I've had this on my shelf for a very long time and now, after turning the final page, am mad at myself for taking so long to read it.
This is a beautiful story about love, loss, second chances, grief, forgiveness...so many things! I absolutely loved Avery from the start even though she was somewhat of a tragically flawed character, at least initially. I even really liked Elle and later Willow. All the characters were excellent and even when they weren't all the likeable you still couldn't help but love them. I was captivated by the farm setting (in NC) and loved how this story played out. I absolutely positively did NOT see the twist coming probably because a beautiful story such as this usually doesn't have one!! I'd totally recommend this book, especially for readers who love Carley Fortune and her types of books.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this lovely book, even if I was very very late getting it done! I can't wait to tell others about this sweet story that doesn't get the attention it so deserves!
Great book. I enjoyed Reading it. The characters and plot were interesting life like and easy to connect with.
This was an amazing, feel good, sweet book that had me laughing and crying and wanting everything to go right. Highly recommend!
Rochelle B. Weinstein is an automatic read author for me. I love everything she puts on paper. This book is no exception. Both moving and real, she’s written another gem with #WhenWeLetGo, filled with lots of emotion.
Thank you, ,Rochelle B. Weinstein, Amazon, Lake Union, & netgalley for my copy. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review. I'm sure I requested this one because I liked the cover and I liked the name and I actually liked the book just as much as I thought I might. There were so many stories within the main story that it was sometimes hard for me to keep up with everything that was going on but it starts with a proposal that isn't accepted because of too much hurt in the past and a teen girl who ends up on a trip she wasn't planning on when she decided to sleep off her drunken stupor in her Dad's girlfriend's car...once this all happens, the rest is just amazing to me. It was full of personal growth for multiple characters and self love and real love and I pretty much just have nice things to say about it :)
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. As someone who has a rocky stance with my family, I can relate to this character so much, especially with it involving marriage and trying to resolve the past before moving on with the future. This was a lovely read.
"When We Let Go" by Rochelle B. Weinstein is a poignant and emotionally resonant tale that navigates the complexities of love, loss, and the pursuit of second chances. The novel earns a solid four-star rating for its heartfelt exploration of the intricacies within families, and the healing power that comes from confronting the past.
The story centers around Avery Beckett, who is proposed to by Jude Masters, a widowed father and the man she loves. Instead of pure joy, Avery is filled with apprehension, rooted in the fear that stems from harboring secrets. The novel beautifully captures the nuance of Avery's emotions as she grapples with the idea of family and confronts the doubts that shadow her happiness.
The narrative takes an unexpected turn when Avery returns to her childhood farm in the North Carolina mountains. The addition of Jude's teenage daughter, Elle, who is dealing with the loss of her mother and the complexities of first love, adds depth to the storyline. The evolving relationship between Avery and Elle becomes a focal point, creating an unexpected alliance that serves as a source of courage for both characters.
Rochelle B. Weinstein excels in portraying the emotional journey of mothers and daughters, emphasizing the themes of loss and acceptance. The exploration of Avery's past and her need to reconcile with it contributes to the authenticity of the narrative. The lessons learned from heartbreak and the healing process necessary for embracing second chances are depicted with sensitivity and grace.
The characters are well-developed, and their vulnerabilities make them relatable to readers. The author skillfully weaves a tapestry of emotions, capturing the essence of the human experience. The pacing of the novel is steady, allowing the story to unfold organically, and the prose is both evocative and engaging.
While the novel successfully delves into the complexities of relationships and healing, there are moments when certain plot developments may feel somewhat predictable. Additionally, the resolution, while satisfying, may wrap up certain aspects of the story in a way that could be considered overly tidy.
In conclusion, "When We Let Go" is a touching and beautifully crafted novel that explores themes of love, loss, and the transformative power of second chances. Rochelle B. Weinstein's storytelling prowess shines through, creating an emotionally resonant tale that will leave a lasting impact on readers. This book is recommended for those who appreciate heartfelt stories about family dynamics and the journey toward healing and acceptance.
Really enjoyed reading this one, from the story line to the characters and even the ending!
Honestly, a book I couldn't put down!
This book was such a unique and interesting read. I loved the writing as well as the themes the books revolved around. It was such an enjoyable read I would definitely read from this author again!
An emotional book full of love, loss, guilt, family bonds, grief and second chances. The characters of this book were written very lifelike, full of flaws and worries that many of us have in life. They grew so much from the beginning to end of this book, opening themselves up to new experiences and letting go of the people they once though they would be.
Rochelle Weinstein has a way of drawing you in to her books to make you feel like you are experiencing all of the emotions that the characters are. Her books quickly get you hooked at the beginning and keep you interested until the end. This book was no exception.
I highly recommend this book full of a whirlwind of emotions. It will take you on a satisfying journey of forgiveness and healing while ultimately finding the happiness that those involved never expected to find again.
