A great pick for the animal lover in your family! The photographs of the animals will invite you in and give you a better understanding of the animals discussed.
This nonfiction book about animal senses is different from other books because it details scientific studies that have been done to learn about animals in the wild. I appreciate this angle as it helps answer a question, "how do we know these things to be true?" The author is also transparent when certain information is still developing, such as the unanswered questions we still have about eels and foxes.
The book explores the various senses through animals, such as sight, hearing, and smell. The book also takes a look at some senses that humans are not privy to, such as electroreception and magnetoreception.
This book would be a great read for a curious kid wanting to learn more about how animals see, smell, or hear the world. The book is pretty short, and each chapter starts with a strong hook to pull the reader into the world of the animal.
Do you ever wonder how animals see their world? Some animals uses their super sense. Elephants can find their food in the wild by their super sense even though it is some distance away. Animals use these special senes every day. Eight animals are discussed on how their special senses help the way they see their world. Each one has the following information about them. The information given is: scientific name, secret hideout, size, weight and super sense. It is amazing what their super sense does for them as without it, they might not survive.
As I read about the different animals super sense, there was only one I knew but. Their super sense amazed me and has made want to know more. Such as what other super senses do other animals have. I liked learning about the super sense and the photographs for each animal. It’s written for children in grades 3 to 8. I think adults would enjoy and learn from this book.
This book is appealing and informative. Eight chapters are each focused on a different animal''s powerful sense that matches its lifestyle. For example a bat's echolocation which enables it to successfully navigate at night or an electric eel's use of electric pulses to find and zap its prey. For each animal there is a box listing of basic facts. Additional information is also provided about work that scientists are currently working on as well as work that has been competed to better understand the animal's use of its powerful sense. This includes describing how scientists have found innovative ways to study an animal's senses and remaining questions to answer. The text is supported by interesting photographs with captions and diagrams. Overall, the book provides new and interesting information and alerts the reader to the need for more research. Another great book by author Rebecca Hirsch.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A super cool book about awesome senses that different animals have.
Who knew what awesome super senses animals have? Each chapter focuses on a specific animal with hearing, vision, touch, smell, and taste way beyond human capabilities. Readers will also meet a scientist studying each animal. Written in engaging text, students will have graphic organizers and photos to help them absorb all the fascinating facts in each chapter.
