From the first time I heard about Bone Weaver on Twitter, I have wanted to read it. I personally don't know too much about Slavic folklore but the description of the book intrigued me. And upon getting to read it, I enjoyed the story from start to finish. The pacing was very quick and I honestly suggest that if you have no knowledge of Slavic folklore as well, you start by reading the Glossary of Terms used in the book. As it helps make getting the grasp of the story far easier.

I found the characters to be very well written. And the trio of MCs works well together as to how they bounce off one another. Though any sort of small romance bits in the middle felt kinda like they were put there to check off that particular YA trope. But I enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher of this novel for the E-Arc copy. I am rating this book based on my own personal opinion and was not given anything in return. I am not leaving a entire review because I read so many at a time that I physically cannot right now. #BoneWeaver #NetGalley

I thought the atmospheric setting was engaging and enjoyed the characters. I loved the relationship and connection between the trio. I did get a bit lost in the middle and thought the pacing slipped, but the strength of characters and amazing magic system kept me going.

I was so excited to get to read this book because the synopsis makes it seems like the most interesting thing in the world but while actually reading it I almost fell asleep multiple times. I just couldn't help myself. The world created would be interesting if it weren't for the excessive little details that make reading it an excruciating process. Everything in the world has a name, from the countries to different species, titles to describe different positions in the political scheme, different groups that fought for different things, languages and powers, and trying to keep up with every name was so hard >for me< because everything seemed like the same thing.
And the character felt too two-dimensional, like not deep at all, just plain, boring characters that were created to serve the purpose of the plot, not having a personality aside from it. They felt extremely unfeeling too.
The plot was also boring, with too many things happening in such a short period of time but none of them actually being interesting or compelling.

I have to say I really did enjoy the amount and depth of world-building we got in this book. I thought that it really helped support the magic system, and vice versa. The world was also really rich, which was super immersive and I loved it. The characters were also really fleshed out and I thought they each had a unique voice! I think the pacing of this book was a little strange--the pacing was really fast in the beginning and it really drew me in, and then the middle third of the book really, really dragged, but the end really picked up in pace again. I think that aside from the pacing, it was really well done and I would love to read more in this world! I definitely recommend that you give this a shot when it comes out!

The story has some major strengths. The magic system, the world-building, and the characters all work together very well. However, I struggled to get through the book. It grabbed my attention at the beginning but lost it towards the middle and only grabbed it again at the very end. The pacing just wasn’t quite where it needed to be, for me. I enjoyed the story immensely and I wish I didn’t feel like I had to push myself to read through about half the book.

I loved this fantasy novel about three young people trying to find the protagonist's unusual sister and end up creating world-shaking changes through magic and love and smart thinking. The world, its magic, and its peoples are well-crafted and deep, full of detail and character. It's easy to get pulled in by the adventure and fast pacing, and the elements of hope and resistance and persistence are part of what makes falling into this story so welcome. I also love the way the character relationships evolve, and how it models a lovely romantic trio of a straight woman, a bi man, and a gay man. I hope there will be more books set in this universe from the author.

[[thank you to netgalley for the arc of bone weaver]]

so, bone weaver was an interesting book. there were parts i liked, and then parts that i thought meh, this could be improved on (maybe in the second book...?).

i enjoyed our teenage characters, although they were more flippant than most. toma, our heroine, got on my nerves far too much. still, she was strong, and awesome, and her companions, mikhail and vanya were great. the relationships between all three held up, and the dialogue was great.

i also enjoyed our magical creatures. i liked learning about their descriptions, personalities, and what they favored. it was brand new to me, and i think it was a beautiful addition to this book.

there was a bit of a lull in the middle. the beginning was packed, then a percentage of the middle of the book was flat, and then it gets jam packed again about 60% in. lots of action towards the end, and very exciting. i did not want to put the book down.

if you are sensitive to gore, or monsters, or anything that is uncanny, i do NOT suggest this book for you. it has high amounts, and personally i enjoyed all of that aspect, but i can also see why it would be unsettling to most.

unfortunately, i thought the title was misleading, but i really thought about an alternate title and could not think of one (after knowing the context of the book). there is a glossary in the back, which is welcomed!!! i just read it on e-book, and did not know until the very end that there was one. i just used my dictionary app, which was not really a problem for me. i would suggest reading in as a hardcover.

