Firstly, I would like to thanks Netgalley and Kodansha for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars
I love, love how cute this was! I mean I love shojo and the romance cutesy stuff and this kind of trope had been done to death but if you gave me something that does not cringe, I will gobble up anything. Our female character, Ellie was always treated like she is an invisible girl at her school and the only way she unleashed her true self is through Twitter by making these wild imaginations of her dating this very real, popular and handsome boy Ohmi. Only the thing is Ohmi was very much different from the person he showed to other people. He was cold and distant yet he keeps the facade of friendliness to others. Ellie somehow got tangled with him when he accidentally read the twitter posts of her wild fantasies. Talked about being caught in the act!
I like the setting enough to actually enjoy the story. its borderline cheesy but the characters make up for it. There is no dilly-dallying when it comes to romance. Ohmi was direct and honest and the loveline is blooming I told you in just one volume. It made me giddy ahahahhaha.
Definitely recommend if you love shojo romance because this one was definitely enjoyable.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to read this as by the time I had a chance to download it had been archived so unfortunately, I cannot review this manga as I have not read the book. this is a shame but I will be purchasing this off amazon as it looks very enticing.
Initially I struggled to get into this but by the end I was hooked and cannot wait until the next one.
This is a really cute story about Ellie, who is often lost in her fantasies, and how she befriends her crush.
Thank you so much to the author, Kodansha Comics, and NetGalley for the complimentary ARC!
This review contains my honest and unbiased thoughts and opinions. 🌸
I laughed so much while reading this manga!
I can’t believe I kept overlooking this manga! There were so many times I almost downloaded it to my Kindle but never did, thinking it might not be for me.
Oh boy was I wrong!
I truly enjoyed reading this manga!
It’s most definitely “for me”!
Ellie is such a romantic yet so completely awkward, I think we all can relate to Ellie in some way. Ellie is shy and quiet in person yet has this secret identity online where she posts her fantasy love life with the most popular boy at school. Like many, Ellie's Twitter/online personality is bold compared to her reactions to the same situations in person, she’s so unsure of herself and weird in person just like I use to be (or still am haha).
Not only does said boy discover her secret online account, he turns out to be more of a jerk than the romantic guy she pictures in her fantasy!
The guy definitely has some major jerk moments, he started out quite unlikeable and I wondered if this would be on of those where the guy is a jerk the entire series.
Turns out, he’s totally crushing as well!
and is a little awkward himself! Mr. Popular has his moments as well.
We start to watch as romance unfolds, completely awkward with lots of fun moments.
We also see Ellie come out of her shell just a tiny bit.
This is a fun, cute romantic manga and I can’t wait to continue reading to see how things progress!
That manga didn’t seduce me.
The drawings are very well made and give envy. The story for me is not over everything happens very quickly, see too much. The relationship of our 2 main characters is quite special I think of the twitt.
But I still feel like it’s a degrading relationship. Ellie has low self-esteem, and it hurts me every time she thinks that everything she does is going to upset Oumi.
Thank you Kodansha and NetGalley
For those who love an adorably hilarious romance, look no further than Fujimomo's 'Lovesick, Ellie! This beautifully illustrated story makes for an incredibly funny, endearing, and sweet read, 'Lovesick Ellie' takes you on the wild ride that comes with a lovably honest girl and an irritable boy who finds it hard to express himself. In reading this short, but sweet, graphic novel, I found myself reminiscing my feelings as a lovesick high schooler.
While Ellie is a self-proclaimed 'perv', her perversions are so honest that they become wholesome. This graphic novel does a splendid job in introducing more mature themes of love and desire that are often deemed taboo in the teenage sugary sweet love sphere. They are handled realistically and with care, showing readers of all ages, but especially younger ones, that these are normal human feelings. It was refreshing to read about a relationship that focuses on who the characters are, rather than who others perceive them to be.
It won't be long until you find yourself blanket kicking while searching for Ellie's Lovesick Twitter (read to find it - it's real!). Give it a shot and become a lovesick teen once more!
