I enjoyed the plot of this book, but the execution lacked for me. I did a lot of skimming to get thru it. There was excessive detail that almost distracted from the plot moving along. I think it had potential to be better if it was more fast paced.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast moving, action filled, suspenseful, romantic mystery.
Dillion inherited a ranch from her Aunt Dolly. She's been asked to sell it many times by her neighbor, Hank, and turned him down each time.
Hank and his partner, Issac are frustrated that Dillion won't sell. They want that property. They will do almost anything to get it, including stealing her prize Stallion.
Dillion while looking for her stallion, instead finds a man, a stranger passed out on her property. As she wakens him with her shot gun, someone takes a shot at her.
Cal is awoken by this beautiful women holding a shot gun. Where he is and how he got there, he has no idea. But he does know that someone just took a shot at her and barely missed. As he tackle her to the ground, he feels an instant connection to her. This is the woman who he is meant to be with, meant to protect.
The romance develops from here as well as why people are shooting at her to get her land.
I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.

Cal awakens drunk in the dirt with a pretty lady in a cowboy hat pointing a rifle at him. He has no idea how he got there or why, but after he saves Dillon when they're fired upon, he's grateful.

This is a romantic suspense story as a series of accidents have threatened Dillon and her ranch. Cal halos to keep her safe while working with her to unravel the mystery. There's plenty of action, drama, and a bit of romance to make this a fun read.

I figured out part of the mystery early on, but still enjoyed reading the story.

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

When Cal wakes up with a hangover and facing a barrel gun and the most beautiful woman he had ever met he knows he is trouble. But the danger, lies and secrets surround Dillon’s ranch run deeper than they thought possible and they will to face it together in order to survive and fight for them. Great romantic and suspense reading.

Dillion inherited a ranch from her aunt. Her neighbor Hank wants to buy it, but Dillion won’t sell. Soon Dillion’s prized horse is stolen, and other strange things start happening. At the same time former rodeo star Cal shows up on her property. The mystery unfolds while Cal and Dillion fall in love (really lust) with each other. I was surprised by some of the mystery, but the romance wasn’t there.

I loved the premise of this book but really struggled with the storytelling and dialogue. It was often confusing to understand the characters' motivations as they changed so often without warning or prompting from the story/others. I could not keep track of "which side" Cal was on because many scenes or explanations felt omitted as a way to make it mysterious, but really just made it confusing. The chemistry between the characters felt underdeveloped and I would have liked more understanding of what drew Cal and Dillon to each other.

I think this book had good promise, but quite a bit got muddled in the multiple points of view, the ever-changing "culprit" as a way to keep it mysterious, and the heavy dialogue dumps.

I've come to truly enjoy Donna Grant's contemporary cowboy romantic suspense novels and this was another very good, very suspenseful read with quite the surprise ending and it gets 4.5 stars from this reader.

When Cal, our hero, 30+ year-old bull rider who failed to qualify for the last rodeo, is awakened by the sound of a rifle being cocked, he has a bad hangover and no idea where he is or how he got there. Dillon, our heroine, is the one holding the rifle and she wants him off her ranch property immediately if not sooner, but more importantly, she wants to know the whereabouts of her recent purchase, a championship, champagne-colored stallion she paid a fortune to buy--he's missing and she thinks Cal is behind it, but Cal knows nothing about her horse, how he got there or even where he is, because his last memory of the night before is getting blind-drunk at a seedy bar in town.

The bottom line for Dillon is this: she wants her horse back, she's convinced that the rancher next door, who has made more than a few offers to buy the ranch she inherited and plans to run, all of is behind this, since she's inherited the ranch and has no intention of selling it at any price. There have been more than a few odd accidents/occurrences recently and several of her ranch hands have had their families threatened and quit instead, but when her most trusted ranch hand, Emmett, vouches for Cal, she hires him as a ranch hand, and that's just the beginning of what's going on in and around her ranch and the mystery of why her neighbor would offer her way more than her small ranch is worth. While she and Cal are out tracking her missing horse, Cal saves her life, but she still doesn't fully believe his story, or lack thereof, and although attracted to him, still doesn't fully trust him.

There are plenty of players in this whodunit of a novel, and enough complications and scary incidents to keep you guessing. While I would have preferred a little more romance and sizzle, That Cowboy of Mine was a well-written, well-plotted, keep-you-guessing novel of romantic suspense, and I'm happy to recommend it.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated are my own.

For me, I felt that the beginning was kind of slow and I wasn't sure how I would feel about the rest of the novel but I'm glad to say that I didn't allow that to stop me from reading. After the first few pages, the story picked up and got rather interesting. You have Dillon, a young woman rancher, and Cal, a man who ends up on her porch drunk with no recollection of the night before. Needless to say, Cal ends up helping her around the ranch and in protecting her when someone is out for her and coveting her ranch Bar 4. At first, I wasn't sure how these two would work because there didn't seem a whole lot of chemistry going on but it's one of those where if you wait patiently enough, you'll get some good results. I did wish there was more time to explore the relationship between the two but it was still sweet enough. The basis of the whole novel though was focused around the mystery of Dillon's missing champion horse as well as figuring out who it is that wants her head, which I found myself anticipating how everything will play out. The detective/mystery aspects of it was definitely one of the main aspects that kept me reading even if we didn't get as much romance. Cal and Dillon was drawn to each other from the beginning and it was a slow progression in their relationship but I felt it was also over a short span of time. Maybe too short. One thing I did like in particular was that although Dillon has some vulnerable moments, she is in no way a damsel in distress. She can clearly fend for herself but the author has written her in ways that shows vulnerability without weakness and self-pity. This is my first novel from Donna Grant and I think there will be more to be read in the future.

