivid world where humans are more than humans. The characters are wonderfully written and you can clearly picture them as well as the vivid scenes in this novel.

Ashfall Prophecy by Pittacus Lore In the second book of the series, Syd is motivated to choose his own path and trusts there must be another option to the prophesy that he will be a world killer. In his quest he also wants acknowledgement of his father's sacrifice. An action packed, fast paced space adventure with a unique premise and interesting characters.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Does it even matter that I never read the first book?... no, not one bit. The characters were so unique, alien life-forms that were interesting and served a greater purpose than to enhance the humanoid main character's existence. Key backstory was provided so I never felt lost and wondering why Darcy sided with the "enemy" at first or if Syd was struggling based on his experience growing up with his deranged mother - it was revealed in perfectly bite-sized anecdotes and trips down memory lane. Characters you liked, disliked, went back and forth on several times... until finally they did what you hoped they would or (even more shockingly) got cut from the cast entirely. I was never bored and for this brain that's a mighty accomplishment. Having read nothing by this author yet I now intend to put their past series on my TBR.
Thanks #NetGalley