I really enjoyed this moving novel of growth and grief. Avery and Elle’s relationship was so tender, and I love the healing that Avery found. These types of second chance novels that are done well are rare for me to find, so I really enjoyed the experience of reading this and all the heart and hope it contained.
Thank you netgalley for this copy! I loved this book! From start to finish I was engaged in Avery’s story of heartache and loss. The tragedy and it’s impact on her relationships felt so real. I’m excited to read more from Rochelle after finishing When We Let Go.
Avery Beckett is happy in the new life she has built for herself. But when her boyfriend proposes, her past and secrets keep her from saying yes. She must confront her past in order to build her future.
A beautiful, coming of age story with family drama and second chance romance. Weinstein knows how to hook the reader, commanding all the emotions, The characters are deep and complicated, learning to love and forgive themselves in order to move on. Be ready to binge read this one, and have your tissues handy!
I enjoyed this story and found myself absorbed in what was happening.
Avery has just become engaged, but she's not very happy - this made me interested right away as I wanted to know why. She'd had a difficult past and I wanted to learn more.
I enjoyed finding out although there were some rather emotional moments, but these were very carefully crafted.
The story was full of hope and, despite the difficult areas mentioned which Avery had gone through, the overall feeling of this book was a positive one, inspiring.
It did take a while to get fully engrossed in the story, but once it really got going, I was fully absorbed.
Avery and Willow are sisters - estranged for many years following a tragic event in their small hometown in North Carolina. In the interim, Avery has made a life for herself in Miami, including a somewhat serious relationship with a widower, Jude, and his three children. When she’s forced to face a big challenge in Miami, and her father coincidentally has some medical issues, she heads home to North Carolina.
When We Let Go has some of my favorite themes: mother/daughter and sibling relationships; loss; and second chances, and the settings in North Carolina and Miami (especially Vizcaya) are well developed. Some of the dialogue didn’t seem realistic to me, but it was otherwise another enjoyable book from Ms. Weinstein. Thanks to Netgalley and Kindle for the opportunity to read When We Let Go in exchange for an honest review.
When We Let Go by Rochelle Weinstein🌸
“Being strong . . . it doesn’t always mean being tough. It means letting those terrible feelings in, not pushing them away. It’s letting yourself feel all of it.”
When We Let Go is a story of trauma experienced by a woman who’s facing difficulties within her past and while trying create a future. It’s a lovely story of watching somebody grow and the importance of allowing yourself to feel emotions in order to move forward.
I appreciated how the author wrote about the protagonists emotions in relation to each event and I felt the frustration, care, sadness and happiness on her behalf. I found that the story was quite slow paced which is to be expected with a story such as this one, however it took me a while for me to get into it.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend, however please be aware that grief, loss and difficulties with mental health play a large role within this novel.
Overall this book gets a 4/5 from me. I loved the way it was written and the importance of the subjects that were discussed were highlighted very well.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was given a NetGalley widget for this one a year ago and I just got around to reading it and dangit it was so good. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have consumed this wildly relevant fictional tale, which felt not at all fictional, more like historical fiction, due to the times. The cover initially was what drew me in, but I'm so thankful to have stuck with it because the outcome was magical.
I typically prefer my reading life to be more of a frothy, fun, escape, but I enjoyed this family saga. Stories of grief are hard for me, but I enjoyed the feeling of hope that was woven through the novel.
This was a complete emotional journey. I felt like I really knew the characters and was so sad when the book ended. I was so sad about the tragedy and loss of family connections. I was stunned at the twist!
Avery Beckett is hiding a terrible secret when widower Jude Masters proposes to her. But as she hesitates, scared of both uncovering the truth and a life of hiding it, the moment is interrupted by the news that his children are in hospital. Fearing the dissolution of her relationship, the two take a break and she returns to her family's farm - and the source of her dark, tragic past.
While driving, she discovers one of Jude's children - 16-y-o Elle stowing away and the two begin a fraught journey of healing from their past trauma and repairing relationships. With the background of Elle's first love, Avery comes to terms with what happened to her own and learns to let go of the pain.
This was a highly emotional read - much more than I expected. Avery's story is particularly harrowing, and could have possibly come with a trigger warning for some readers
Unlike other reviewers, I enjoyed the character of Elle immensely - she's REAL. The character has had to deal with a great loss in her formative years, and the complex emotional rollercoaster of teenagerhood without a mother to anchor her and the feeling of betrayal for liking Avery is understandable. As a plot device, her presence also helps repair the relationship between Willow and Avery, and her parallel trauma helps Avery let go of the past.
It was a deeply emotional read. Don't pick this one up thinking it will be a fluffy beach read or a surface-skimming "minor secrets but happy ending" sort of book. This one needs tissues.