Thanks the #NetGalley and #Kodansha for this fun read.
Lovesick Ellie is about a girl who has been overlooked by everyone in her life and Highschool for being plain. So she does what we all do, going on Twitter to write about her fantasies about her crush. This manga is cute, funny and packed with hilarious situations. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who are looking for a light hearted teenage romcom story.
This was a cute, is somewhat typical, high school shojo manga. The way the MCs interacted with one another was cute and the MC H not being able to be fully honest with how he feels to the MC h and her inability to understand what he was trying to say was done well and didn't get on my nerves. I feel that there is hope that they will eventually get on the same page re: their feelings.
I do appreciate, though it was used for comedic purposes, that her OTT imaginings were identified as "not quite normal/average". The other characters called her a pervert, I wouldn't go that far, but I hope that the name calling makes her realize that she needs to live IRL and not solely in her imagination. It's not bad to have a healthy imagination, but to dwell only in the world of imagination isn't a great thing. I'm hoping her continued interactions with the MC H and her new friend will help her to break out of her imagination shell and start having healthy relationships with others. So I think this actually has a positive message for the reader, which is somewhat novel in a shojo in my experience. (I'm not a professional, just someone who enjoys reading manga, so I might have missed other manga with positive messages. Feel free to point me in the direction of some others!)
Definitely one I would recommend to shojo readers and I am looking forward to reading the next one. 4, very cute, stars.
My thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
Lovesick Ellie (vol. 1) is about Ellie Ichimura. She's at the bottom of the social chain so she spends most of her time daydreaming about Omi-kun. She tweets about her fantasies under the name lovesickellie. Soon, however she sees how Omi-kun is really like. This begins their adventures together.
Overall this was average. The art was cute but the story itself is very basic. It's not bad just not unique. The manga has the stereotype of loner girl and popular boy and if you enjoy that trope you'll probably enjoy this.
This is the perfect read for fans of opposites-attract romances that are all about the sides people keep hidden.
Or maybe not so much hidden in poor Eriko Ichimura's case as she is constantly looked over and forgotten by everyone around her. She manages that by creating a full-on fantasy life on Twitter where she makes salacious posts about her adventures with her 'boyfriend' who just happens to have the same name as the most handsome and popular guy in school, Akira "Omi-kun" Ohmi. Omi-kun acts like a shining, perfect prince with everyone, but Ichimura discovers that he's actually a sarcastic grump just as he discovers her online persona. They slowly start to get to know each other and a sweetly quirky love story begins.
The art is pretty standard fare for shojo, with the supposedly plain girl not really particularly distinguishable from the stylish pretty girls she's seemingly surrounded by and the handsome guy also not particularly different beyond the characters in the background constantly commenting on how good looking he is.
Overall, it's an interesting enough beginning to a sweet relationship that sets the stage for something interesting to come. I'm definitely following this one.
Happy thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the swoony read!
This was so cute! I can entirely relate to Ellie in regard to fantasizing about guys in high school who were actually assholes. I'm glad to see this relationship developing between them. Love the little intersplicing of her tweets that was really cute.
Lovesick Ellie 1 is perfect for fans of slice of life mangas!! This was a super cute, short read.Eriko was the character I resonated with the most. She's likable and it's relatively easy to be sympathetic towards her.
AAAGHHHH!!! I just finished this amazing manga. It was everything. When I just started reading I san't too sure I will like it, the whole part with her tweets just seemed dumb and characters personalities didn't look like anything could work out, but then...
As I read further and further it got so good I felt literally like on a rollercoaster. It has been pretty long since I jumped, cheered and really got excited over some manga, I probably looked like a puppy seeing his owner come home. And yeah I just really love these kind of romances where there is teasing, unsure emotions. One person is just really shy, but cheerful person to be around, the other one bit grumpy, a popular kid, with some kindness and good under the outer coat.
But this author is worth a lot, maybe artwork didn't amaze me that much, but it still was really pretty and I liked that it was kind of like watercolor art.
