I did not finish this one. I need to start the series from the start and I was just little confused on the characters for now so I put it aside and once I sit down and get the series I will revisit this one
DNF @20%
Oh, for Pete's sakes, Kris! This one is on me. I DNF the first book, and did not realize this was book two in that series. As I was listening I thought it sounded familiar and I figured out it was book two. I thought I would try it in case book two was any better. Ah, well.
***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***
Heather Graham is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her stories are tense, fast-paced, and have engaging characters.
Very good read highly recommended. I totally recommend this book to friends and family it does not disappoint. Hope to read more books by this author in the near future.
Heather Graham is an excellent writer. This is another fantastic edition to her book list. I would recommend it to my friends.
This book was an absolute pleasure to read. Anything by Heather Graham is actually. I highly recommend this book.
Heather Graham has been at the top of her game for decades and after racing through her latest thriller, Crimson Summer, it’s not hard to see why. Fast-paced, brilliantly plotted and full of twists and turns readers won’t see coming, Crimson Summer is the latest surefire bestseller from this much-loved reader favorite.
When FLDE special agent Amy Larson finds a small horse figurine amid the bloody wreckage of a gang massacre in the Everglades, shivers of apprehension and trepidation begin to race up and down her spine. What other dismiss as a toy is actually the calling card of the apocalypse cult Amy and her partner, FBI Special Agent Hunter Forrest, have been investigating. Amy and Hunter know that this was not an isolated bloody incident, but the beginning of a grim and gory war the cult is determined to win at all costs – unless the two agents can stop them in time.
As tensions between rival gangs escalate to an alarming crescendo, the body count also begins to rise at a terrifying rate. Amy and Hunter’s investigation leads them to a violent far right extremist group who are not exactly falling over themselves to put a stop to this war. With enemies round every corner and danger and jeopardy dogging their every step, Amy and Hunter have got quite a challenge on their hands. With a puppet master intent on throwing a spanner in the works at every turn, Amy and Hunter will be tested like never before. Who is this puppet master? Can the agents stop this dangerous adversary in time?
This cartel turf war will continue to claim more bodies and ruin more lives. Will the Everglades ever be safe again? Or will Amy and Hunter end up as casualties in this ruthless battle for supremacy?
Heather Graham knows how to pen action-packed chillers that keep readers turning the pages late into the night and in Crimson Summer, she has written a dark, tense and shocking thriller that is absolutely impossible to put down.
Amy and Hunter are a fantastic double-act. They are brave, intelligent and fearless and they will certainly keep readers entertained as they find themselves solving what could well be one of the most challenging cases of their career.
An addictive thriller I couldn’t stop myself from devouring, Crimson Summer is the latest triumph for master storyteller Heather Graham.
FDLE special agent Amy Larson and FBI Agent Hunter Forrest took some time off together t get to know each other acquainted. Amy finds the small red horse in the sheets their rest is cancelled. Amy know the red horse means war. The horse in this novel represents one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. When they get back to the USA, they discover that there was a gang massacre in the Everglades. The gang was killed by arrows and axes. It was done this way so Native Americans or the other “gang” would be thought guilty of this crime. A boat touring the glades saw the results of the massacre. While Amy and Hunter try ro figure out what will happen next, they decide to keep the tourists of the touring bus from harms’ way. Will they be able to find out who killed the gang. Is it to start a war?
The author has written a novel that has twists and turns while trying to discover who did the killing. It is scary at times. She forms a path that is always twisted - to the surprising end.. This is one of the few mysteries that I was constantly guessing who the red horse is and found myself re-reading just to see what clues I missed, and they are there - so read carefully. As always, the way Ms. Graham writes will take you to the various sites CRIMSON SUMMER took place. There is some romance in the mystery too. I read this novel as a stand alone novel. This is the second volume in the series. I think you can enjoy the book without reading the previous one. I do admit though that I will be going back to read the first volume.
This is the second book of the Any Larson and Hunter Forrest novels. Following the gruesome murders from the previous novel, Danger in Numbers, the duo continue investigating the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse crimes and this one is the red horse symbolizing war. Again, it’s fast pace and keeps you guessing who done it type of suspense. Fun read and kept my interest. Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy!
