cowboys are my jam. I would anything with a cowboy on it. Name on the cover and in the book and I am there. This was a good one.
Thank you NetGalley.
That Cowboy of Mine by Donna Grant is my favorite kind of romance: cowboys. this one woke up on the prairie, not remembering much about the night before and with a shotgun aimed at his head. It was disturbing. then he looked up and saw the beautiful woman aiming the gun and that was really disturbing. He had no idea what was going on. She explained, still holding the shotgun on him, that her prize stallion had been stolen the night before and he was her primary suspect. He'd never steal a horse, so he knew she was wrong. But, what had happened? He went back to her ranch house and barn and met her foreman, a decent older man and very concerned about Dillon. Cal apparently made them trust him because he was hired on the spot to guard Dillon. They tracked the horse to the border of her land and her neighbor's, just where she though he'd be.
This was a good story. It is the typical, someone wants her gone, dead or alive, story but Cal was a good character and a good man and they tracked down the killer before it was all over. There were some surprises involved, and sadly some deaths. The deaths were NOT Dillon or Cal so that was the good news. It was on-again, off-again with Dillon and Cal, both personally and professionally. The bad guys were really bad and would stop at nothing. It was charming, romantic, and frightening, all at the same time. It was a good read.
I was invited to listen to a free e-ARC of That Cowboy of Mine by St Martin's Paperbacks, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #stmartins #thatcowboyofmine #donnagrant
I just could not get into this book and didn't very much like the concept of it. I think this just wasn't it for me or maybe it just wasn't the right time for me to be reading this one. I may try again at a later time but I just did not like this. I have read some romance but nothing with cowboys.
Cal wakes up in a field he doesn’t recognize and Dillion standing over him. Dillion doesn’t know how he got on her land, but she suspects her wealthy neighbor who keeps trying to buy her land.
With the arrival of Cal, is also the same time her prized stallion goes missing. While Dillion is suspicious of Cal, he also saves her life when someone shoots at her.
While Dillion is fiercely independent she does agree that she needs help. So she lets Dillion stay on as a ranch hand, and to help figure out why she’s in danger.
This was suspenseful, mysterious, and full of steam too and these two get closer while trying to figure out how to keep her ranch from getting into the wrong hands!
Highly recommend this one for those who love a little mystery with their steam.
If you love Romantic Suspense that will grip you from the opening pages right through to the final word without setting the book down for more than quick breaks for coffee and such… then you will devour That Cowboy of Mine.
While the cover description tells you most of what you’d want to know before picking up Cal and Dillion’s story, what it doesn’t tell you about are the conflicting emotions that fly across the pages as Dillion tries to figure out why on one hand she trusts this stranger who appeared on her property the morning after her prized stallion was stolen even though logically she shouldn’t… but he did save her from a bullet even as she held a shotgun on him. So begins the strange and compelling complexity of what Cal and Dillion face in That Cowboy of Mine.
There are some nasty people in this story, men who have no issue with taking what isn’t lawfully theirs, men who could have someone killed moments after taking afternoon tea together. Yeah, that soulless kind of villain. There are also surprises along the way, so much so that you’ll constantly be on edge as even more clues and more frustrations are revealed. All the while watching a couple fall for each other when there is absolutely no reason for trust between them. I hurt for Cal, who has no clue as to why he was on Dillion’s property, as well as for Dillion as she finds herself drawn to a man she knows she should not trust. As their emotional connection grows so do the tensions, and the danger facing Dillion.
This was a story that I could not put down. I know, that’s said a lot, yet every time I was needed elsewhere I found a reason to keep on reading until I knew what happens to this couple, to the ranch, to the stallion, and who was it that remained in the shadows undetected. I’ve enjoyed Donna Grant’s work for a while now, but I think this is her best in this genre… and I wish it was the beginning of a series instead of a standalone for I would have loved to return to this world again. If you want a compelling, addicting story for your next Romantic Suspense/Modern Western Romance story? Then pick up That Cowboy of Mine… right now, you won’t be disappointed.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
5 Is He the Enemy Stars!!!
It’s another great book from Ms. Grant. I love cowboy romances and Ms. Grant delivers with this book giving us a great story that is full of twists and turns along with a connection between our H/h Cal and Dillon that neither expected nor were looking for.