A beautiful Russian based fantasy. the magic system is fascinating and well thought out. Toma is a wonderful character who has flaws and issues but loves so deeply. I loved watching her grow with Mikhail and Vonya. Everything about this story was filled with love and I couldn't put it down.
Toma is a girl who can keep her zombie family put together. literally she sews them back together when they break down. when she finds Mikhail in need of help and uses those same stitches to heal him she learns about herself. Her little zombie sister is stolen and she and Mikhail set off to rescue her. Along the way they find Vonya the rebel who helps them track the child and they grow to be a little family. the blossoming of Tomas power and her determination to keep everyone she loves together and okay is beautiful and I loved her so much.

Bone Weaver, by Aden Polydoros, is a dark fantasy about three very different strangers on a journey together in a world full of the benevolent undead.
I enjoyed this book immensely, and love Polydoros writing, with its very unique voice, and fantastic world-building. The Russian-inspired setting is a favorite of mine, and the writer does it very well. The characters are amazing, and very relatable and fleshed-out—I found myself rooting for them all, even when their goals contradicted one another. More than anything, I loved watching the main trio search for their place in this sometime unforgiving world full of magic and monsters.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a little creature with their magical feature, and is mature enough to handle the heavy themes.
4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks very much to Inkyard Press and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Sadly, DNF (30%). This just wasn't the book for me. While the plot sounded interesting to me, and I love fantasy with a healthy dose of political intrigue, this fell flat. I felt little connection with the characters, and they didn't seem to have much connection to each other, either. The main trio gets thrown together purely by coincidence and I had no idea why any of them would stick together. I'm also not really interested in the fantasy/horror genre, and while this wasn't very gory, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

I received this as an ARC from Net Galley.

Bone Weaver is a magical fantasy set during a time of war
between different factions. I enjoyed this story and believe
that the author did a good job of slowly revealing how the
magic worked in this world. I still have several questions
about it and really want to know more about the main female
character's embroidery. I do not really understand the title of
the book - it just doesn't make sense with the story. The
settings were richly described and the main characters were
multi-faceted. I do wish we had gotten more of their
interaction at the end and had found out more about what
happens to them.

Great standard fantasy, reminiscent of some of the classics bit with a real modern twist, is recommend to anyone who wants an exhilarating plot and characters to fall in love with.

I. Adored. This. Book. I devoured it in two sittings. I'm super excited to recommend this title to our school librarians and my high school students. The writing and imagery was great, and while I wanted more backstory to add to the main character, I still feel like Polydoros created a multidimensional main character (other characters did lack a bit). I really loved the incorporation of Russian folklore, and I think my students will resonate with the found family and Toma's growth in the book.

This was absolutely mesmerizing. The writing and imagery, just WOW. I was absolutely captivated. The desperate quest Toma sets out on is one I think we all would. The need for Toma to find Galina being something we all would experience in her situation. I loved the characters, all of the creatures and what they represented, it was all so easy to follow. Of course I’m incredibly curious about what Toma actually is, considering we never got a confirmation of what, if anything. I would have liked to see a little more character development with both Vanya and Mikhail. I knew they had a large purpose, however they didn’t have too much of a backstory for us to see the development from. I will say, a map would have been incredibly helpful. Otherwise, this book just blew me away with the imagery.

I received the Bone Weaver through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book and the world, I felt so immersed in it each time I began reading. I adored the characters and the plot. This was not what I expected, but in the best way to be honest. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the authors further publications.

This is an interesting adventure story based in Russian lore. I enjoyed the characters and the magic that was around. The setting is a mix of various time periods with some medieval and others industrial times.
