That Cowboy of Mine by Donna Grant
Dillon Young -someone is trying to run her off from her aunt’s ranch she inherited. She finds Cal Bennett passed out drunk on her property and her prized stallion is missing. The story is fast paced full of angst, suspicion, treachery, murder, betrayal, also laughter, tears, love and steam to get us to a very HEA. If you like a strong H and h you will enjoy this book - I had to force myself to put it down to get a little sleep.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Happily Ever After Tear-jerker Informative Unpredictable Romantic Action-packed Page-turner Easy-to-read Steamy Scary Tragic Witty Entertaining
OK - the predicable female inherits ranch, with enigmatic hot cowboy showing up out of nowhere, with the typical male conspiracy power mongers playing everyone and buying everyone off - but hey - it's all fun, it's entertaining and a great vacation read!
I’ve had the pleasure to read a few of Donna Grant’s cowboy books, and have loved them all, but I had a difficult time getting into these characters in this book. Dillion and Cal are relatable, but I didn’t care for the the way they met. I found it hard to believe that Cal got so drunk he couldn’t even remember the events and agreements leading up to be found on Dillion’s property, just didn’t jive for me, along with the things happening around the ranch. The thing that saved it for me was the last half of the story. Lots of mystery along with some pretty good twists and turns, but that’s the only reason I upped the stars. Not my favorite, but certainly not the worst.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
I always love to read a Donna Grant book- throw a cowboy in... perfection!
Dillon is running her ranch as best as she can despite all the turmoil she's recently encountered. Throw in a sexy cowboy passed out in her field and she's drawn to him but suspicious at the same time.
That Cowboy of Mine was a suspenseful and intriguing read. Money makes people do crazy and evil things and for Dillon to go through her troubles and betrayal to fight for her land, a happy ending which includes Cal was perfect
good book. good suspense and enough drama. I liked the characters and the storyline. Didn't feel much like a romance for most of it.
I am drawn to a book that is a romance and it has a handsome cowboy on the cover!
Dillion inherited a ranch from her aunt. She has had some odd and dangerous things happening to her and then she finds a passed-out cowboy on her ranch, and she just can not figure out is he is part of what’s happening or not.
She decides that she needs the help and hires the cowboy, Cal to work for her on the ranch to figure out if he was part of the problems she has been having.
Dillion and Cal have enough spark , crackle and sizzle going on that it will keep anyone wanting romance reading.
The twists and turns in this book are so well written.
Thank you NetGalley, Donna Grant and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of That Cowboy of Mine. This is my personal review.
Okay beginning of the book took me sometime to actually get into. However once I hit about halfway I was fully invested and finished it in a morning! Love a cowboy romance.
Can you ever really go wrong with a cowboy romance? This latest book by Donna Grant features Cal, a down on his luck cowboy and Dillon who just inherited her aunt's ranch, Dillon has been having trouble with the ranch lately, so when she finds Cal passed out on her ranch the same morning her prize stallion disappears, she is definitely suspicious. This was an enjoyable romance with a bit of suspense, overall a fun read.
The author delivers a story that is filled with suspense, bad guys, a hunky good one, a strong female character and of course, romance. What more can you want?
Dillon Young inherited her aunt’s ranch. A ranch she loves but lately “accidents” are happening around her.
The latest is the disappearance of her prized stallion. She is sure her neighbor, a wealthy rancher who has been trying to buy her land, is the one responsible. Add to that, the discovery of Cal Bennett. A man she finds in her land, who was apparently out cold after a drunken night.
Cal is smitten by Dillon but he has to confess, he has no clue how he got to her land.
As he offers his help in the ranch and finding the stallion, and the danger intensifies as bullets fly, so do feelings develop. But who can Dillon trust? Cal too is wondering if he can trust her neighbor Hank, who was once a family friend .
The story was engaging and the characters interesting and well developed. Reminding this reader that it’s always a treat to read one of this author’s books.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and St. Martin’s.
The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Dillon is in trouble, they are after her ranch. She loves it and doesn’t want to give it up no matter the cost. If she only knew who she could trust! The book is full of mystery, suspense with some romance mixed in.
Dillon Young inherited her aunt’s ranch a year ago and while she love every inch of it, life has been a constant struggle. Someone, most likely her greedy neighbor, Hank Stephens has been pulling all kinds of dirty, and now near deadly, tricks to get Dillion to sell up and move out. Dillion’s determination to hold on pushes her enemies to up their game. When she finds former rodeo champion bull rider, Cal Bennett, passed out on her land, Dillion figures he is part of assault. Cal puts his life at risk to protects Dillon so she rethinks the first assumption; however, can she really trust him?
Cal Bennett make some unwise choices the night before drinking himself in to oblivion so he has no memory of how he wound up hungover on the ground with a shotgun pointed at him. The pretty woman holding the other end is not amused to find him on her land especially since her prize horse has gone missing. After Cal proves his worth protecting Dillon, she decides to let him work the ranch and help find her prize stallion. Cal presents them as a couple to the suspect neighbor and the locals. Cal has some personal issues to deal while finding that Dillon is becoming more to him than just someone to protect.
There is plenty of corruption as well as evil deeds to go around making it difficult for Dillon not only to keep her ranch, but her life as well. Secrets and lies are the order of the day and not all the bad guys wear black hats. As is usual with Ms. Grant’s storytelling, the bad guys’ POVS get a fair amount of time on the stage. Although the author does write a Texas cowboy series, this book is a standalone. Despite the title, less romance and more intrigue set the tone for this book.
