There is action galore in this first of a new series by Janet Evanovich. The Recovery Agent is a young lady who does just what the title indicates. She recovers lost or missing things, mainly those of great monetary or historical value. In this, the first quest of her new series, Ms. Evanovich has the heroine seeking lost treasure in the beautiful islands of the Caribean. With her now ex-husband's help, she is seeking valuable treasure to assist with the much-needed financing of the restoration of her family's neighborhood. The book reads like the treasure adventure that it is and sets the stage for more action-oriented stories like this by seasoned author Janet Evanovich.. The new character is appealing as is her ex-husband and the banter between them sizzles with sexual attraction. Between her problem-solving acumen and his many skills as a survivalist, the two are set to find some missing artifacts.. The two also encounter and befriend some other interesting characters. Twists and turns of the plot make this an entertaining read. Thanks to #NetGalley#TheRecoveryAgent for the opportunity to read and review this thriller.
This is the first Evanovich book I've ever read. I did not open this one with an expectation of high literature, but I confess I was a bit surprised at the simplicity of the text. Short sentences, limited vocabulary, lots of action. In some parts I felt like I was reading a script for an action movie.
That said, this was a roaring good story! Gabs and Rafer are a totally fun couple and the adventure was so over the top that it alternately made me cringe and laugh and cheer.
I expect Evanovich fans will thoroughly enjoy this, as will those who like a good mystery/adventure that doesn't require a lot of thinking. Totally escapist reading that will surely appeal to a broad audience.
Everytime Janet comes out with a new book I squeal , I get super excited. Was this a Stephanie Plum novel NO .However it is something to get excited, about Janet introduces readers to a new story. To a new character , Gabriela, and I absolutely adore her ,just as much as Stephanie. I am looking forward to see Gabriela's series develop over time. So much potential here , and I truly hope there's more .
Great start to a new series. Fun & entertaining read, exactly what you would expect from this author. Gabriela Rose, who is a recovery agent hired to find missing assets and treasures, and with the help of her ex-husband and a ghost, go on a mission to recover a lost treasure because they need money to help save their home town. As usual there is an entertaining cast of side characters, and humor involved. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I received this advance review copy from from NetGalley for my honest review.
I loved this book!!! I loved learning about Peru and ancient cultures I knew nothing about. The chemistry between ex-spouses Gabriela and Rafer was so good some of the conversations between them had me laughing so hard, this book was so action packed I could not stop reading and blew thru this book as fast as I could. I don't normally read adventure type books but I'm so glad that I did. I really hope that this is the first book in a new series starring Gabriela and Rafer, do they get back together, what's the next adventure for these two hopefully we will have more to come.
Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley. My review opinion is my own.
This was a departure series from the author's usual Stephanie Plum series. Readers will be pleased with this new series. This has a more adventurous protagnist to engage with the reader and real adventure throughout which is fun to read. Its a bit of Indiana Jones vs. the elements. I enjoyed this book and the protagnist is fantastic. She is quirky, funny and courageous . I look forward to further adventures of this promising new series .
A pretty standard Janet Evanovich book. If you enjoy reading her stuff you will probably enjoy this.
I've enjoyed other titles by this author before. However, this one has no depth at all. Everything moves by rote with no sense that these characters feel any emotions and the stakes never seem to matter, which makes it hard to be invested in the story. If the story were funnier or the characters more flamboyant I might be able to overlook these things, but everything just seemed so shallow.
Stephanie Plum meets Indian Jones in this first book of a new series. Janet Evanovich fans will not be disappointed in this high adventure romp. Gabriella Rose recovers lost stuff. When her home town is obliterated by a hurricane, she sets out to find the Seal of Solomon to cash in funds to rebuild the town. Unfortunately, her ex-husband decides he would tag along, as the map for the treasure was in the basement of the home he got when they divorced. This book has sit on the edge of your seat excitement, and deep down chuckles from the relationship Gabs and he ex share. I highly recommend this book, and look forward to the next book in the series.
such a delightful read I had to give 4 stars!
This is my 46th Janet Evanovich novel and yep read all the Stephanie Plum stories. I am a fan. Typically Stephanie and her group had me laughing out loud. I can remember listening to an audiobook in my car and I had to pull to the side of the road until I could stop laughing.
I am almost ready for that series to end ~ not sure what is left for our ‘bounty hunter’ to do.
I am excited and ready for a new series; but Gabriela sure has a tough act to follow!
This is the first in the Gabriela Rose series. Gabriela is a recovery agent ~ if you lost something ~ she knows how to get it back!
In this story she needs to find a lost treasure as her family as well as the entire is in need of money as they are trying to rebuild of a storm as destroyed most of the town.
So she is off to Peru to find the lost treasure of Cortez only this job also comes with her smokin –hot ex-husband Rafer as he has the map!
Aww Janet Evanovich does not disappoint. These characters are a delight.
Looking forward to more of the Gabriela Rose and Rafer!!
At the end of this book there is an excerpt from the new Stephanie Plum "Going Rogue" coming out November 2022.

I'm a big Stephanie Plum fan and it had been awhile since I read a Janet Evanovich book. I requested to read her newest adventure coming out, never for a second expecting it to get approved!!!
Thank you Atria Books for this ARC eGalley via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
And I'll start by saying: I'll be honest that it took til about chapters 7 or 8 to get into, not bc it wasnt good, but I had to keep reminding myself I wasn't reading Stephanie Plum...I was meeting Gabriela Rose! By the teens (chapters) I was completely invested and started to really enjoy all the new faces 😊 and I hope to see Gabs and Rafer again soon!
