The first half of this book is essentially a summary of determinism with a few scientific studies thrown in for support. There are actually a lot of aspects of these ideas that I agree with, but I think it might be a bit better presented as a theory / perception rather than with so much certainty. I often think of Albert Einstein when thinking of determinism because of his famous quote “God does not play dice with the universe”. The book also quotes Einstein, saying “everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end…”. Einstein was criticizing quantum mechanics, he could not get on board with the fact that some things could only be described by probabilities and not certainties. But Einstein ended up being wrong, countless experiments in physics have shown this. The world exists as probabilities, even though we don’t see them in our macroscopic realities. For me, this is a crucial blow to determinism that can’t be overcome.

I had some trouble following the second part of the book. But in any case, it’s a quick read that those curious about determinism might be interested in. Thank you to Robert Hamady, Planigale Press, and NetGalley for free access to this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