Heather Graham continues the adventures of FDLE special agent Amy Larson and FBI special agent Hunter Forrest who are on the track of the red horse, which is the symbol of the person who is trying to stir up war between gangs and religions as a step toward upsetting the balance of the world order. The white order was a zealot who tried to guide a cult to kill victims and follow his least order; that man is in jail thanks to the agents. Now mass killings are occurring in the Everglades and New York. Every clue they find turns up leads to more crimes. Exciting fast moving thriller.
Crimson Summer is the second book in the crime thriller series, Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI. Although each case is solved before the book ends, I recommend your read this series in order. FDLE Special Agent Amy Larson and FBI Special Agent Hunter Forrest are on vacation when they receive a small red toy horse figurine delivered to their room. When they return to Florida, they are called to a massacre in the Everglades. It is staged to look like a native killing but the weapons were inconsistent with the indigenous people in the area. While sifting through the crime scene, Amy finds a small red horse, the calling card of an apocalypse cult that Amy and Hunter have been investigating. They now know that the cult they shut down is only the beginning. As more people are killed, Larson & Forrest are racing against the clock to find out who the mastermind is in order to stop the killing.
This is a fast paced story with a lot of twists and turns. Between Florida, New York, and Chicago we see Amy and Hunter traveling to crime scenes using their skills of questioning, solving puzzles and observation to begin to uncover what is happening. Although there are some brutal crimes and danger, I wouldn't classify this as a dark story. Amy and Hunter are involved in a relationship, and this keeps it lighter. The overall story arc of the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" is very interesting and has had me doing some research of my own. Of course, it also means there are going to be two more books in the series. Although I feel these books are more crime thriller, there is also a romantic suspense storyline. I like their relationship and how it progresses without overpowering the story. I did figure out who the puppet master was before the final, dangerous showdown, but only just. An excellent story that has me ready for book three, which should be the black horse. If you enjoy crime thrillers with a splash of romance, then I definitely recommend you pick this book up.
CRIMSON SUMMER is book 2 in the romantic suspense series following Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent Amy Larson and FBI agent Hunter Forrest as the try to solve who is the mastermind behind several massacres across three different states. The culprits from book, a millionaire cult leader and his son, are now in jail. Seemingly not a threat anymore, Amy and Hunter receive a red horse figurine with their room service while they’re taking a much needed beach vacation, signaling that the killings are not over–they’ve just changed tactic in committing these crimes. The new crimes take Amy and Hunter from Florida’s everglades to New York City and Chicago, where they track down the trails to just who wants to cause mass chaos in the world. The first book featured the first horseman of the apocalypse, the white horse, and now it seems that War has been unleashed on the world in book two.
While this can be read as a standalone, I do recommend readers start with DANGER IN NUMBERS so they can be there for Amy and Hunter’s journey into romance, as well as their many brushes with death as they get to leader of a dangerous religious cult. In the second installment, rival gangs seem to be taking each other out in high numbers. But it’s quickly turning into another cultish group that wants to misdirect law enforcement, as well as punish it’s members for not fulfilling their parts, and Amy and Hunter have their work cut out for them along with Amy’s partner John and forensic scientist extraordinaire Aiden.
I had read a few chapters of the ebook before switching to the audiobook. I’m finding myself craving the written word read to me so I can work and listen at the same time. The narrator did a fantastic job with all the characters, and I was able to get through the entire book during one work day. The audiobook worked really well keeping up the tense pace and suspense, especially as they close in on a suspect and weed out who’s just a pawn and not ultimately the ring leader. I was kept guessing until almost the end about who was the ultimate bad guy in a world full of less-than-good people.
I give CRIMSON SUMMER a four out of five. I highly recommend this romantic suspense series by Heather Graham. The law enforcement aspects are realistic enough and the characters are not one note. I was glad to see more of the forensics guru investigating with them, as well as the eager new FBI agent keeping surveillance with a wide variety of disguises. Amy and Hunter’s relationship is a light amongst a dark world, and I really enjoyed their time together both in a professional and personal capacity. I look forward to the next two horseman coming into their world–and the chaos that is ultimately dished out.
Amy may be new to the FBI, but she knows what she is doing. Hunter is not looking for a new, and to him green, partner as things are heating up on this case. He wants to work fast and do what he can to save lives. Quick pace and plenty of action as we get a glimpse of some of our favorites from the Krewe series.
Crimson Summer is the second novel in Heather Graham's Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI series. The series follows two agents, a dangerous cult and the dangers that arise when they intersect. In other words, it's perfect for thrill-seeking readers everywhere.