When I saw special thanks message I thought "NOOO.. this is the end of the volume 1" I was just so invested and scared for it to end. I'm literally OBSESSED. I'm already running to the google to search for other volumes and where could I get them. Don't ever leave me on volume 1 like this.

Lovesick Ellie features a girl that writes cheesy perverse tweets that read along the lines of something you'd find on Wattpad. She's never had any friends and frankly doesn't stand out from the crowd until she catches the eye of a popular boy in her class.
The beginning of this manga takes a while to get into since the premise of loner girl with weird hobby gets noticed by popular classmate has been done plenty of times. Eventually the two become closer and a blossoming relationship begins. This does end on a pretty intriguing cliff hanger which makes me want to continue with the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha comics for this eArc!
I honestly had no idea if i’d enjoy this manga, but I was pleasantly surprised! As a start, the art was seriously incredible, and the translations mostly made perfect sense. The plot obviously wasn’t super intricate, but the premise hardly allows for much complexity lol. But I was absolutely obsessed with Ohmi, our male lead, and I devour the trope where the boy with a hidden cold personality opens up to one girl, and her alone. It wasn’t very original, but it didn’t have to be for how much I enjoyed it! I experienced my fair share of second hand embarassment for our main character Ichimura, but I swooned along with her. Some of the side comments actually made me laugh out loud and I’m eagerly waiting for the second volume to see if they will indeed end up in a love triangle!!
The first couple chapters are kind of hard to really get into in this first volume but it gets a little better. Our main female protagonist is Eriko-aka Ellie-, a shy young high school girl that desperately wants to experience love. She runs a a twitter account dedicated to her romantic fantasies of a popular boy, Ohmi. And of course Ohmi finds out and so our story begins. Like almost every male lead in a shojo manga, Ohmi is popular boy for doing the bear minimum. On the surface he pretends to be a nice sociable guy, but he is really a rude cocky punk....but I can kind of understand him turning out this way considering girls are basically throwing themselves at him left and right for pretty much existing.
I had high hopes for this volume, but personally I'm not a fan of the premise and find it kind of odd. I didn't really find anything interesting about Eriko or Ohmi. In terms of demographic, I think this skews more to a middle school audience than older readers. Hopefully the next volume will be better.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for the chance to read this book in exchange with an honest review.
For ages now I’ve been meaning to read graphic novels/manga/comic books but I just didn’t know where to start or what stories I would like. Thanks to @kodanshabooks who so kindly sent me a copy of “Lovesick Ellie” via @netgalley I flew through this manga novel last night!
I still have the last couple pages to go which I will be reading as soon as I’m out of work tonight but I cannot wait to read the novels that the publisher so nicely sent me apart from this one.
This is a story about Eriko Ichimura, an unpopular high school girl who spends her time tweeting under a pseudonym. The tweets are cringey and about a boy that she likes.
The boy then runs into her in a fluke situation and happens to see her entire twitter.
The art was very well done. I think the story was well done if this is the particular genre you are interested in. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into the characters and overall was not captivated by the story. I think that this would be better suited to readers who like rom-com styles with quirky main characters.
This was much funnier than I thought it would be. It’s a lovesick teen girl lusting after a boy from afar and it goes from there. I was laughing the whole time and it was very engaging. I’d recommend this one as a quick read.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book!
“Lovesick Ellie” was a bit of a miss for me.
The one part of this manga that I really enjoyed was her new friend—she was the highlight of the entire story for me. Likewise, the art was enjoyable to view! I was more intrigued by Ohmi’s former friend than the chemistry between Ohmi and Eriko (which I didn’t really see as palpable part of the story). Maybe I would have liked it more if Eriko had something to base her crush on, like that he was nice to her as the invisible girl (even if it was a ruse), or if she saw him helping a kitten once. Likewise, I might have enjoyed this more if there was more of Ohmi commenting on the thinks “Ellie” was posting about him. I hope that something was lost in the translation for the tweets because I found them to be so cringe-y.
