Loved it!!! Seriously, this was a page turner and I loved every minute of reading it. The characters were great-strong male and female leads and truly nasty villains. The ranch setting was just as you would expect from a cowboy romance. The suspense certainly kept me turning the pages and not wanting to put the book down.
I believe this is the second or third book by this author which I have read and loved-obviously I need to read more. If you are on the fence about picking up this book, I do not think you will be disappointed at all by reading this novel-you should absolutely love it.
I liked the story where someone wants her ranch and is willing to kill for it. The characters were interesting. My favorite was Cal, he’s what I think of as everything I’d want in a cowboy. Cal was a great guy trying to protect and help Dillon even when she didn’t completely trust him. I enjoyed the book and recommended reading it.
Another cowboy romance with a lot more suspense and action thrown in. Good character development and a couple of unexpected reveals helped make this an enjoyable read.
Thanks to NetGalley and St Martins for the arc.
What a great story that keeps you guessing. I found myself cheering for Cal the whole way through - getting quite upset with Dillion a couple of times! But her hesitancy is totally understandable...so I cut her some slack!!
Donna Grant is a true storyteller and "That Cowboy of Mine" is a great addition to her repertoire!
I’ve come to love Donna Grant as an author and love her stories. “That Cowboy of Mine” did not disappoint. This is romantic suspense novel that is engaging, suspenseful, has its share of action and a bit of romance to boot. Dillon has inherited her aunt’s ranch and is determined to keep it running despite the many obstacles that are against her. Her biggest obstacle…someone wants to kill her for her land. Then there is Cal, a rodeo man who shows up on her ranch and doesn’t know how he got there. Between the two, they couple into a formidable team to uncover who is out to kill her and obtain what they want at any cost.
Oh my goodness, this was such a good read and I loved the building romance between Cal and Dillon. You can feel their attraction from day one and it just kept progressing throughout the pages. I love a budding romance with its share of steamy and it was nicely done by the author. This book was just a page turner for me until the very end which was written so very well. Recommend the read.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was a 4-star read for me. The h and H were both strong and likable and I didn't notice any editing issues. Dillon, the heroine, runs a ranch that she inherited from her beloved Aunt Dolly. Cal, an injured bull rider, came to her rescue under curious circumstances on that ranch. From their first meeting, there was a slow build of feelings and heat. Underlying all that is a mystery on why someone is taking shots, literally, at Dillon while finding other ways to make her ranch fail.
There's no mystery to who's ultimately pulling the strings, but there is a surprise or two that I didn't see coming. The reason that this story loses points is because Dillon had a tstl moment where she put herself in danger needlessly. In a matter of minutes she went from fearing from her life to leaving her ranch alone to assert her independence. Also, she turned on someone she loved when she knew, full well, that he only tried to protect her. Both of these actions were out of character and lowered my opinion of her a notch or two. I totally realize that some actions happen to keep a book moving, but those were just out of character and made zero sense.
There's one somewhat steamy scene in the book; it's well-written and not over the top. That Cowboy of Mine is a good book that bordered on being even better than that. I enjoyed watching Dillon and Cal fall in love and I enjoyed the plot twist near the end.
Greed is a dangerous driver of events. Events that put people and property in harm’s way. Tough being the cross hairs. And that is where Dillon found herself. After inheriting her aunt Dolly’s ranch Dillon knew she had found the place that touched her deeply. She was also smart enough to know that the ranch needed to move in a direction where it could sustain itself. So Dillon decided on horse breeding and invested in a rare colored stallion.
Her neighbor Hank was outspoken in his desire to acquire Dillon’s ranch. His ranch was vast and yet this smaller ranch in the midst of his land was somehow important.
Events, some nuisance others dangerous were occurring at an alarming pace and now Dillon’s life is threatened. A rodeo bull rider named Cal suddenly appears sleeping off a drunk on her ranch. Coincidence? Dillon can’t shake off the feeling that it had to be more than that.
When Dillons new stallion Legacy is missing, she presumes correctly that he has been stolen. Rightly so she notifies the authorities. But here is when the weight of suspicions gets challenging. Cal has a lifelong relationship with Hank. Cal has no idea how he wound up on Dillon’s ranch. Dillon can’t get over her lack of trust with Hank and now Cal. Scary to be on the receiving end of misfortune. All Dillon wants is to stay on her ranch, but if she can’t recoup her loss from losing her horse the future of the ranch is questionable at best.
Whom do you trust? Authorities aren’t always clean and trustworthy. Random strangers certainly are not. But sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.
From the get-go you know who the bad guys are in THAT COWBOY OF MINE, at least the obvious ones. Donna Grant leads us on an investigation. All this makes for a very enjoyable story and one that keeps you waiting for the real questions to be addressed. I love a good old western crime. Hard to tell the good guys from the bad and in THAT COWBOY OF MINE the list keeps growing. Donna Grant had to enjoy writing THAT COWBOY OF MINE. It is evident in the character development and dialog. All and all this is a fine cowboy adventure.
That Cowboy of Mine by D. Grant is Cal and Dillon's story. A bit predictable, but a great read. Dillon owns a ranch and while being a hard worker, somone wants her gone.
Cal is a former bullrider finds himself on Dillon's ground. He gets hired and things-- you get it.
This is a fast paced, drama laden, twisty, action packed cowboy story, well written, suspenseful.
4,5 stars.
Another winner! I loved this book! Cal is a failing rodeo cowboy who finds himself blackout drunk, while Dillon is a ranch owner struggling to keep her property. When they encounter each other, sparks fly. As the danger increases, so does the passion between them, even if Dillon isn't sure she can trust Cal.
This author is a master at her craft and creates sexy cowboys and drama guaranteed to keep you awake at night. Fans of the genre will love this book and want to put it at the top of their TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
I requested to read and review this book for free from St. Martin Publishing Company. Author Donna Grant has written a fantastic story. This story has drama, suspense, romance and some mystery. The fire works in this book are amazing. Can someone you just meet be trusted? Life is unpredictable at times. Can money buy everything? Is an instant attraction real or just lust? Who can you really trust. Characters Cal and Dillion meet under unusual circumstances but they need to remember their own strengths. This book will keep you guessing until the very end. This book can be read anywhere by a mature reader.
Talk about a meet-cute.
So Cal is a double-agent?
Isaac is going to get Hank dead.
Bull riding is both fun and scary to watch.
Is there oil on her land, maybe?
So Bill uses Hank's land as a bordello?
Chet is a good man.
You're so cute, Miss Dallas. But you are going to give your daddy gray hair when you reach your teens.
Whoa.
She's too quick to condemn him.
Wow, what a ride! This book kept me glued to my reader from the first page till the last. I carried it around to read while I was doing other stuff and it kept me on my toes till the very end.
I absolutely love Donna Grant's Cowboy books and this one was once again amazing. Cal and Dillon were great together, you could feel their chemistry, I worried and feared with them, I was devastated and furious. Add some other great characters and a captivating storyline - this book is a keeper and one if those books that you definitely read more than once.
A fast paced read.
Who is Cal and what is his part in trying to run Dillon off her ranch. Can she trust him or anyone else around her?
I like how the book is told from different points of view and keeps you guessing.
