Her life appears to be perfect, with a wonderful home and a wonderful husband, but she is about to discover that it is all a ruse on the part of her husband. He has a fantastic double life, and it is about to come crashing down around him. She will be involved in a shooting that will alter her perspective on life, including her marriage. Will everything work out? Is he capable of repairing the damage? Let's see how it goes.
What a good story. The storyline was quite unbelievable but was still quite good. Nice overall writing
Oy.
I suppose I should first say that the story is readable, so maybe one star is unfair, but a sloppily put together book really annoys me. So much is missing from the plot that I had a hard time understanding how this book ever made it to the ARC stage. (Additionally, I usually avoid commenting on editorial failures with an ARC, but either this book never crossed an editor's desk or the publisher cut corners by hiring an orangutan to do the work.)
Vaguely reminiscent of True Lies, this story follows a secret agent who pretends to be a run-of-the-mill marketing professional, totally keeping his naive and innocent wife in the dark. All she knows is that he's constantly cancelling on her if he even remembers they had plans. Unfortunately, Matthew's work soon cuts too close to home, putting Jacqueline in danger.
The story has a pretty basic plot that could be really good...only it isn't. Character development is uneven, and the plot can't seem to decide what it is supposed to be. Jackie, as we are told, grew up in a strict religious household, and the author stops just shy of stating that she's repressed. She is totally uncomfortable sexually with Matthew (even though it was orchestrated, how they ever got to the point of marriage is a mystery), yet she cusses like a sailor, liberally dropping f-bombs with great skill. I kept waiting for Jackie to become interesting, but she's just a boring but nice young woman with a potty mouth. Matthew is more typical of your alpha spy hero, and his devotion to Jackie could be romance reader crack if there was any actual chemistry between them.
The plot. 🤷🏽♀️ It started off as if the baddies were members of Jackie's parents' church, and maybe they were? I got a little confused when the focus pulled away from the church and started focusing on some drug cartel dude, or maybe I just stopped paying attention.
I dunno. It was just... oy.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!
This is a first time read for my by this author so I didn't have any specific expectations going into it. I found the story to be interesting and entertaining and it kept my attention all the way through. I have recently been drawn to spy stories, so I was excited to start reading this. Matthew, like the title suggests, works undercover for the government, with his wife, Jackie, none the wiser thinking that he works in marketing. Matthew has to constantly balance his secret life with the life he leads with his wife, and when his undercover life puts his wife in danger, things become more complicated. The story was very interesting and engaging and kept my interest throughout. I enjoyed the way Jackie's character evolved and she became a bolder, stronger character. There were some twists and turns in the plot that kept me interested and turning the pages anxious to see how things played out. This is the first of the series and I think it is off to a great start. This was an enjoyable read and I am definitely interested in continuing the series.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Catherine Edward Husband Undercover has protentional to be a fun story instead falls flat with endless sex scenes, talk about sex and hot Jacks husbands' body is.
The story feels old as in 20 years behind time expect for the use of cell phones. The characters are flat and lack any creative side to them. The author tries hard but even the side story of Phantom Agents is lacks focus. Leaving readers with a less than stellar book series. The sad part is even the moments of humor come off awkward.

The premise and outline is a fantastic idea. It’s just too long and drawn out keeping the pace slow. Again, loved the idea but it needed tightening and a strong and honest editor/beta readers to keep it on track and clean up the grammatical errors.
An advanced reader copy of this book was provided by the author/publisher with no expectations and in no way influences my review.
I really wanted to like this one, Unfortunately, the writing was not good overall. The characters were a bit one-sided. I finished it - because I had to know what happened, but not for the overall writing, character development, editing, etc
This story had some fun twists! two very different characters that wind up together and life takes them on a journey they certainly weren't expecting! I had a lot of fun reading this one and am looking forward to more from ms. Edward
This book was fun! Almost a 1950s era story. Wife is naive, and gullible. Husband is an undercover spy who is trying to protect his wife by hiding his identity from her. Eventually she catches on and becomes too involved. I read it in a day, and enjoyed it all.
I was given this book for an honest review. It began a bit boring but I really hoped it would pick up. It did. Jackie seas a bit of a cry baby and I didn't like her much. But when the action began at about 60% she had gained a lot of strength. I liked her much more when she was stronger. In the beginning she just didn't match with Matthew. Due to the story getting better towards the end, I am looking forward to book 2
I rate this book 3.8. The story was quite interesting actually but I just can't go deep with this. There were a few moments that I found weird. Maybe weird is not the right word. I feel like something is missing but I don't what it is. Still, I wanted to know more about Maya and Brick. I know both of them are not the main topic here, but I can't help myself from wanting to know about them. Not to forget, what happened to that guy Vincent? He escaped just like that, and then, that's it? no more news about him? I want to know what happened to him tho. But, yup, until the end I didn't get the answer. Quite frustrating actually. Also, something is missing in Matthew and Jackie's relationship. They were sweet and hot with each other, but I didn't really feel their love and their attraction. Maybe it was just me (it does look like that tho). But, anyway, this book is interesting. It was okay. If you want to read it, yes you may. If you don't, then don't. That's it.
I normally don’t read spy/military type books or books where they are already married and in love but the blurb had me sucked in.
Matthew is a secret agent hiding a secret from his kindergarten teacher wife Jackie. He knows he needs to eventually tell her the truth, but he is not sure how she will take it. Then her life is turned upside down and he has no choice but to hope she doesn’t leave him.
I did enjoy the story enough to keep reading. However, there were moments and scenes that felt like filler and others that became repetitive. I found myself skimming way more than I usually do and wishing that it was more to the point at moments.
This story is about Jackie and Matthew marriage and secrets being exposed. Jackie is a very sweet, mild, but naïve wife. She has let whatever her husband says and does go. Her friend is the one who is raising some red flags about Matthew’s job. As the story unfolds, Jackie gets smarter and becomes a stronger female character than she was in the beginning. All Matthew wanted to do was protect his wife at all costs. Can he do that and keep is job a secret? This books ends with a great lead to the next book in the series.
Let me start off by saying the premise of this story is amazing. The how they met and fell in love was great. The ‘outline’ of this story is very interesting and entertaining. But the ‘guts’ of story had MANY moments where it just dragged on and on and on….
I wanted to know how it ended and I wanted bits and pieces opposed to just simply skipping to the end. So I skipped pages (not chapters) at a time. I think this story was just too ‘watered’ down for me and could be perfect with some tweaking. Maybe…. Hopefully… definitely has potential.