In Donna Grant's book, That Cowboy of Mine, there's something strange going on at the Bar 4 Ranch, crazy accidents and such. Then things really go wrong for ranch owner, Dillon Young. Her newly purchased prize stallion is stolen and things go downhill from there. There is an upside though. Cal Bennett is now in Dillon's life. But can she trust him?
This is a real page-turner. There's lots of action and suspense. I liked the characters a lot - well not the villains. I really liked the ending. I enjoy author Donna Grant's writing style and look forward to her next book.
What an exciting read. I didn’t want to stop reading, especially as Dillion faced the many enemies she had. I really liked all the characters, including Dillion, Cal and even Chet, the ranger. I also felt the pacing of the story was good and kept me interested in the story. The love story was the weakest part given that I didn’t feel like the breadth of their affection was fully explained with everything that happened (pretty much an insta-love story given the book took place within the span of a few weeks). That said, this was overall a minor issue because the twists and turns, while guessable, still made me want to finish the story without stopping. And i liked the main couple anyway so i was rooting for their HEA. A really well done cowboy romance!
Can I say that Cal sounds so hot?! Man, I wish I was Dillion! So, let's get to the review, Dillon finds Cal passed out drunk on her property and thinks that it was a set up but is not really sure about it. Since she is not sure and really needs the help, she hires him as hand for her ranch on the insistence of her ranch manager whom she trusts and respects. Dillon is really attracted to Cal and vice versa, we have betrayal, bow-chica wow wow, and then the truth comes out..
That Cowboy of Mine is a very readable contemporary romantic suspense novel that just didn't do it for me. It follows Dillon Young, a young woman who recently inherited a small Texas ranch from an aunt. Strange things are afoot at the ranch, and for Dillon, they get stranger when she finds bronc rider Cal Bennett passed out drunk on her property. Cal has no idea how he ended up there and is both shocked and a little turned on when he wakes up to find the pretty woman pointing a shotgun at him.
The short story is that her rich neighbor rancher has been trying to buy her property, but she's refused each time. Shortly after, she found fence wire and brake lines cut, and her prized stallion was stolen. Things turn a sharp corner, however, when she's nearly gunned down right after finding Cal. Cal saves her life, so she starts to think better of the guy.
As things get worse, Dillon doesn't know who she can trust, including Cal. Even after they share sexy times, she's not quite sure who to believe. For me, I didn't understand why she ended up being quick to trust Cal, and then, after finally trusting him and sharing instalove, how she was so quick to decide that he was a bad guy after all.
The author throws in several red herrings, and if you aren't paying attention or have never read the cowboy-saves-ranch-from-greedy-neighbor trope, you might be fooled. I wasn't. The bottom line is that the good guys are 100 percent good and the bad guys 100 percent bad, and by the end, I just wanted to smack both Dillon and Cal upside their heads.
Normally, I wouldn't mention editorial issues in an ARC review, but there's a glaring one that I feel the need to pass on (hopefully, it will be corrected). Dusty is the ranch hand. Freddy is a gun for hire. Around chapter 16, Dusty become Freddy for several critical chapters, only to become Dusty again. It was enough that I had to go back and reread several passages to figure out what was happening. (Yay, e-reader with search function!)
Many readers will enjoy this novel. I'm just not one of them.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!
Donna Grant writes a very suspenseful cowboy romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat at all times. This story is full of suspense, romance, and so much action. From the moment the story began I was caught up in the story line. I did not want this book to end. There were twists and turns I didn't even see coming. Incredible read from start to finish. Thanks NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Dillon owns a ranch that was left to her by her aunt. She used to live in the city but prefers ranch life. Someone is trying to kill her and she believes it’s her neighbor, Hank. Hank wants her land and will stop at nothing to get it. When one of her horses goes missing, she starts searching and finds a man passed out on her land, asleep. Cal was in town for the rodeo and got rip roaring drunk when it didn’t go his way. He wakes up to a shotgun in his face and the most beautiful woman he has seen. Dillon believes he’s working with Hank but Cal sets out to prove her wrong. When someone takes a shot at her, Cal saves her and she agrees to let him be her bodyguard and ranch hand. Can Dillon protect her ranch and her heart?
Action. Suspense. A woman who’s been hurt by men before. A man who just wants to protect the woman he has fallen for.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
A complimentary copy of this book was provided by NetGalley for my honest review and opinion. This is one hot mystery romance packed in one. This book made me a super fan of Donna Grant.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Cal and Dillons story is a maze of deception, intrigue, and deep love.
Cal is found on Dillons land and passed out drunk. He wakes up to Dillon pointing a gun to his head. As soon as he starts explaining he doesn’t remember anything shots are fired at Dillon.
Cal starts helping Dillon solve who was shooting at her but many more devastating accidents continue to happen.
More is going on than meets the eye and Cal may not be as innocent as he seems. Can Dillon trust him?
Loved the suspense and mystery in this book. Great read and five stars.
Awesome romantic suspense! Dillon had major problems on the ranch. Cal ends up being another problem for her to solve. When they team up to figure out what’s going on, the sparks fly. A few twists and turns that made me not want to put it down.
