The fight scenes are repetitive, like so repetitive I had to reread the section to make sure I didn't accidentally reread the same line 4 times in a row. The main character is not likeable but can be mildly relatable. I love the world it's written in, and the sass is top tier. I feel like the author was fighting too hard to make the idea unique that the characters became flat instead of 3D. Initially I expected the main character to be more focused on fighting, but for some reason any time she meets a man she describes how absolutely blindingly handsome every single man is, despite being in the middle of fighting for her life.
I enjoyed this a lot, can't wait for the next one. I loved the slow build up of a crazy group, they can only get better in the next book.
First book i have read by this author and I do admit I did enjoy it, the urban fantasy world was interesting and the writing style drew me in easily.
The urban fantasy world has the usual creatures so if interested in the vampires, fae, demons, witches. I am actually looking forward to finding out about the world, characters and to me that is a good writer where i am left looking forward to the next book.
I recommend this book for those who enjoy reading about sassy strong female leads
The copy I read was an ARC provided by Net Galley
I overall enjoyed this book and if you liked the Shadowhunter universe but want something more paranormal focused and an older overtone I think this book would be for you. My only qualm is the main character’s overuse of the phrase “Rats!” I thought it was cheesy and read too young in comparison to the rest of the tone of the novel.
Bloody Charming follows Ivy, an inquisitor, who is arrested and falsely accused of murdering a fae. The book follows her as she tries to find evidence to prove her innocence. She teams up with a team of misfits, including a charming warlock, to uncover the truth.
This book was so fast paced. I blinked and half of the plot had breezed by lol. Everything was just so fast. I could barely feel anything before the next plot point came along and knocked me over.
The story was quite engaging and the characters were a good mixture of complex and funny. Despite it being so fast paced, I was easily engaged throughout the entirety of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a fast-paced paranormal fantasy, with a BA female protag and a touch of romance,
The cover also kind of gave me A Discovery of Witches vibes.
In my opinion, I liked this book. Generally I love paranormal books, and this book was great in that the author didn't waste any time getting into the action, but it was a bit too fast for me. Additionally, I couldn't even tell that the author was male in regards to the fact that the 1st person POV was female :)
A.D. Winter knows how to keep the readers engaged and turning the pages to see what will happen next. All I can say is A.D. Winter I'm ready for book two.
This book is about a strong female named Ivy who faces a uphill battle from the beginning. She is framed for a murder she didnt commit and to add to her plate she also has to stop others from becoming a meal for vampires. But something isn't adding up with all that is going on and Ivy wants to know why. What she doesn't know is she will have to let others help her to stop the murders and to clear her name. Ivy along this journey meets a few characters that each bring a something new and exciting to the group. And each one helps the other with issues they have and what they will face and they create a bond. There are twist and turns and questioning of motives and why's. Betrayal and so much more.
This book was one that kept you wanting to keep reading till the end. It brought a bunch of feelings with it from anger, sadness, triumph, and more.
Thanks for the advance copy, I was delighted to have read something by this author, I liked the book, only that at first it seemed a bit boring, but then it began to improve because of its characters and its fantasy world.
(Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an arc of this title in exchange for an honest review)
If you are looking for a fast-paced fantasy story full of snarky characters and no end of magical creatures then this book is for you. Bloody Charming follows Ivy who is wrongly accused of a crime she didn’t commit and tries to solve the case to clear her name.
Ivy is a strong, independent young woman who does things her way whether it’s right or wrong. I had mixed feelings for Ivy because although I liked how strong and capable she was, almost every response and emotion is sarcasm and at times it feels cheesy and unauthentic. In terms of the other characters I will say they, like Ivy, were memorable and distinctive which I liked.
The plot is fast paced and interesting however because so much is happening all of the time I wasn’t fully invested in the story and I wish more time and pages had been spent explaining the world, the magic system and giving more time for character development which would have made the story more memorable.
This title pleasantly surprised me. I went into this book having never read a book by A.D. Winter and without looking at a synopsis. I wanted to be surprised, and surprised I was. This book has all of the different genres that make reading most exciting such as fantasy, mystery, with a sprinkle of romance to make it a well-rounded and exciting book. This book follows Ivy who finds herself in a difficult situation when a fae dies in her presence. She is arrested and escapes jail to go on to a long journey to rectify. The story is not without its ups and downs to play carefully with the reader's emotions. Some portions of the book were a little slow to read, but in my opinion, the ending made up for all of it. Would absolutely read a subsequent book....

I’m a huge fan of the urban fantasy genre, and I’m always on the lookout for new series. This one caught my eye. It was excellent. I admit that at first, Ivy really got on my nerves just a tiny bit, but she really grew on me throughout the book. Aside from that little distraction, there was lots of action, mishaps, fun, and an all-around good time. This was a well-written urban fantasy that is sure to please a fan of the genre. I’m definitely looking forward to the next in the series. This is an interesting world, and I can’t wait to explore it more. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This book was a fun, exciting and easy fantasy read. It was the first time I read a book from this author and I was extremely surprised and pleased at how well written and engaging the prose was. There were moments of shock, laughter and straight up pain. I truly enjoyed every minute of reading this and couldn’t put it down!
The universe where the story occurs has a significant array of magical creatures such as Fae, vampires, demons, witches and warlocks! It was jammed packed with sooo much action, I felt like I was in movie with action, blood, fire and comedy! At the start I initially found the lead character to be a bit annoying because of devil may care attitude but I gotta admit it grows on you!
The main character is called Ivy an orphan who is also sassy Inquisitor (a magical police office of sorts) who lands in a spot of trouble when a Fae dies in her presence. This starts off our story when Ivy gets arrested and escapes jail. After which she meets a hot guy and battles an annoying headmistress. Unfortunately in addition to the wins in the novel there are also some hurts especially when the person who mentored and rescued Ivy as a child dies in battle but not before passing on to her some kick ass powers!!
The ending was perfection! But am not gonna spoil it…you’re just gonna have to read it yourself. We got a bit of a mystery thrown in there, that has hooked me for future books regarding Ivy’s parentage. Can’t wait for that reveal!
Read this book if you like action packed fantasy with a powerful female lead. Readers who love Armentrout and Maas will love this author…I definitely think you should give her a try!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me this ARC. I am leaving my honest review.
I've never read this author before. I'm not sure if this book is part of a series.
The world building was confusing. There was a mish mash of elements from different magical systems. Fae, vampires and Grimm World combine to gorm a confusing world.
I wasn't a huge fan of the MC. She was supposed to be snarky and sassy but for me, she fell flat.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Independent Book Publishers Association for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is my first time reading this author. I am not sure if this is the first in a series or not. I was a little lost as the world building was not enough for me. It assumed that I knew things..which I was clueless. I did like the main characters, and the variety of characters. I found this to be an interesting read, a lot of suspense, and mystery (like who are the good guys anyway?), a tiny smidge of romance. lots of paranormal and fantasy. Overall a 3.5 star. I would read book 2.
