This is your typical academy read until you really get into the story. The characters are complex and stand out in the story. The world building is lovely. The plot was exceptional and it draws you into the story. You can't put it down. I would definitely recommend this book.
I really enjoyed the word building with this book. The characters while many were interesting and I was drawn into their world and wanted to know more.
I felt there were too many partners introduced. There was not enough time for each to really develop as characters and relationships. I hope in the next instalment more time is given to the others in the relationship.
There is one season that turned my stomach and I will never be able to forget. It almost put me off the whole book. I hope there is nothing like this in the next book.
Wren's been isolate much of her life - an artic fox in a pack of wolves. Her only friend Thorn - an ice fae prince - is about to leave her to attend Fate Hollow Academy. Just when things look the darkess, fate intervenes inviting Wren to the academy. Suddenly Wren is surrounded by people - and strange connections begin to form. Wren always believed that she would never find her fated mates - turns out fate has something different planned for her.
Although the insta-attraction from the males involved felt a little forced, the characters themselves were unique and engaging. I especially liked Thorn and Damien. The plot was well-paced. I look forward to more books in this series
Fate Hollow is the academy of the elite, where supernatural beings with special magic train for war against humans.A big-hearted, naïve arctic fox shifter like me couldn’t have prepared for the treachery lurking within the walls of the academy. Students were going missing or turning up dead on campus and rumors circulated about humans infiltrating academy grounds. When I started reading I couldn't put it down. Lyra Winters is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book
I received access to this book before it blew up on Booktok, but it took me a second to actually read it which kind of sucked because I saw so much hype for it on my "For You Page". This just pushed me to read it ASAP.
I'm normally not a huge fan of large harems because I feel like all of the men take on the same personality and are hard to differentiate - but that was NOT the case here. Each of Wren's men were clearly different and very enjoyable.
Thorn- Ice fae, prince, can read minds
Alister- Vampire, professor, can control blood
Damien-Shadow demon, feeds off pain
Kain- Necromancer, can see the future
Lachlan- Werewolf, can use magic
Rhett- Incubus, very powerful, counselor
Rowan- Fire drake, headmaster of the academy
I really enjoyed this book and as soon as I realized I was almost finished with it, I wish I had the second book ASAP. While it didn't end on a "cliffhanger," it ended and I wasn't happy.
Tropes include: age-gap, teacher/student, rejected mates, large harem, friends to lovers, and tons more!
Thank you Netgalley and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I feel like I really wanted to enjoy this book but I ended up feeling like I disliked this book. I feel like some of the characters were underdeveloped and I couldn't care for them.
Enjoyable read, story pulls together nicely, makes you want more so glad this is a series, love the characters and the cover makes it stand out.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author, Lyra Winters, for providing a copy of Fate Hollow Academy: Term 1 (Fate Hollow Academy book 1). I have reviewed honestly.
Fate Hollow Academy features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ NA fantasy
○ Reverse Harem
○ Supernatural Academy
○ Fated mates
○ Fae
○ Shifters
○ Vampires
○ Demons
My overall rating for Fate Hollow Academy is…
4 Stars!
What a fun and unsuspecting tale! Fate Hollow Academy: Term 1 was an exciting book; it was sexy and quirky, yeah the writing wasnt perfect but it had a certain level of captivation that kept me glued to the page. Wren was such a beautiful character! I love how unique she is and how she navigates conflict. I liked most of her love interests, but hope to find more connection with them in the sequel. The ending was very abrupt and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Overall, I loved how the story kept me riveted and look forward to continuing the series.
I absolutely loved this book! It was a little juvenile and not much happened really in the grand scheme of things. But I don’t care. I loved every page.
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to get into a lot of details without spoiling it. But this was a super simple, super cute read for me.
Three stars according to Goodreads for "I liked it."
I have a weird love/hate relationship with this book. I loved the world building, the Academy itself seems to have a lot of potential, and I would really like to see more behind the scenes with that, actually. I loved the drama and mystery and the cliff hanger is working - I definitely want to stick around for Term 2.
I understand that it's a reverse harem, and I like the non-possessiveness of the guys in the harem. It's refreshing that while they're possessive "you're mine," it's never to the detriment of Wren's other relationships.
The hate part is that it felt like it all piled on a little too quickly for me, and was just a little too perfect.
I'm not quite sure, but it annoyed me to have everyone describe Wren as absolutely perfect, flawless. She knew just what to say at just the right times, and it felt too unrealistic to me.
Then again, the entire story is fantasy, so maybe I'm being too judgmental. To have her go from near the bottom of the hierarchy to (SPOILER ALERT) <spoiler> being mated to some of the most powerful people - including faculty AND the headmaster?</spoiler> just seemed piled on, a little forced, and also strangely weird.
Love/hate for sure!
I really enjoyed this book! Wren is an adorable MC and the guys are to swoon for. I also really liked the world building and the academy setting. However, I think you need to really enjoy reverse harem to like this series. I personally do like it, so I loved that there were seven love interests, but I can see how that could be a bit too much for some people. I also think that due to the length of the book both the plot and the relationship development wasn't as detailed and focused on as I would have liked. That being said I do think it's a great series and I can't wait to read the second book!
