I wouldn’t recommend drinking too much coffee before reading this novel because from page one, it’s anxiety-inducing and fraught with tension. The pacing is relentless—in a good way.

Five years ago, Olivia Sutherland was put in prison for a crime she didn’t commit. Now that she’s out, she wants to repair her relationship with her now-12-year-old daughter and find out who framed her. She has her suspicions that it’s her ex-husband, so she calls on her old friends and her newer friends she found while incarcerated to get to the truth and put her life together again.

This is a lot of fun and a super-fast read. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this novel, which RELEASES JUNE 29, 2022.

4.5/5

Oliva was sent to prison for a crime her husband framed her for. Finally she's getting out, having missed 5 years of not just her own life, but her daughter's. Will she be satisfied with trudging through life being treated like an ex-con and trying to rebuild a relationship with her sullen teenage child? Or will she risk everything to prove her innocence... and get revenge on the ones who ruined her life?

I really enjoyed Her Last Holiday by this author, so despite having a spate of disappointing "thrillers" lately, I requested this as soon as I recognised the author's name, hoping to finally be reminded of what can be great about this genre.

Happily, C L Taylor really came through for me here and did just that. This is a story that moves at a solid and engaging pace with lots of agendas, twists and turns to keep you on your toes. It has multiple perspectives and lots of morally grey characters. The writing is straightforward and easy reading, with short snappy chapters.

This is a stellar example of what I love about thrillers. It doesn't try to be flowery. The characters, while well defined, exist to drive the plot rather than the other way around, and every sentence is there to move plot forward. This is exactly the edge of the seat escapism I pick up a thriller for.

I'm not sure I totally loved the very very end, but having said that, it definitely did fit the book much better than a smaltzy HEA would have.

If you enjoy an easy, cracking suspense read with a steaming side of revenge, you can't go far wrong with this one. I'll be looking up this author's back catalogue!

I mostly enjoyed this one, but I don't think it's as good as others on this authors list.
Overall well written, and some good twists.

Olivia has served time for plotting to kill her husband Dom, claim the insurance money and then run away with her lover, Jack. Despite her conviction, Liv has always maintained her innocence, claiming to have been set up by Dom. She has spent her time in prison plotting and planning her revenge, with Smithy, her cell mate, more than willing to help Liv accomplish Dom’s downfall.

From the off this was a cracker of a read, totally absorbing. Full of tension, suspense and intrigue, the revelations kept coming. Along with a few red herrings which made the story a joy to read.

A fantastic candidate for a tv series, it is so good.

Would highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley.

It took a while for this to get going. About halfway in I was concerned that I still wasn't invested but boy did it ramp up towards the end. It was super character driven for a mystery which I enjoyed. For the second half, I was on the edge of my seat desperate to know how things would pan out - and what a twist it does serve up. It's layered and full of building tension which is exactly what you want. A thriller I'd happily recommend.

Another great read from CL Taylor that I raced through. Olivia’s husband framed her and she is out of prison after five years. Keen to clear her name which is a tough call is the theme of the book. There are plenty of twists and turns. It is a great thriller. Thanks to NetGalley for ARC.

Thank you so much for the chance to review this book which I thoroughly enjoyed. I found the character of Olivia very sympathetic and was rooting for her from the start. It’s quite rare for a thriller to both maintain the pace and atmosphere that keeps the reader unable to put the book down and still create characters that feel real and that evoke a strong emotional response.
CL Taylor has done it again and I really recommend this book to lovers of this genre.

My goodness don’t you just love a book where you are suspecting every single character well if like me you do then this is certainly the book for you!
So the read has an excellent plot line that had me fooled for quite some time, the pace of the story for me started off slow but as I got into it it raced along and never let up till the ending and it was a very satisfying ending that I liked.
Told from different points of view and with short chapters I was surprised just how quickly I got through the book always a good sign for me as to how much I was enjoying it.
The characters were well …likeable and downright nasty which made it all the better I have a tendency to enjoy a book more if it has nasty characters, not quite sure what that says about me!
A really good thriller that kept me on my toes what more could you ask for.
My thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I couldn’t think of anything worse than being sent to prison for a crime I didn’t commit but that is exactly what happens to Olivia. To be taken away from your friends and family and miss out on so much of your child’s life, it is just unbearable to think about.

There is lots going on throughout the story and it gets more twisted. The anticipation of why Olivia’s husband had done what he has and as there are a few characters in the story, I found it hard to trust anyone and couldn’t help suspect if they had ulterior motives.

