I thought this would be a fun read, but it was unfortunately not my cup of tea. All in all it was okay.

I was very excited to read this book after watching #EnolaHolmes on @netflix. I actually watched the movie 3 times because I enjoyed it so much. Needless to say, I was very excited when I found out there were graphic novels being released on May 24th.

I haven’t read a graphic novel in a very long time and I forgot how enjoyable they are. This graphic novel in particular contains 3 stories. The first of which follows the Netflix storyline. While I enjoyed the first story, the second and third stories really piqued my interest since I didn’t know anything about them.
This book is an enjoyable, fast read and perfect for reading with kids. Also, I have to mention that the art is just so gorgeous. With every turn of the page, you get colorful pictures that make the book that much more enjoyable.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

I really slept on the Enola Holmes train! Having read the newest book by Nancy Springer last year, I was really excited to see some of the other stories adapted into graphic novel form. The movie is so fun, and these mysteries are so entertaining, so it is nice to get to visually see what is happening in the story. The art in this set is really beautiful. I love all of the pieces of art/bonus content in-between stories, as I think it really ties each case together and makes it feel fuller. The stories themselves are great, but it isn't hard when you have great source material. This was a really fun way to read some Enola Holmes stories, and I look forward to reading the next set of graphic novels! 5/5

I chose this one because I watched the Netflix film version and really enjoyed it. There are three different volumes in this book and it was a treat to read them! Hopefully, everyone else will enjoy it too.

Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for giving the opportunity to read this.

This is a great adaption of Enola Holmes. The way the author draws Enola really expresses her youthful yet vulnerable side. I think I've been spoiled from the BBC and the netflix adaption of sherlock characters to be a little started at the characterization of such an older aged mycroft.

The book's spirit is very clear and apparent in the visual medium.

I loved this graphic novel! Amazing writing and even better illustrations. I will definitely get my hands on a copy when this wonderful novel hits the stores! Highly recommend.

I love the Enola Holmes books so decided to give the graphic novel a go! This is about a 14 year old girl whose mom goes missing so she escapes from her brothers who want to put her in boarding school to find out what happened herself. Sometimes I find graphic novels easier than the novel, sometimes I find them harder. In this case, the art style was beautiful but I struggled to read a lot of the words with the font of the text. The art looks like a watercolor painting with anime eyes! It really helped bring it to life even more. The dresses and expressions stood out to me. Overall an enjoyable female spin on Sherlock Holmes.

Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a great early introduction to Sherlock Holmes for middle grade readers.

The stories and illustrations are engaging. My middle grade daughter and I had fun deciphering the clues and solving the mysteries alongside Enola. Enola is clever and intuitive. She sets a good example for being independent, trusting yourself and your instincts, and getting creative in problem-solving.

The illustrations bring the setting and atmosphere of 1880s England to life for young readers. My daughter loves the style of the illustrations and wants to emulate them.

For those with kids on the younger end of the recommended age group, be aware that there are attempts on Enola’s life in the book, someone being institutionalized, a murder, and a Jack the Ripper reference.

These three stories were so much fun and I couldn’t put this one down once I started. Enola is such an interesting character and watching her grow older and learn more is entrancing. The cases are different enough to have you invested the whole time and be guessing along with Enola. The coded messages are fascinating as well. These stories can be read at any age and enjoyed anyone. I will absolutely read further installments.

I was unable to read the entire book due to a potentially corrupted file or bad scan of the pages. Color and words were missing on several pages.
Regardless, I have read the chapter books and am thrilled they are getting a graphic novel made of them. True, graphic novels don't get all the details and emphasis a traditional novel can get across they however have made it far easier for people to read more complex books who normally may have struggled maintaining interest or have some other difficultly with reading only words. My daughter loves graphic novels and reads far above grade level with them. Give her a traditional book and she's barely at grade level.
The Enola Holms stories are an amazing read for anyone who loves a good mystery. They are well thought out and inteligente while not being full of itself. I quike enjoy Enola's character and books better than any Sherlock story.

An an original spin on Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes' novels.

