I received a copy of this book for review from NetGalley. Gabriela is in a quandary; her hometown has been devastated by a hurricane, and it will take millions of dollars of aid that they will not get to recover. Her family ghost has hinted that there is the key to a fabulous treasure hidden under the floorboards of her old house, but that house went to Gabriela's ex in their divorce. Determined to save her family, Gabriela is forced to accept the help from her ex, and they jump feet first into a treasure hunt. Along the way they have to deal with drug lords, half-blind pilots, snakes, explosions, and cultists that also want the treasure.
Was this the best book I've ever read? No. Was this a fun read? Absolutely. This book is pretty much a surface-level read. The characters are fun, but don't have a lot of depth. I don't really buy the chemistry between Gabriela and Raker, but I can also see that improving over the course of the series. I enjoyed it enough that I will probably read the rest of the series as it is released, but this is not one of my favorites.

I've been reading Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series for nearly two decades now, and while the storylines have become a little repetitive and increasingly ridiculous over the years, it's the humor and distinct characterizations that keep me eagerly awaiting the next book. So when I saw that Evanovich was writing a new action/adventure series, of course I had to check it out. THE RECOVERY AGENT follows Gabriela Rose, whose job is to recover stolen property, as she travels the world in search of a lost pirate treasure that has ties to her family in order to save her crumbling hometown.

It has a different feel, as it takes place not only in the United States, but in other countries as well, and yet it still feels like classic Evanovich. I enjoyed the same sense of humor in this story, although as Gabriela is incredibly competent at her job (unlike Stephanie Plum) I did miss all the situational humor that Stephanie's incompetence provides in that series. But Evanovich definitely knows how to write entertaining grandmothers, and I hope that Gabriela's grandmother (and the supposed ghost Annie) will have a place in future books in this series. Since this book took place in multiple locations, I also felt like I missed the way Evanovich developed such a strong sense of place in the Stephanie Plum series. In that one, Trenton, New Jersey feels like its own character, and I just don't know if she'll ever have the opportunity to play around with a setting in the same way with this series.

Ultimately, while I can't say I loved this book the way I love the Stephanie Plum books, I definitely enjoyed it. I liked Gabriela Rose as a smart, strong, and stubborn main character. I also really liked the interaction between her and her ex-husband Rafer who tags along on this adventure. Although I would have loved to see some more romance or heat between them, and I really hope he pops up in future books. All of the side characters were entertaining as well. If you like your adventure stories with a lot of humor and a touch of ridiculousness, you should check this one out. THE RECOVERY AGENT is available now.

This is the first in a new series by Evanovich, and while certainly different from the Stephanie Plum series, her humorous writing style still shines through. Instead of chasing criminals who have skipped bail, Gabriela Rose recovers things that are lost, stolen, or have otherwise disappeared. She is from Scoon, South Carolina, a town that was nearly wiped out by a Cat 4 hurricane and is now in need of money, lots of money, to rebuild or disappear. Gabriela’s grandmother tells her of a map that will lead her to a long lost treasure in South America - the Ring of Solomon and the treasure of Cortez - and thus enough money to save the town. But the map is under the floorboards of her old house which she had given to her ex-husband, Rafer, when they divorced. Rafer is an interesting character who clearly wants his wife back, so he agrees to let Gabriela have the map if he can accompany her on the search. The two of them make a good team, but they are constantly going at each other (in a humorous way, of course). Finding the treasure in Peru needs a good guide, which they get in two natives who also have a way to make the ready smile with their comments, and a cartel drug lord who has been searching for the same treasure for a long time. Plenty of action, plenty of humor, and another fun read from an author who has clearly found her niche. My thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my review.

Fun adventure beach read. Fans of Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series will see many similarities between the leads, right down to the possibly crazy grandmother. Far more violent than the Plum series and perhaps more on par with the Fox and O'Hare series. I'd happily read more from this series

Gabriela is an insurance fraud investigator. When her grandmother sees a ghost, it directs Gabriela to a treasure chest that has information on a long list ring. Unfortunately for her, the chest is at her ex husbands house. Together, they fly all over the world trying to obtain the ring.
Opinion
I’m true Evanovich fashion, this book is a hilarious, action packed adventure. If you are a fan of the Stephanie Plum series, this is right up your alley. The tension between Gabriela and Rafer (her ex) is a fabulous diversion to the dangers they put themselves in. The support characters have some major flaws that work to the couples advantage. This is a great summer read, just perfect to sit and relax with.
Many thanks to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book.

Two exes team up searching for a missing treasure that will solve problems for each of them. I enjoyed the banter and chemistry between Gabriella and Rafer. These two exes still have sizzling chemistry as they are dropped into an unknown world full of drug dealers and dangerous snakes in Peru. Somewhat of a modern take on Tomb Raider, this was a fun adventure romance. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy!

The Recovery Agent by Janet Evanovich is the first in a new adventurous mystery series Gabriela Rose. The story in The Recovery Agent is being compared to things like Indiana Jones or Romancing the Stone which is a fair comparison.

