Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I'm a fan of the parent trap so was really excited to read something with a similar premise. However, I was disappointed with this one. As a Blake in real life, I know first hand how her character feels and I seriously disliked Kats attitude to it, Her thought process was understandable when she was very young but to grow up and still believe that your once best friend turned half sister truly only befriended you so she could 'steal your dad' when he was hers too is idiotic. I didn't like how Kat treated Blake throughout the whole book. She treated her like a punching bag, every time something went wrong she took it out on her. I especially didn't like how she blamed Blake for their dads crappy behaviour. Children are not responsible for their parents' actions. She said some really awful things to Blake, especially their last big fight. I thought everything being fixed and cleared up after one single talk following the fight was also really unrealistic. If Kat had said to me what she said to Blake she'd be cut off, half sister or not.
The romance was ok. I quite liked seeing the different relationships play out. Henry and his daughter were adorable and I liked Blakes love interest too.
I would have liked to have seen more of the home renovation and less of Kats POV.
I LOVE a summer camp vibe, and I LOVE a beach vibe, so this sisterly story was a hit for me! And how cute is that cover?
This was another cute romance book. You knew they'd work it out in the end, but it was a fun ride along the way to see how things would all turn out. This was another cute romance book. You knew they'd work it out in the end, but it was a fun ride along the way to see how things would all turn out.
It was really hard for me to relate to the way the two sisters treated each other as adults. I get the emotional baggage etc, but their dad basically sucked so being so weird about him didn't feel right. Putting that aside, their new relationships forged in the cute little beach town, and the house projects, were cute and fun to read.
As someone who works a lot of contract work and has a great credit score and was able to get loans, it puzzled me that as a very successful influencer she wouldn't qualify for a home loan...
The Beach Trap by Ali Brady is a wonderful book about sisters, family, and love with a subtle Parent Trap vibe. I enjoyed this book very much as I love books about sisters and family drama. This book was so much better than I expected. The cover and the blurb made me think this would be a light-hearted rom-com, and it is, but it’s also so much more. I love books about sisters, and The Beach Trap did not disappoint. Like in the Parent Trap, Kat and Blake meet at camp, and that’s where they discover they are half-sisters. But instead of instant friendship, Kat is angry and does not have any contact with Blake until they inherit the beach house. This story is mainly about Kat and Blake and their journey to forgiveness and understanding.
I was fully immersed in this story from the very beginning and I enjoyed every page. I love a good family drama, especially with sisters, and lots of emotion, and The Beach Trap fulfilled all these wishes.
This book was okay, but overall I was disappointed. For me, it was nothing new and I didn’t find the relationships (familial and romantic) interesting.
First of all, I absolutely love this cover, title, and it turned out I really enjoyed what was inside too. Beautifully written and filled with heart, The Beach Trap was just the kind of read I needed, and with two sisters, I got double the romance which I am so here for.
This one has been on my TBR shelf for a while, and I decided now was the time to pick it up. I'm so glad I did....and so sad I skipped over this one as long as I did! What a fun story!
Kat and Blake met at summer camp and became instant BFFs. Sadly, Kat's grandmother passes while she is at camp and her father comes to get her for the services. While Blake is waiting with Kat to say her goodbyes, her world is turned upside down when Kat's father arrives. It turns out that Kat's father is also Blake's part-time father. As the preteen girls try to process the double lives of their father, their friendship disintegrates until they are forced back together after their father's death and the announcement that he left Kat's mom with no money and left his two daughters with joint ownership of his only real asset: the Beach House.
This book was an excellent beach read with its "Parent Trap" like premise. It was fun and funny and light and bittersweet.
I really enjoyed this read mostly because of the sister relationship. Both characters had realistic backstories and had character development throughout the book. It was refreshing to see two people examine their surroundings and the situation and learn from their past to move forward in a positive way. It also helped that they both had their own romantic stories going on!
Overall, this book surprised me by how. much I liked it. I was expecting something a little more serious based on the description but I'm glad it wasn't so serious!