Enola, the youngest Holmes sibling, gets more than she bargained for on the morning of her fourteenth birthday when she wakes up to find her mother missing. The Holmes brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft, are sent for and immediately decide to place Enola in a boarding school for ladies - a place that will re-make bright, adventurous Enola into a passive, ornamental society wife. Remembering her mother's love of ciphers, Enola looks more closely at her birthday presents: a book on the language of flowers and one on coded messages - with a hidden message hidden. Following the clues, Enola discovers a secret stash of money stockpiled by her mother (from funds that Mycroft sent to pay for stable hands, gardeners and governesses she never hired). Enola uses her mother's gift to escape and sets herself up as a detective in London. Her first cases bring home the many ways that women are disenfranchised in society. Enola begins to understand the deeper reasons why Mother left her controlled and cloistered life as a society lady, and begins to see her mother's messages as poignant clues for how she, Enola, might control her own future.

Blasco's art is a blend of many different graphic styles. Enola is drawn with hints of anime, which highlights her role as the main protagonist and creates a kind of superhero aura about her. Other characters are drawn just as distinctly. Sherlock's nose is so high in the air that he often fails to see Enola, who's hiding right under it.

The love between mother and daughter, although constant, is difficult for Enola to understand and accept. Everything's a cipher. Desertion is revealed as a bid for freedom, not only for Enola's mother but for Enola herself. Mother gives Enola something much stronger than comfort: a trust in Enola's abilities to solve her coded messages - a trust that Enola will need to develop in herself if she's to have any sort of meaningful life. Enola's loneliness, while she struggles to solve Mother's puzzles and tries to outwit her sexist brothers, is both poignant and necessary.

I'm partial to well-executed, ambiguous endings and this first volume of Enola Holmes: The Graphic Novels, delivers. Enola's adventures leave her stronger and more resolved, with enough mystery to intrigue us for later books.

Thank you for an arc of this in exchange for an honest review! I've never seen the Enola Holmes Netflix show, but I've always loved the BBC Sherlock one and the original Sherlock Holmes novels, so I decided to give this one a shot. I really enjoyed these graphic novels and the themes throughout of gender discrimination and stereotyping. I also really enjoyed Enola Holmes as a main character and the art style. The watercolor artwork was stunning and helped to keep me engaged while reading. The storyline was also easy to follow, yet entertaining, and I now want to finally watch the TV show!

This was a fun read. I never watched the Netflix release and I’ve not really watched or read much Sherlock. But this was great, I think kids will really enjoy it, especially ones who enjoy puzzles.

After watching the film on Netflix, I thought this would be a good read , since I had absolutely loved the story of the film!

The images were gorgeous and I loved all the little attentions to detail; they really captured the story perfectly!

However, I found the actual story a little bit boring. I'm not sure if it was because I already knew it, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I probably could have. I felt that the graphic novel focused the adventure side of this story rather than the actual mystery side, which is what I initially wanted to read it for.

It was still a good graphic novel, just not for me.

I like Enola Holmes mysteries and this graphic novel was just the thing for me. It is pretty accurately based on the first three books and is in no way been affected by the movie which is different from the original story, although it’s not in any way a bad thing, as it was in fact quite a good movie! 😊
I enjoyed being back in the start of Enola’s adventures. The art was beautiful and illustrated the characters really well. Some of the more nastier details were omitted but overall it was a great retelling of the novels!😊

I tried to download this book, but it didn't show up on my NetGalley Shelf app, so I couldn't read it.

I gave it five stars, but I haven't read it at all due to technical issues.

This is a truly BEAUTIFUL graphic novel. I'm a huge fan of the entire Sherlock Holmes canon and will read nearly everything related to that world's best detective. I have read all of the Enola Homles books, and this Graphic Novel was a perfect complement to them. The emotions of the faces of the characters are so genuine and lovely! I'd highly recommend this to anyone who loves graphic novels and detective stories.....or anyone who loves a smart and sassy female lead!

enola holmes wasn’t a character i was familiar with, having only ever read arthur conan doyle’s adventures of sherlock holmes. this graphic novel managed to make me feel connected to her, as if she was a little sister i was watching out for. i loved it!

the art style is phenomenal. bright, colourful and with amazing sketches, it decorated the story perfectly and was probably my favourite element of the whole book.

i liked enola as a character, she was fun and easy to read about. the plot of the 3 stories was engaging, and it made it very easy to finish this within one sitting. this was a very oleander, feel good reading experience. i’m really glad i picked this up!