Lyra Winters writes a story that keeps you wanting more. I'm counting down till Fate Hollow Academy Term 2 is ready.
The story follows Wren who is the last of the artic fox shifters. She was orphaned after humans killed her parents and grew up with wolf shifters who treated her horrible.
Wrens best friend Thorn who is a fae is about to head to Fate Hollow Academy because he got his mark. He is in love with Wren, but they have not matted.
Wren wonders if she will ever mate and if she will ever find her power. The night before Thron leaves something happens that starts the ball rolling that will change Wrens and multiple others futures.
Will Wern stay alone or will she find her mate. Is war on the way with humans and supernaturals??
This book has discovery of self, love, and so much more.
I am on the edge of my seat waiting on the second book. I could not stop reading. Can anyone really be humble, kind, sweet, and innocent? Wren is! It just takes some time for everyone to see it. As the males around her become acquainted with her, they fall for her sweet innocence. She has been treated poorly most of her existence. As she enters the academy, she begins to open up and blossom. Her mates are falling into line with this sweet artic fox shifter.
Fate Hollow Academy: Term 1 is perfect for fans of Zodiac Academy and reverse harem stories. This was a fun, quick and sexy read. Wren is the last Artic Fox shifter alive. After her only friend is accepted into Fate Hollow Academy, she is left with the unbearable weight of having to be alone in her shunned village. Fox shifters normally have multiple mates, but when the son of the Alpha Wolf is discovered to be her mate, they both reject the bonds. Angering the village that took her in, she is banned from ever coming back there. Luckily the same night, she is chosen to go to the Academy. When she arrives she meets several, sexy supernatural's. Vampires, Werewolves and Necromancer's are just a few of the hot men that she meets. Wren must discover what extra power she has and who her destined mates will be. There is also a war rising up from the Humans and attacks happening on and off campus. I really enjoyed Wren's character. Being isolated, she is naïve to the way many things work. But it never came off as annoying. She's a quick study and eager to learn. I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next in the series!
Thank you Netgalley and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A great read with intesting and complex characters a fun and exciting book. The heroine was interesting and here mates were too.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. It sounded intriguing and I really wanted to read it as it sounded like it would be right up my alley. This book is exactly what I needed. Wren is an attic fox shifter, the last of her kind. Her parents were killed at the age of 5 right in front of her. She finds her way to her mothers pack or artic wolf shifters where she grows up. When her mark appears to attend Fate Hollow Academy she finds herself and an opportunity and a path for her life she never thought would happen.
Wren is a sweet and kind FMC that and compared to all the dark romance that I read is a fresh breath of air to read. I enjoyed Lyra’s writing and immediately am going to go purchase a copy of this to support her and preorder the next. I can’t wait to see what she does with this series.
Thank you to the author & NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Fate Hollow Academy is a fast paced and exciting introduction to a new fantasy world, perfect for fans of Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this!
Fate Hollow is a school for supernaturals, and our protagonist is Wren, the last Arctic Fox shifter, who is unexpectedly admitted to the school after spending her life as an outcast of her town. She rapidly goes from never been kissed to having multiple mates of different species, perhaps too rapidly. I definitely found the pacing of this book off - despite my overall interest in the story, I found the relationships over accelerated and Wren’s quick progression from naive exile to seductress took away from the depth of her character. I’d love if this book was longer, or if there as less ground covered in the first book.
I still found this a quick, fun read and I will probably continue with the sequels, but I hope to see an improvement in the pacing and writing!
Wow, I'm a new fan. I love everything about this book. I wish I could start part 2 right now. Love the characters and the story.
I received a free copy for review purposes
I found the author and book off of Tik Tok. I was hooked with one video about the book. I absolutely adore Wren and my favorite guy is Damien😍. The story, plot, character development, & world are so good I can’t wait for book 2. I could not put the book down. Never doubted this book would be amazing.
I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down! It was a really exciting and adventurous introduction to a dark, sexy, and interesting new fantasy world.
It had everything I love in a story: strong characters, handsome men who would kill for their girl, multiple partners (reverse harem), tension, and an interesting new world to learn about and explore.
I didn’t think the writing was particularly strong, which is the only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars. I think since the main character is slated to fall in love with a lot of men (7 I recall?) it felt a bit forced and sudden at times. Some of this could be excused within the world of fast-building bonds but some of the interactions between characters felt really accelerated throughout the book, particularly her first two days at the academy. I think I would have loved this book to be a lot longer and more drawn out.
That being said, I still really enjoyed it. If a bit of sloppy writing here and there would hold you back then I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you can overlook writing for storyline and feels and spice, then I highly recommend this book.
Wren is an attic fox shifter who is banished from her home and quickly finds herself enrolled at Fate Hollow Academy, a school for supernaturals to train up to fight against humans. She finds herself being the centre of attention and gaining the affection of many men on campus, including one of her teachers, her headmaster, and many of her fellow students.
Wren is a generally likeable character, very innocent and kind. The boys are a mix of kind & innocent as well as dark and brooding - truely something for everyone.
I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series and am genuinely sad I have to wait.
Rating: 4.5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Spice: 2/5 🌶🌶 some but pretty minimal. I see it getting spicier in future books.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