I love how the story builds as I flipped the pages. There are heart stopping moments when each of them questioned what was happening on the ranch that Dillon inherited. And let me tell you, as I moved closer to the end of this book, thinking I had it ALL figured out… nope… not in any way did I expect the who’s, what’s and why’s… one of the main reasons I love Ms. Grant’s writing and storytelling. She keeps us on our toes throughout the book which meant I couldn’t put it down, because I wanted and needed to see what happened next!
This is a Cowboy Romantic Suspense. This book takes you on a great ride that has action, suspense, and some romance. I loved the two main characters (Cal and Dillon) in this book. Cal and Dillon just worked together so well, and you could feel their love for each other coming off the pages. The ending of this book was just so good. There was a lot going on in this book, and this book was non stop until the end which I loved so much. I did see some of the twists coming. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (St. Martin's) or author (Donna Grant) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
If you love a cowboy in your romantic suspense stories, this ones for you. Cal wakes to the sound of a rifle being cocked and thus begins Dillion's and Cal relationship. She does not trust him and the fact that her horse was stolen the same night, she suspects him. This story was pretty good, we find out quickly who the bad guys are and I could not wait for them to be caught. Cal has baggage and so does Dillion. Getting them to let go of it was not easy.
That Cowboy of Mine was a great romantic suspense read!
Dillion has inherited her aunt's ranch, but someone wants her to leave. When she meets Cal it's not so much a meet cute as a meet the drunk guy then get shot at by someone else.
The mystery and suspense really drew me in with just enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. I also thought the relationship development between Val and Dillon as they grew closer was nicely done. They had tons of chemistry from the beginning and I liked their HEA.
That Cowboy of Mine is a wonderful story with endearing characters. Dillon and Cal are are a great couple with amazing chemistry. This suspenseful read pulled me in from the beginning and kept my attention until the end. It was a fast-paced, suspenseful read with twists and turns that will keep you guessing.
That Cowboy of Mine by Donna Grant is a cowboy romantic suspense novel that will take you on a thrilling ride with action, suspense, and some romance. There were non-stop twists and turns, heated drama, and undeniable chemistry until the end, which I loved so much. I did see some of the twists coming.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
Wow, there was so much drama, intrigue and back stabbing in this book, along with lots of twists, secrets revealed and of course the romance.
Dillon has been trying to keep her ranch going while under threats of violence which have now escalated and Cal wakes up on Dillon's ranch and doesn't know how he got there.
From there, it is a ride for them to figure out who is behind this and it it not just one villain and the betrayals are brutal. I don't want to give to much away but through all the trouble and misunderstandings, there actually is a great HEA for Cal and Dillon!
THAT COWBOY OF MINE is a contemporary romance by Donna Grant that will have you lost in the pages.

Gripping, menacing, and taut!
That Cowboy of Mine is a riveting, seductive tale that takes us to Hill Country, Texas and into the life of the strong, confident Dillion Young who, after inheriting her Aunt Dolly’s ranch and deciding to stay, quickly discovers that someone desperately wants her to leave and figuring out the good guys from the bad is going to be a lot harder than she originally expected, especially when it comes to the ruggedly handsome, bull rider Cal Bennett who suspiciously turned up just when she needed him.
The writing is sharp and crisp. The characters are complex, wary, and intriguing. And the plot is a passionate tale filled with twists, turns, secrets, red herrings, lies, danger, sexual attraction, mayhem, betrayal, corruption, and steamy romance.
Overall, That Cowboy of Mine is an action-packed, twisty, satisfying standalone by Grant that kept me on my toes, warmed my heart, and certainly left me eager for more.
3.75 stars--THAT COWBOY OF MINE by Donna Grant is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, romance story line focusing on ranch owner Dillon Young, and former bull rider Cal Bennett.
