This was a fun beach read about two sisters. Kat and Blake became fast friends when they were 12, but finding out that they have the same father destroys the friendship. Their father dies 15 years later, and they're forced back together to deal with their inheritance.
I found this to be the true definition of a beach read. It dealt with a seemingly heavy theme - cheating parents, parental death - but there's a lightness to the story that makes it fly by. Neither of the sisters seemed like women I'd want to be friends with, but overall they were fine. The romance was just ok, I wasn't wowed by either love interest. This one was just ok for me, although I liked the writing.
Need a great beach read that will stick with you long after the waves subside?
Look no further.
The Beach Trap is filled with beautiful writing about two sisters on a journey of unexpected proportions. There's humor and love, growth and fun, all wrapped up in a home renovation plot...that includes a dog. What more could you want? The romance is well-done and unique, which made the reading experience much more enjoyable because it was not like the other books I've read. This is an author duo to be reckoned with...
Highly recommend!
Where do I even begin? The Beach Trap was everything I could ever want from a rom-com. Two perfectly imperfect heroines and two sexy male leads. The plot is well developed in the best of ways.
Things this book has that I loved:
- DIY renovations
- open door steam
- a fluffy puppy
- women who are independent and handy
- great character development
- detailed plot descriptions (I've never been to Destin and feel like I have)
I think the best part for me was this unique twist on a romance. Two best friends turned half-sisters, turned enemies both find love in unexpected places. This book encompasses strangers to lovers, friends to lovers, and puppy love!
Perfect for fans of Emily Henry and Christina Lauren.
Thank you to Berkely and the authors for my advanced reader's copy.
Fun book. half sisters learn how to love each other and be family. While renovating a beach house left to both of them. they must learn to get along
This was the perfect beach read. I loved the unique story line and the underlying themes of belonging, family, strength of self. The character of Kat was a bit much for me at first, but I loved witnessing her growth throughout the novel. This was a light, refreshing read that had me dreaming of the sun and sand. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of The Beach Trap!
I enjoyed this -- it was a fun premise, and I liked the developing relationship between the half-sisters -- but I could have done without all the steamy parts of the sisters' (obligatory) romances.
*Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an e-galley in exchange for an honest review.
Ali Brady has crafted a delightful and fun summer romance in “The Beach Trap”. This will be an excellent poolside companion this summer!
Absolutely loved The Beach Trap by Ali Brady! Half sisters with a rocky past and a father whose presence in each of their lives was less than ideal come together in their inherited beach house. One is ready to sell and the other wants to hold onto it forever. What could happen from there!?
The Beach Trap is a delightful novel about issues that families face and the trials they go t through as they try to solve them. Both Kat and Blake have justifiable reasons for resenting the sisterhood thrust on them and Ali and Brady did a remarkable job authoring the story keeping excitement and interest at its fullest. The romance in the novel adds to the satisfying climax.
A delightful romantic comedy with A Parent Trap twist. I enjoyed reading this one and loved that the tension what between the two girls and the romance was just an added bonus.
Two twelve year old girls meet at summer camp and become best friends -- until they discover that both of them have the same father. This family secret is quickly buried and the girls don't meet again until they are young adults. Their father, for reasons known only to him, dies bankrupt, and leaves both girls a run-down beach cottage in Destin, Florida. One sister desperately needs to sell, the other is wrapped up in all the happy memories she had there and refuses. They work it out, and work out their relationship along the way. This is a great story, full of heart and the acknowledgement that families can be very complicated.
Received an ARC from Netgalley for an honest opinion.
Such a fun story! Really interesting concept I haven't read this one before, or maybe it's been done but I just haven't read the book. The two main characters are half sisters and they don't find this out until they go to summer camp. Fast forward 15 years later, and they've inherited a house that they have to get ready to sell, or not. There's some guys along the way, then make them go out of their comfort zones, and that's a good thing.
I really enjoyed this story, and I think you will too.
Kat and Blake meet at camp Chippewa as 12-year-olds. They form a fast and isn’t any bond.. When Kat’s grandfather dies and Kat’s father comes to pick her up , Blake realizes that he is her father, too, who he hasn’t seen since her mother died. Years pass, and the girls are shocked to learn that their father has left them a beach house as co-owners. Can they get past the animosity each one feels and come to a conclusion about fixing and selling the house and can they form a relationship that is meaningful to each of them?
Told in alternating viewpoints this book is a complete, fun romp. Misunderstandings abound as two newly informed half sisters try and renovate an old family property. A little romance mixed in to lighten this book up, completely amusing..
Getting to read books written by authors who have become friends, BEFORE they release never gets old for me, and THIS book was one I have been excited about for months, knowing Alison and Bradeigh were writing together as Ali Brady! These ladies blew me away with how seamlessly they cowrote this story, and I cannot wait for all of you to read this book!
For those who loved Alison's Pieces of Me, to YA readers who adored books like You Have a Match I highly recommend this book. THE BEACH TRAP is a wonderful story about family, discovery, friendship, and love.
Kat and Blake meet at summer camp at twelve years old, and their connection is just as strong fifteen years later when they discover they have been left a beach house by their father. Each of these ladies has their own memories and reasons for wanting a different outcome for the house itself or the profits earned from selling it, which are at the core a part of who they are as individuals and they have to decide if they can work together to decide its fate.
Kat's character has a personality that seems stuck up and a bit overwhelming caught up with portraying the perfect Instagram worthy image she was raised to uphold even when she's feeling the complete opposite. Her father's death and the secret she was made to keep impacted every decision she made growing up, and now Blake is back in her life, once again taking what she deserves from her.
Blake is used to being the one left behind, having to do everything on her own. Now with her life in an in-between, she can't decide what to do or where to go, all she knows is she has to support her grandfather because he's all she has left -- even if it means having to work with Kat to get what she deserves.
Will these two sisters be able to work together, and put the past behind them?
For me, I had so much fun trying to guess how this team wrote each character, because the transitions from sister to sister, and the pacing of the story were written in such a seamless way I never would've guessed it was duo writing it! I loved each character introduced and how they added to the story, from the love interests to the family members, and how each of our main characters had their own character arc that developed as time went by.
Brady wrote such an endearing story about sisterhood full of heart, giving us a perfect beach read and making them a must-read writing duo that I know I'll be anxiously waiting to read more from!
Ugh this was soo good!! I really loved it. It was a very adorable, cute, fun weekend romance read for me. The characters were so relatable and also were fun to read, especially their banter was just chef’s kiss. And, the ending was so swoon worthy. Henceforth, it’s a perfect 5 star read for me.
Kat and Blake are sisters, but they don’t know that when they meet at camp. They were fast friends, but after they learned that their dad was keeping secrets, their friendship ended. 15 years later they are brought together again by a beach house inheritance. They both learn to be sisters, and also experience some summer love.
This is a fast paced book that fans of Emily Henry would enjoy. I didn’t feel like there was a lot of tension so that made for a light read. I didn’t really like Kate’s character. I thought she was mean and self absorbed for most of the book, but her character development made up for it. There were a lot of moments that I thought were really sweet between Kat and Blake as well as between them and their summer beaus. Overall, a nice and fast read about what it means to be a sister. Thank you Netgalley and Berkeley books for an ARC of this book.
