Thank you to the publisher for an early copy of this book. Unfortunately I was unable to finish this book despite trying twice to read it.
Thank you and sorry for the delay in reading and reviewing.
The hype for this didn't live up to expectations. It took 2 attempts to read and for a domestic thriller was just ok. I also didn't like the main character.
Not very impressed with this one!
The protagonist was really really annoying and the whole plot itself was quite shallow.. While it could have been developed into a much more engrossing read, the repetitive behaviour and scenes just made the book an average read.
This is a domestic thriller. I didn’t like any of the characters. The main character frustrated me so much. The ending was ok.
A family drama and thriller, this was an enjoyable, edge-of-my-seat read. I really enjoyed this one and couldn't put it down. I will definitely be reading more books my Kevin Lynch in the future. Truly an enjoyable read.
In "The Perfect Home" by Kevin Lynch, the idyllic setting of June's home becomes the stage for a complex web of secrets, suspicions, and danger. Lynch crafts a story where the seemingly perfect suburban life unravels, leaving June to navigate the unsettling changes in her family and neighborhood.
The novel begins with the promise of a domestic thriller, with June's concerns about the new neighbor, her rebellious daughter, and the mysterious behavior of her son and ex-husband. The author skillfully creates an atmosphere of suspense, making readers question the intentions of those around June and the safety of her once-perfect home.
June is a relatable protagonist, and the author effectively portrays her fears and uncertainties as her life takes unexpected turns. The narrative keeps the reader engaged by gradually unraveling the connections between the different elements introduced at the beginning. The exploration of June's memories, both beautiful and painful, adds depth to her character.
However, as the plot unfolds, some readers may find the pacing uneven, with certain twists feeling forced or lacking in sufficient buildup. The resolution of the mystery may leave some questions unanswered, and the conclusion might feel abrupt for those expecting a more satisfying closure.
While the premise holds promise, the execution of the storyline might not fully deliver on the suspenseful potential. The characters, though well-drawn, sometimes fall into familiar archetypes found in domestic thrillers, and the plot's resolution may lack the complexity and depth needed to make it truly gripping.
In conclusion, "The Perfect Home" is a three-star read that captures the essence of domestic suspense but falls short of delivering a fully satisfying experience. Kevin Lynch sets the stage for a thrilling narrative but faces challenges in maintaining consistent pacing and providing a resolution that lives up to the suspenseful build-up. If you enjoy domestic thrillers with suburban intrigue, this novel might still offer an engaging read, but be prepared for a resolution that may leave you wanting more.
Although a super quick read, I struggled with this one. I found the characters insufferable and the main character couldn’t get out of her own way. I do appreciate how it was all wrapped up in the end.
June Sweeney a social worker lives in a quiet cul-de-sac with her daughter Cathy and son Sam. June is very happy in the home where she raised her two children and loves to potter about in the garden that she created.
A new neighbour moves in, Steve is a bit rough around the edges and works on repairing cars on his driveway with blaring music playing. He has also got his eye on Cathy and wants her to babysit for his two daughters.
Soon June's quiet life is turned upside down. Steve's moving into her neighbourhood has a domino effect on her life as strange events begin to occur, her bin on fire, a snake in her house and someone she knows is murdered!!
As June starts to investigate she realises that she is in terrible danger.
A quick easy read that had a good twist at the end.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
The Perfect Home by Kevin Lynch is a captivating novel that explores the dark side of suburbia. June, the protagonist, has lived in her house for many years, and it has been the perfect home for her family. However, lately, things have changed, and June's life is turned upside down by the mysterious events happening around her.
One of the strengths of the novel is the author's ability to create a vivid setting that draws the reader into June's world. The descriptions of the leafy suburb, the beautiful garden, and the memories scattered throughout the house make the reader feel as if they are right there with June, experiencing everything she is experiencing.
Another strength of the novel is the author's ability to create suspense. From the first chapter, the reader is pulled into the story, wondering what will happen next. The introduction of the new neighbor across the street, the change in June's son's behavior, and the appearance of her cheating ex-husband, all create a sense of unease that builds throughout the story.
As the plot thickens, the reader is kept on the edge of their seat as June begins to connect the dots between the mysterious events happening around her. The murder of someone she knows becomes a turning point, and June realizes that she herself is in danger.
Overall, The Perfect Home is a well-written novel that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. The author does an excellent job of creating a suspenseful atmosphere and building tension throughout the story. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is engaging and intriguing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller or mystery novel.
thank you NETGALLEY for the E-ARC, greatly appreciate it.
Fantastic psychological thriller and great writing. Definitely a great read and will be reading again very soon for bookclub.
I liked the author’s writing so I’d happily try another of his books, but this one, unfortunately didn’t work for me. The plot was unconvincing, I predicted where this was going by 30%. I didn’t like any of the characters so I never had an interest in what they were doing. Cathy & Sam especially being so disrespectful to their mother at that age just wasn’t it either.
Thank you, NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this eARC!
Empty nester June deals with a new neighbor who seems to be very suspicious to her. She doesn't welcome him to the neighborhood Especially since one of their neighbors are murdered since he moved in. Wouldn't you think it points to him too? She is scared that she might even be next to die. I enjoyed this read. Wasn't as fast paced and engaging as I had hoped for. Took me awhile to finish it.
This book was good. Had the characters that you were unable to decide if they are good or bad, had suspense to it though I was not extremely shocked by the twists that it took. The end felt a bit rushed to me but overall it was good, not the best but I enjoyed myself reading it
The Perfect Home is a thriller filled with nonstop action.
The Perfect Home had me guessing and second guessing at every possible turn. The novel is truly a page turner and I had a hard time putting it down until I was finished. I would highly recommend to thriller and mystery lovers.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
A good psychological thriller that sends chills down your spine. The pace of this book keeps the reader engaged, and the plot is promising. Readers of this genre will not be disappointed.
Psychological thriller , parts of which I really enjoyed but I must admit to skipping pages and not really warming to the characters . In my opinion it was predictable and not as gripping as I like .
4 stars! I love a good neighborhood thriller. The Perfect Home was an entertaining read and I recommend it to fans of domestic/psych thrillers.