ARC received for review

Cal just shows up on Dillon's ranch, and he can't remember how he got there. Dillon thinks he is involved with the disappearance for her horse. Lots of searching both for the horse and each other's feelings along the way. She kicks him off the ranch, but he still helps try to find the horse. Sure didn't see that person as the bad guy.

This book was very good. There was romance, alot of suspense, betrayal and action. Cal is found passed out on Dillon's ranch and her prize stallion is missing. She thinks it is him that is responsible, but he convinces her he is not. He works along side her protecting her until she suspects him again even though they have fallen in love. He tries to convince her he is innocent but she kicks him off the ranch anyway. I loved the characters and was shocked at some of the betrayals. A very good story from Donna Grant.

I do love a good cowboy romance. Donna Grant writes a really good one. Cal is the perfect example of a cowboy. He's rough around the edges and has the integrity to do the right thing. Dillon is an extremely strong woman who has no idea of all the secrets surrounding her. The two have a connection from the start. The pace of the book was fast, and it was an easy read. I read it in a day. I enjoyed it from start to finish and it had a very satisfying end. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a great mystery with romance thrown into the mix. It was predictable but that was part of what made it enjoyable for me. I found Dillon & Cal to be an intriguing pair with a lot of sparks between them from the first "meeting." I recommend reading this book if you are into mystery & romance combined,
Thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for advanced copy in exchange for my honest review

Cal Bennett wakes up in a field on the Bar 4 ranch with a shotgun pointed at him and has no recollection of how he ended up someplace he didn’t even know about.
Dillon Young is proud that she inherited her aunt’s ranch, except that someone is trying to run her off. First strange things kept happening, then her prized stallion got stolen and now someone is shooting at her. Luckily Cal realized what has happening on time and managed to save her.
Dillion hires Cal to help around her ranch, and take his help to keep her safe.
That Cowboy of mine is a quick and easy read. There was no suspense but yes a couple of twists were really good. I enjoyed the relation development between Cal and Dillion and their chemistry. Overall a good action read with a touch of romance.

This book.......this book is why I love author Donna Grant. Her books always grab the reader & pull them in fast & keep them on the edge of their seats until the end. The characters in her books are strong, intelligent, heroic & very sexy. There is also an undeniable chemistry between her heroines & heroes, as we see with Cal & Dillon. To say that Cal was in the wrong place at the wrong time could be true but you could also call it fate, that he was meant to be there to save Dillon’s life & eventually change his life’s path. Pure evil & greed battled against Dillon in her attempt to protect her ranch & her life, as she fought to find a stolen stallion & try to understand why her ranch was so important that people were trying to kill her. Cal, caught between loving the good & knowing the evil, battled Dillon’s fears & her misgivings about him as he fought to keep her alive. I was truly surprised at the extent of the evil surrounding Dillon & saddened that it had taken her beloved aunt, but also overwhelmed at how strongly she stood up for herself. Bravo to author Donna Grant for creating such a strong, wonderful heroine, as well as the remarkable heroism & complete love from the hero. Definitely recommend this book. Thank you to St. Martens Press, author Donna Grant & Net Galley for letting me read this book for an honest review.

Cal Bennett wakes to a shotgun being cocked. Dillion Young has been having problems on her ranch. Hank Stephens is trying to purchase the property. Cal is found on her land with no memory of the last night. She is taking him back to her ranch when she stops to look at something; someone fires 2 shots and Cal knocks her down. Dillion is not sure who she can trust anymore. Cal and Dillion are drawn to each other but when more things happen, she makes him leave the ranch. The new stallion she purchased is missing and she has called in the rangers who specialize in livestock theft. The is a great suspense romance with a good cowboy.

Well, this story really give us a lot to unpack.

Dillon and Cal's story was very heavy on the suspense, and that didn't leave us much room for a romance (and maaaaan, with their chemistry they needed much more to happen, but I digress). I like the ride we were taken on, and there were a few twists and turns and wtf moments.

It has been a while since I have read a Donna Grant story, and this one makes me want to go and read more again.

I enjoyed reading, That Cowboy of Mine. We know who the big players are in the crime that happens in the beginning. I liked being in the know. However I groaned a couple times because we know but Dillon doesn't.

Bad day/week/month/year for Cal Bennett. And they haven’t been great for Dillon Young either. What I really enjoyed about this story is how deep-down good Cal is, even when no one believes it. It has more twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. And then I wanted to just smack some folks… Really good story, intrigue, mayhem, budding relationship…and a very protective momma. I really liked this book.