Think Parent Trap but better. Kat and Blake meet at summer camp and become super close. That is until Kat's father picks Kat up. Turns out Kat and Blake are half sisters. Fast forward 15 years and Kat and Blake's dad passes away.
The twist happens when their dad left a beach house to both of his daughters. Kat hates Blake since her dad had another kid with another woman. The drama at the beach house is not as crazy as I expected since the women swap weekends at the house.
Romance, family, sisterhood, The Beach Trap has it all. It's an easy beach read that makes the reader want their own beach house to fight over.
This was more of a 3.5 star book for me! I really enjoyed the plot and the romance. One of the characters was just very ugh for me but I guess that means the author wrote a good character? Lol
This was like parent trap with a lot more trauma involved
Very good read! I enjoyed the Parent Trap vibes from this story. The two points of view was very interesting, even if Kat was unlikable at times to me. The story was interesting though and I liked how everyone ended up. I would read this author again.
When Kat and Blake met at camp, they have an instant connection. But everything falls apart when they learn they’re half sisters. Fifteen years later, their father dies suddenly and leaves them a joint inheritance: the family beach house in Destin, Florida. Blake wants to sell the house, while Kat is desperate to hold on to the place where she lived so many happy memories.
This is family fun at its finest! It's definitely more women's fiction than romance, but each sister does get a romantic interest. I listened to the audiobook, and I really enjoyed this.
This is kind of giving me Parent Trap vibes with the long lost sister bit, and I'm here for it. I hate that death had to bring them back together, but watching them reconnect was great and well-written.
BOOK REVIEW
BOOK: The Beach Trap
AUTHOR: Ali Brady
FORMAT: eBook
RATING: DNF (did not finish)
MY THOUGHTS
I started this book and found that I had a lot of difficulty connecting to the story. I did not finish it, not for lack of quality of the book but more so that I felt it was a “right book wrong time” situation where I wasn’t in the right mindset for this one at this time! Hopefully will be picking it back up in the future!
This was SUCH a fun and whimsical read!! I am a sucker for any story that takes place where you can almost feel the sunshine on your face. I can’t wait to see what the author comes out with next!
This was more of a contemporary womens fiction with a side of romance thrown in! It included broken and messy families plus the complexity of sisterhood within it. Out of the two MCs, Kat was definitely the one who was less likable to me. Though she was complex, her privilege and how she treated and assumed things about Blake made me a tad annoyed even though I am glad she came around in the end! Blake's character I liked much better because she felt more relatable. On top of that, the romances were sweet and a nice addition + included some steam! This definitely made me want to go for a beach getaway!
Ya’ll. The hype surrounding this one is real and for a good reason! This is the ultimate summer read! It has everything you want in a book…romance, sister relationships, a dreamy beach setting, STEAM! I adored both Kat and Blake and loved watching them evolve throughout the story. I loved watching their relationship with each other, past events, and also the house evolve and grow. Also, that epilogue 🥰🥰. I was so very fortunate to be able to beta read this book and I feel like I have been waiting forever for the rest of the world to get to experience how amazing it is!
A fun and light read, perfect for summer!
I really liked the sound of this one, and overall I did enjoy the story. I did think it came across as more of a young adult than women's fiction, but maybe that was me as I read an awful lot of women's fiction, but this one did feel way too cute and sweet to be aimed at adults and I think it would be perfect for teens who are just discovering the genre.
I liked the story, and that there are two romances thrown in and I loved the friendship between the characters which was the main aspect of the overall book.
I wouldn't say I loved it, but I did enjoy it and would read the author again!
The Beach Trap tells the tale of two half-sisters brought together when they inherit a run down beach house in Destin, Florida. Kat and Blake originally met as twelve year old girls attending summer camp. When Kat's father arrives to pick up his daughter, Blake realizes he is her own absentee father. Fifteen years later, Kat is a social media influencer and Blake in a nanny. The two women have to come to terms with their family history and their shared property. The Beach Trap is a page-turning read. Recommended for fans of Florida romance fiction.