After failing to retrieve an amulet that she had been contracted to find and return, Gabriella returns to her small South Carolina hometown to find it hasn’t recovered from a event hurricane. With a developer wanting to buy out families who can’t afford to rebuild, Gabriella’s grandmother sends her to her former house to find a hidden chest with papers and maps that were left by supposed distant descendent Blackbeard and Annie, who died after giving birth to their child. (Annie is also the one who spoke to Gabriella’s grandmother even though she’s been dead for….awhile.)
Suddenly with two weeks clear thanks to a recovery that was found without her help, Gabriella decides to go to her former inherited home that her ex got in the divorce. Discovered while searching under his bed for the trapdoor to the hidden room, her ex, Rafer, decides to hear Gabriella out about this chest hidden under his house. Upon finding (to her surprise!) the chest, Gabriella discovers intel about the rumored Seal of Solomon and now she has a recovery that could save her hometown from an overzealous developer. The catch: Rafer wants in on the hunt.
As with any Evanovich book, there is quite the case of characters within the pages. You have the independent female lead, a gorgeous love interest that loves pushing the female leads buttons, an eccentric family, and escapades along the way. This book was a little bit Romancing the Stone, The Mummy, and quite possibly Rambo with the gun power involved. It was a delightful read from the always magnificent Evanovich. Fans of her other books will surely savor the book from start to finish. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stephanie Plum, anyone? Well, maybe not quite so silly. Yes, recovery agent Gabriela Rose is feisty - a good thing - and still pretending to fend off the advances of a hunky man (but this time it's just one, her ex-husband Rafer - a guy she's been best friends with since elementary school and with whom she's still in lust). Gabriela's grandma in storm-ravaged Scoon, South Carolina, regularly gets messages from a spirit named Annie, but at least she's not chasing ambulances and crashing wakes like Stephanie's Grandma Mazur. Gone, (happily, IMHO), is the equivalent of Stephanie's ridiculously off-the-wall cohort Lulu (she of the wild hairdos, skanky clothes and penchant for fried chicken). But one of the things I loved about the other series, the humorous lines that never failed to make me chuckle, thankfully have been carried over and sprinkled liberally herein.
This quite a romp, even for the creator of the inimitable Stephanie Plum. Her new series begins with a very Indiana Jones feel to it. There are jungles, islands, rivers and perils galore. Gabriela and Rafer fight like Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone. But it certainly moves right along. Gabriela has been a in South American jungles twice before the book is a quarter over. One of the things I like the best is that I can quite literally “hear” the voices of the characters: Gabriela and Rafer, of course; Pepe and Caballo in Peru; but also Marcella the assistant and Gitten the scholar. That to me, is good writing (though the voice I never quite got was El Dragón). I’d love to sit down with Evanovich and ask where she got the idea, and how she did the research. Fans of Evanovich and those who have never read her will want to sign on for this fun adventure.
I love a good humorous, action-adventure, mystery book. This started out great but it fell short.
Gabriella Rose is a recovery agent, she’s strong, black belt in Martial Arts and overall awesome. I liked her and how great she was.
Even though she’s a recovery agent, this book wasn’t really about her doing a job but it was more of a personal nature to help her parents and their town which was devastated after a hurricane.
Her ex-husband Rafer and her go on an adventure to find an artifact that would help the town. Her grandmother was an interesting woman, not forgetting Annie.
The characters are likeable but I honestly don’t get the hots for your ex.
I was given an Advance copy by the publisher via NetGalley, in exchange for a honest review.
Love Stephanie Plum and started this book sure that I wouldn't like it and no one could take her place!! Boy was I wrong!
Gabriela Rose was every bit as quirky, funny and accident prone as Stephanie - but lots smarter and able to take care of herself!
Loved Rafe and Pepe - great sidekicks - hope they both continue. Can't wait for the next one.
A great start to a new series by Janet Evanovich. The characters are fun and quirky. The book starts a little slow, but then it will grab your attention and the action picks up in intensity. If your looking for a great fun read to escape with, this is the book for you!
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
First, let me say I am a HUGE Janet Evanovich fan. I have read every single Stephanie Plum Novel, including all of the in between the Plums. I’ve also read all of the Lizzie and Diesel Novels as well. Gabriella had a brief cameo and one of the recent Stephanie Plum novels and I was super excited to see she would have her own series. The book is what I have come to expect from Evanovich, an easy and quick read with humor and crazy villains. I read this one in about 24 hours, it moved quickly and kept my interest. It did not have quite the amount of humor and general ridiculousness of the Plum Novels. I also wasn’t a huge fan of the main Characters. Gabriella is cold and reckless and Rafer, while clearly handsome doesn’t have the same effect as Ranger or Morelli. I think Pepe was my favorite character; he was funny! Hopefully, he becomes a permanent character in the series. While this one wasn’t a win for me it wasn’t a loss either. I will still plan read the next one. I just hope as the series continues Gabriella will grow on me a bit. Thank you @netgalley and the publisher for the E-Arc in exchange for an honest review.
As someone who has read and enjoyed all of the Stephanie Plum novels, I was looking forward to this new series from Evanovich and, ultimately, it didn’t disappoint. The one drawback was that it was a slow starter, and my interest wavered in the beginning. However, the story picked up midway, and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely read more of this series. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
While catching up with the Perez sisters was terrific, the real take away of this novel is the how experience of losing ones country shapes their entire future. Every Chanel Cleeton book is a must read.