FDLE special agent Amy Larson and FBI special agent Hunter Forrest handle many cases. But together, they only ever focus on one – the hunting of an apocalypse cult. So naturally, when Amy finds evidence of their involvement in a recent massacre, she knows it's time to bring Hunter into the fray.
Dealing with a cult is bad enough. Handling a gang massacre on top of things spells danger and disaster. Will Amy and Hunter have what it takes to solve the case, find the cult, and survive?
Crimson Summer is every bit the continuation that I had hoped for. Last we saw the introduction of this cult, and it has been stuck in the back of my brain ever since. Now, we get to see the story progress a bit more, and it is so satisfying.
Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI is a police procedural and murder mystery for those new to the series. As mentioned above, the dynamic duo has a specific focus, making this series stand out a bit more. Not to mention, it makes it quite a bit darker.
What I love about Crimson Summer (and again, the series) is the characters. Amy and Hunter are very different, yet they're perfect as a team. They also make for strong leading perspectives, making it easy to dive back into their stories and enjoy everything.
Author Heather Graham knows how to scare her readers (in a good way), then put them at ease as she weaves a path that is always twisted and turning - to the often-surprising finale.

Crimson Summer picks up pretty much right after the first book, Danger in Numbers, left off. I would not read this book without reading the first one. This one absolutely spoils the events and twists in the first book. This time, Amy and Hunter are after the Red Horse. The Red Horse seems hell bent on starting wars all over the US.
I really enjoyed this second book. As with the first one, I loved the relationship between Amy and Hunter. It grows stronger even more in this one. They have great banter and have mutual respect for each other. The mystery was interesting and a race against time. I was engaged throughout and couldn't put the book down. I did call one twist, but the rest were a surprise. I definitely recommend this one.
This book started and straight off I felt like I was missing the beginning. Then they started explaining and apparently this is the second book in a series and I wouldn’t say they were stand-alones. The dialogue between characters, who supposedly knew each other, was forced. In addition, they had in-depth speculative discussions at a crime scene with 20 dead! Hello!! Process the bodies and evidence THEN discuss!
There was also quite a bit of repetition of phrases. I would reread and go back a page to verify that I wasn’t repeating the same page on accident.
All in all I just couldn’t get very far. I tried several times to get through this book and even skipped whole sections and tried to see if things were flowing later in the book…. No luck. Then thought I should go read the first book in the series but found that I didn’t care about or like the characters well enough to do that.
So this was a Did Not Finish for me. I really tried because of it being an ARC but just couldn’t.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Special Agent Amy Larson and FBI agent Hunter Forrest has to cut their honeymoon short when they find another lead to the case they ware working on that appears to be leading towards starting a war. The body count rises as they get closer to figuring out who are the leaders of these turf war are.
So much to enjoy about this book. I loved the suspense of wondering who was behind this. It was interesting seeing what these people were dealing with with each tense situation they found themselves in. These gang members were just leading a change and I was hopeful they that soon they would find how was behind this and overall this book was just a great mystery suspense novel. Highly recommend you mystery lovers to check out this book but be sure to check out the previous to really see what these two have been going through while working on this case.
Crimson Summer is the second in a series, following Danger in Numbers, which is where I suggest you begin. We jump right in where book one left off, so I’m not sure this one will work well as a stand-alone.
The writing is strongly plot-driven. Lots of characters are introduced, without much development. We get to know them somewhat as the story goes on, but their relationships and conversations often feel forced and/or awkward.
Pacing is quick and the plot is complex. For me, it all felt too wide-reaching and, consequently, scattered and sometimes difficult to follow.
I've been waiting for this second Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI book since I finished book one, and this one is just as gritty and gripping. There is a series arc that I feel necessitates reading the books in order. If you read the first book, then you have an idea of what to expect as far as the crime scenes go. The blurb mentions a drug cartel, and Heather Graham doesn't beat around the bush in her descriptions of the bloody mess a turf war can be. This series is definitely not for the squeamish. Thankfully, we do get some lighter moments to balance it out. I am always on the lookout for a new crime thriller series, and I'm really liking Amy and Hunter. Like the first book, Crimson Summer kept me on my toes, and once again, Graham has given me a hard-to-put-down novel that I won't soon forget. In fact, I'll be anxiously awaiting the next investigation for these characters.