Told from third person perspective THAT COWBOY OF MINE follows in the wake of Dillon Young finding a hung over and injured Cal Bennett in one of her fields. Unable to remember what happened or how he go there, former bull rider Cal Bennett offers to work as a ranch hand, someone of whom Dillon is desperate since the walk out of most of her help. Dillon Young inherited the Bar 4 Ranch from her late aunt Dolly but in the ensuing time the neighbor Hank Stephens has insisted Dillon sell the ranch. Refusing to bend to Hank’s demands, Dillon finds herself the victim of several attacks, and if not for our hero, Dillon’s life would have already been lost. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Dillon and Cal, and the potential fall-out as issues of trust force Cal out of Dillon’s life, ensuring our heroine is an easy target for the people desperate to take control of the Bar 4 Ranch.
Cal Bennett, like his father, has ridden the bulls for most of his life but his recent losses on the riding circuit found Cal wandering with no apparent aim in life. Unable to remember how he arrived at the Bar 4 Ranch, Cal begins an investigation of his own, believing the attacks against Dillon may be connected to his black out the night before. Dillon Young refuses to sell her aunt Polly’s ranch but someone is making life very difficult for our story line heroine. Unable to trust anyone including the man with whom she is falling in love, Dillon pushes everyone out of her life but leaves herself vulnerable to the people trying to take her down.
The relationship between Dillon and Cal begins when Dillon finds Cal alone on her ranch. Cal offers to help with the ranch by way of apology but Dillon continues to struggle with issues of trust in the wake of everything that has been happening until the present. The slow building relationship falters in the face of mistrust, and Cal refuses to be the cause of any further harm to our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are limited but passionate.
We are introduced to ranch hands Emmett Perkins, Dusty and Freddy Miller; neighbor Hank Stephens, attorney Isaac Gomez, Ranger Chet Thompson, and Sheriff Felps.
THAT COWBOY OF MINE is a story of power, greed, betrayal and vengeance. The premise is entertaining-the suspense is limited as most of the people responsible are revealed early in the story; the characters are wounded but spirited; the romance is intimate but limited and slow to develop.

This was a fantastic cowboy romance. Had all the right stuff and plenty of suspense throughout to keep me intrigued the whole way through to the happily ever afters I crave.
Dillon and Cal were leary of each other with good reason, there's a lot of holes and mystery to each one's background. Surprising twists in here I didn't see coming and I thought it was very well written indeed. A recommended read if you love romance, cowboys, mysteries, or suspense.
I received an ARC thru NetGalley. All opinions are strictly my own.
This story grabbed my attention from the first pages and did not let go until the last one was finished. Ranch owner Dillon Young and cowboy Cal Bennett's story is well written with a very good storyline, the story flowed smoothly across the pages. There is suspense, drama, danger, villains and romance. I would recommend if you like Donna Grant's book. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love the two protagonists in this story.
Dillon Young is a savvy businesswoman, who inherited her ranch from her late aunt. After discovering her prized stallion, Legacy was stolen, she sets out to look for him. Only to find a stallion of another sort, a human one, passed out on her land.
Cal Bennett wakes up with a gun pointed at him and is confused just how he came to be passed out on Dillon's ranch. He has no recollection of how he got there, and he most certainly did not steal a horse!
Although Dillon is suspicious, she gives Cal a lift, but makes a pit stop only to have Cal save her hide. Dillon thinks she knows exactly who was responsible for attempting to kill her and somehow ends up hiring Cal. Dillon is about to learn that Cal is closer to her suspect than she realizes, is he trustworthy?
After a second attempt on her life, which has Cal running to her rescue again, it's agreed that Cal will stay close to her. Cal still has missing pieces of the night he ended up on the ranch. A visit to the bartender doesn't bode well with new facts. A dance has Cal & Dillon seeing each other in a new light, and Cal thinks he's found the woman he's been waiting for and a new lease on life. Dillon makes a discovery that has her second-guessing everyone around her, including Cal, and runs him off.
Dillon is about to go under after losing Legacy, which the horse still can't be located. Two attempts have been made on her life, will a third meet its mark?
This was a wonderful romantic suspense read! I enjoyed it!
I received an ARC from NetGalley via St. Martin's Press and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
