I was fairly entertained, still have a few questions but I guess it that was the idea to keep you wrapped in this series. Overall, it’s a good quick read.
Decent and entertaining read but I feel like there were some gaps and unanswered questions. Kira now has a dad, when in previous books only her stepfather was mentioned. She is also in a new place, Miami, when she was last in the Virgin Islands. If this is a spin-off or continuation, we should be brought up to speed on any changes,
Wifey’s Next Hustle by Kiki Swinson is the first book in her Wifey’s Next Hustle series. This series is a spin-off of her bestselling urban lit Wifey series.
Kira Wade left Virginia and moved to Miami in order to make a change in her life and lifestyle. Working at a car dealership selling high end luxury cars isn’t anything like her past experiences, but she’s not in the clear yet. Will karma allow Kira to escape her old lifestyle?
Kiki Swinson is a giant in the urban lit world, but Wifey’s Next Hustle is not among my favorites. Though I have read and greatly enjoyed previous works by the author, I haven’t read the Wifey series, so perhaps that affected my experience with the debut of this new spinoff series. The novel is readable as a standalone, but in my opinion, reading the Wifey series beforehand would have added needed background. Kira seemed simple and simple-minded. I just couldn’t bring myself to care what happened to her. The story had a decent plot and flowed fairly well. The ending is a cliffhanger, so I’m off to read the next installment. Overall, I found the novel to be just okay. I rate it 3 out of 5 stars and recommend it to readers of urban lit fiction, especially multicultural fiction.
My thanks to Kensington Books, Dafina, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
I have missed several books in this series, but I didn't need to read the other books to maintain an understanding with this story (even though I plan to go back and get caught up). I was able to enjoy this book and sometimes I wanted to strangle Kira several times like, girl, ain't you learned your lesson yet. But I did enjoy this story very much, and this is one of the few urban/street lit books I actually enjoy. This does seem to appear as if it's a reissue/reprint.
I recieved a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
I loved the other wifey books but this one kind of fell flat to me and I didn’t enjoy the writing style.
