I’ll read anything with a sloth, about a Sloth, featuring a sloth… not really for the youngest readers, but still a good one!

This informative look at the work of Rebecca Cliffe, also known as Dr. Sloth is well-written by Suzi Eszterhas, writer and photographer. Readers learn about the sloth, where it lives, what it eats, its habits, and more. The enthusiasm of both the author and the subject of the book, Dr. Sloth, is evident. The design of the book is appealing as is its focus on the current work of an enthusiastic scientist. This is a fine addition to a science program and a great choice for classroom libraries.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This is an interesting book about how a woman grows up and becomes an expert on sloths and how she gets there.

The Adventures of Dr. Sloth takes readers on the journey of one female scientist as she discovers her love of nature to becoming an expert on the well known but little understood species of sloths. This book is full of detailed color photographs, graphs for textual reference, a glossary for the more scientific terms, and informative text laid out in a thoughtful and engaging way to help readers explore both the journey of Dr. Sloth and our growing knowledge of the sloth world. These textual features make this a great addition to any STEM collection. Readers who are interested in endangered animals, the lives of scientists, or ongoing conservation work will enjoy this book.

This nonfiction book for children is both adorable and informative. Dr. Becky Cliffe, aka Dr. Sloth, has dedicated her life to studying and protecting sloths. The book describes the significant amount of information that Dr. Cliffe has learned about sloths, which previously had not been studied to this extent. The photographs of sloths are all so cute and will be a hit with both kids and adults. There are also images of Dr. Cliffe doing her research and showing how she tracks sloths and their habits.

While there is a lot of information about “Dr. Sloth,” I would say this is more of a nonfiction book about sloths rather than a biography of the researcher, and is likely to be more enjoyed by young sloth enthusiasts or animal lovers.