Gabriela Rose is a recovery agent, someone that is hired to find lost treasures of any kind whatever the reasoning whether it’s lost or stolen or even insurance theft Gabriela tracks things down. When Gabriela returns from finishing her latest mission to visit her family she finds that they need her services too. The family believes there is a treasure out there that will help save their small town from developers.

Janet Evanovich is a huge author that I haven’t had much opportunity to read myself so seeing that The Recovery Agent was a new series I had to hop right in. The thing I found with this new series is it was a lot of over the top action which really I kept thinking this would probably make a great movie but for me isn’t my favorite to read. The story was solid with a lot of laughs along the way so if action and adventure is up your alley you may enjoy this one a lot more than I did myself.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

“The Recovery Agent,” by Janet Evanovich, Atria Books, 320 pages, March 22, 2022.

Gabriela Rose is a recovery agent hired to find missing assets. She deals mainly with insurance fraud.

As the story opens, she is in an Ecuadorian rainforest. She was hired to find Henry Dodge, an archeologist, and retrieve an amulet.

When she gets back to an area with cell phone service, she gets a call from her mother, Maeberry Rose. Her maternal grandmother, Fanny, lives with her parents in Scoon, a South Carolina coastal town that was heavily damaged in a hurricane. A developer is trying to buy the properties. Gabriela agrees to go see them.

Fanny regularly gets messages from a spirit named Annie. She said Annie gave her a plan to save the town. She knows where a map is to the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Cortez. But Gabriela’s ex-husband Rafer Jones owns the house where the map is supposedly hidden. They divorced a week before their second wedding anniversary.

They find the map, but Rafer insists on going with Gabriela to the jungles of Peru to try to find the treasure. They hire Pepe and Caballo as their guides. Gabriela is the first to see two men following them. They work for El Dragon, a drug lord, who is also after the Ring of Solomon.

This is a quick, light-hearted read. The characters are amusing. This book seems very similar to Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books and is the first in a new series. In addition to the 28 Plum novels, she has coauthored the Fox and O’Hare series, the Knight and Moon series, the Lizzy and Diesel series, the Alexandra Barnaby novels, and a graphic novel.

In accordance with FTC guidelines, the advance reader's edition of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a review.

🌟 3.5/5
🌶 0.25/5
📇 I’ve been reading Janet’s Stephanie Plum novels for as long as I can remember. Thus, I was ecstatic when @netgalley allowed me access to a new series by her that featured a similar (but obviously different) strong female MC. While not as light-hearted as her Plum novels, there seems to be more substance behind the relationship storyline here, which I enjoyed.

The best things:
🔹Gabriela is a kick-ass boss woman. Loved that about her. She can afford the finer things in life and she isn’t afraid to own it (I see you La Perla)
🔹The banter and undertones between her and Rafer (excited to see where this leads)
🔹Pepe and Caballo - they just made me chuckle

The worst things:
🔹It was a bit slow to get into and then I felt like it wrapped up too quickly. Then again, this is a series so there will likely be lots more.
🔹I was getting frustrated with how they would succeed and then fail, but this is also what kept me hooked, so pro/con.

End notes:
🔹Worth it - excited to see a new series from Janet and continue to follow Gabriela on her high-stakes adventures!

And of course, thank you to Net Galley for this fun ARC!

I have been a fan of Janet Evanovich for years and years. The Stephanie Plum series holds a special place in my heart. So when I found out she was going to start a new series with a new leading lady, I was ecstatic. And The Recovery Agent did not disappoint.

If you need something found, Gabriela Rose is the woman to call. She travels the world recovering artifacts and missing treasures. Her most recent mission: To find the lost Ring of Solomon so she can use the money to help her hometown. She heads to Peru with her hot ex-husband and the help of some sketchy but sweet, maybe drug pushers. They find a crazy cult and lot more than she bargained for.

I honestly loved Gabriela and Rafer so much. They were married in the past but haven't seen each other in a long time. Their banter was so funny and I loved watching them kind of re learn each other. The side characters were also a lot of fun.

Overall this book was a wild ride. There was action, romance and humor--- everything I love in a book. Janet Evanovich has a way of writing a mixture of the three in a way that makes me love every single character. Including the villain. I can not wait to see what adventure Gabriela goes on next.

I remember picking up Evanovich’s One For the Money one summer during middle school where I needed a book for the beach. I read it in a few hours and my love for easy, cozy mysteries began. Since I have read most of the Stephanie Plum books, I knew I had to check out her new series featuring a recovery agent. In the same vein as Plum stories, you have a strong female character, a sometimes love interest, and a mystery to be solved. I still prefer the OG Plum series but I’d definitely give this another go with book two. This was super quick, enjoyable and a perfect distraction.

This book was just okay for me. I liked that it wasn't a super long read, but it just wasn't really that exciting to me. If you enjoy other books by this author, I would assume that you will enjoy this as well. The characters were not extremely likeable for me and I didn't feel that I really got to know them, which is important to me.