Its clear to see that Olivia’s time in prison has hardened her somewhat and in her desperation to get her daughter and her life back, she takes risks that could have dire consequences. As much as I was keen for this woman to get justice, I also didn’t want things to get any worse so my heart ended up being in my mouth a few times when she puts her newly found freedom at risk.

The Guilty Couple for me had a darker edge than the author’s previous novels. I could easily see this being made into a series for television as it was so engrossing. The pacing of the story made the tension taut and there are some great twists that heightened my enjoyment further. Yet another thrilling page turner of a read by the author.

Told in two timelines, this is a thriller written about Olivia Sutherland, a woman on trial and subsequently convicted of attempted murder of her husband, Dominic.

It’s 2019 and Olivia is getting out of jail. She has two goals: clearing her name and reestablishing a relationship with her daughter, Grace. Olivia knows she was framed, but she doesn’t know the half of who or why.

This was a well-written thriller and was interesting enough to keep me invested in the plot.

2019 Oliva Sutherland leaves prison after five years after wrongly convicted of plotting to kill her husband. All she wants to do now is clear her name and reconnect with her daughter who was seven went she went down and now a 12-year-old girl. She hasn.t seen her daughter for years as her grandparents have kept her away.
When she was convicted her lover disappeared to be never seen again. She also wants to take down her ex-husband and find the evidence that he framed her. So, they can put him away. That is not going to be an easy task as there is a restraining order against and she is not allowed near her old family home.
Have far will she go to clear her name? So far it may cost her life?
Cally Taylor has done it again with The Guilty couple. I reckon this is her best book yet. This is an intense twisty, thriller, lots of action that I couldn’t put down. This time she has written a slightly different writing style but I liked it even more. 5 stars from me

While reading The Guilty Couple I sensed the similarity with the movie Double Jeopardy, but nevertheless, this is a thrilling book, worth reading if you like stories about revenge, trust, jealousy, and selfishness.

Olivia Sutherland is convicted of plotting to murder her husband after being framed by him. She lost her freedom, career, reputation, and the most precious thing in her life, her child. After spending five years in jail, Liv is determined to repair her relationship with her daughter, as well as clear her name.
It is clear that no one's going to save her and that she needs to save herself. Every decision she has made previously has been full of emotions and now she has to think logically.
And yet, her ex-husband Dominic has a plan and a dangerous one.
Can she bring down her ex without jeopardizing her whole life?

Good domestic thriller about manipulation, lies, and, corruption.

Please make this into a Netflix series.

5 years ago, Olivia Sutherland was framed for plotting to kill her husband. Now she is out of prison, Olivia is determined to take revenge. The more she looks into her husband, Dominic and the joint friend, Dani, the bigger the web of deception.
I found I couldn’t put this book down. As the story develops, it’s became harder to put down. Really enjoyed the plot, with great twists. Another masterpiece by CL Taylor.

Thank you to Avon Books UK, NetGalley, and C.L. Taylor for this ARC.

If you love fast-paced domestic thrillers then this books is for you! There's a lot of twists and turns and it just keeps you guessing. There were a lot of surprises along the way, I just hoped for a bit more character development but the premise was interesting enough to keep you going.

In 2014, Olivia Sutherland is on trial for plotting to murder her husband. The prosecution paint her as a wicked woman, cunning in her planning to dispose of Dominic. He testifies that she’s every bit as evil as is put forward but who is the guilty party in this? Five years later, she is out of prison and desperate to get her life back on track – and first and foremost, that’s building a relationship with her teenage daughter Grace. But Olivia has – understandably perhaps – revenge on her mind. She’s determined to make Dominic pay for what he did and she’s willing to go a lot further than he ever did. You might go as far to say that he’s no idea what his estranged wife is capable of… This is a pacy read that speeds up the more you’re involved in the detailed plot. I’m a big fan of CL Taylor’s world and always look forward to another novel being published.

Another fantastic thriller from C.L Taylor!

Although probably not my favourite from her, it is nonetheless a very strong, enjoyable thriller read.

The plot was this book was fun. I think the concept was unique and interesting.

The writing was as good as always. Very engaging and hard to put down.

Some of the elements of the story did seem a little far fetched, however, I enjoy that in my thrillers. It makes them more interesting to read.

Some of the characters were slightly annoying but I come to expect that from the thrillers I read these days. However, it did not put me off this book.

There isn't much to say apart from this being a fun and enjoyable thriller. I'm not sure how memorable it will be in a few months time but I still highly recommend it to all thriller lovers.