👍🏼👍🏼 Janet Evanovich has done it again!

I loved falling into Gabriella Rose’s world! You might recognize her from a recent appearance in a Stephanie Plum novel where she was hired to recover some stolen diamonds, but she stands alone in this novel.

Janet is masterful in her character development connecting Gabriella to a small, coastal hometown, thrilling and risky job, historical lore, and one heck of a childhood friend/ex-husband (😍🔥).

As the family tells it, Gabriella is a descendant of the famed pirate, Blackbeard, and she seems to have a knack for finding people and treasures. Led by the family ghost, Annie, Gabriella hacks her way through the jungle and beyond to find a legendary treasure that she hopes will be enough to save her hometown from the recent destruction of a hurricane. Along the way she makes friends with a cast of eccentric characters and gets paired with her ex-husband whom she’s known since kindergarten (who has aged quite well, I might add 😉).

😳 Oh and the bad guy? A worshipper and sorcerer of the Incan God of Death with a thing for snakes.

Go get you a copy!!🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Gabriella Rose kicks a**

This is the first book in a new series by Janet Evanovich. Yes, there are some similarities to Stephanie Plum - humor, grandmother, and more - but Gabriella is seriously ninja warrior-like. She is a recovery agent, finding lost objects or people plus she investigates insurance fraud.

In this starting book, she and her hottie ex-husband Rafer go on a treasure hunt for the lost Ring of Solomon (think ROMANCING THE STONE or INDIANA JONES, which this book borrows heavily from) but Gabriella is looking for the Ring to save her and Rafer's hometown where their families still live.

Like all of Evanovich's books, this one is a quick, fun, irreverent read. I enjoyed the treasure hunting aspects of it and I enjoyed Gabriel's different skillsets. The side characters were fun too.

I recommend this book and I will be looking forward to the next book in the series.

I received this book from Atria Books through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.

Great start to a new series, as it ends with you wanting more. Nonstop action, great characters, no lull time, just jumps from one adventure to another. Another Evanovich book with humor and crazy situations. Fun, entertaining, and gets you out of your own life to adventure and with characters that are clever and smart. Hopefully Pepe and Caballo will appear in future stories, they were fun. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an honest opinion.

So you have enjoyed the adventures of Stephanie Plum in the long- lasting series by Evanovich? Then this first entry in her new series will likely please you too! (As I only read Number 1, One for the Money, perhaps I’m not a fair judge.) A gutsy female protagonist with a lot of character, check. A colorful “mystery lite” complicated by bad guys in a dangerous setting, check. Family affairs in disarray add tension- and some humor. If you want to escape for awhile, maybe The Recovery Agent will fit the bill for you.

I became a Janet Evanovich fan last year on October 1st,2021. I was driving my friend home from Walmart and I said pick any audiobook anything just make sure it has a crazy title. He picked book 26 in the Stephanie Plum series. I finished it that day and went on to reading the entire series out of order. I literally read 26-13 in 2 weeks. I was hooked then I read 1-12 and I decided this is my new favorite author. I instantly because completely obsessed with her brand of comedy and action. It’s rare that you find the best of both worlds in a series and this one delivered with that class Evanovich charm. I am desperate to see where this series goes but I know I will continue to love it. Our main character is a recovery agent and she is a total bad (momma shut your mouth). She is quirky and doesn’t take no for an answer and even when she’s just a little bit afraid she takes care of business. Of course I would recommend this book to a friend. We all have it on preorder because I am addicted to highlighting. I hope that anyone else who gives this a shot enjoys it as much as I did.
Special thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for an ARC all opinions are my own.
Happy reading everyone 🥰😍😘😍

Janet Evanovich knocks another one out of the park! This book is riddled with action packed exploits and world travel. Gabs is the pursuer, becomes pursued and finally turns pursuer again. All hinges on the acquisition and ability to keep what very well could be a ring on equal plane as the holy grail, The Ring of Solomon. This one will keep you turning pages. Thanks Janet, for another entertaining read. I'm looking forward to reading more about Gabriela and Rafer.

If you love Indiana Jones, you will LOVE this new (hopefully what could be a series) from author Janet Evanovich.
The Recovery Agent stars agent Gabriela Rose, in this action packed mystery. Really making the reader feel like you’re reading through a blockbuster movie you’ll want to watch over again!
Gabriela is what you call, a recovery agent, and she makes her living literally looking for lost/stolen items. It’s as adventurous as it sounds! I loved reading this one, and I really hope it’s the first in it’s series, because I definitely want to continue along on Gabriela’s journey.
Yes! To the captivating synopsis! Yes! To the amazing Female Lead Character! Yes! To the story plot and development!

This is a new series by Janet Evanovich. You can definitely see this is her style of writing. The plot is fast moving, the characters Gabriela and Rafer are a dynamic duo despite their divorce., and honestly it was a easy read. I would definitely want to continue reading this series to see where she takes is next.
